When I first showed "Ramblin' Rose" to
Nat 'King' Cole, he wasn't too enthusiastic about it. He said he was going to California and that he'd record the song if he had time, almost like for the heck of it. So out West, he did three songs in a recording session, had 15 minutes left over and said, "Let's do that Ramblin' thing." He cut it right then, and when it was released, it became his biggest hit.
