There have been movies based on TV shows almost as long as there have been TV shows. Even in the 1950s, the first decades where large numbers of Americans owned a TV set, hit crime series like "Dragnet" and "The Lineup" made their way to theaters, alongside hit comedies like "Our Miss Brooks." Even TV movies got the fancy big-screen remake treatment, with the 1953 teleplay "Marty" not only getting a feature-length movie adaptation two years later, but also winning the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Actor, and the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
While some TV shows, even those popular enough to get their own movie, wind up forgotten, the big ones usually stick around in the public consciousness. Rod Serling's award-winning anthology series "The Twilight Zone" wasn't just a hit, it became something of an institution. It was an instantly recognizable brand, with...

The Twilight Zone Season 2 approaches rapidly like an ominous signpost up ahead, pointing to your next stop, CBS All Access, and now we know when and what to expect.
CBS All Access has released the trailer for the second season of The Twilight Zone, revealing its heretofore secret premiere date of Thursday, June 25, on which all 10-episodes will be available to stream; a strategy the diverges from Season 1 last year, which rolled out episode on a weekly basis. Check it out just below!
The trailer—a morose montage of mind-bending minutia set to the musical accompaniment of a haunting cover of Santo & Johnny’s 1959 classic, “Sleep Walk”—is appropriately rife with Rem-resembling insanity. While short on plot specifics, since the clip covers the entire season, we are introduced to the lineup of guest stars for this season’s anthology entries, with names like Billy Porter, Morena Baccarin, Jimmi Simpson, Jenna Elfman,...

When television viewers tuned in to CBS in October 1959 to watch a new series called The Twilight Zone, they heard Rod Serling describe the show’s namesake territory as a dimension as “vast as space and as timeless as infinity.” That sounds like good news for the high-profile CBS All Access revival of the brand (since it suggests boundless story terrain). But it’s also a reminder that Serling’s original franchise casts a colossal shadow that can easily swallow up anything that ventures too close.
Those opportunities and that challenge were undercurrent topics of The Twilight Zone panel on Sunday at Deadline’s Contenders Emmys at the Paramount Theater on the studio’s lot. What price fame? Kumail Nanjiani is about to find out when he steps onto the stage of “The Twilight Zone.” CBS All Access revealed the trailer for the first two episodes of its anthology series reboot on Monday.
In the trailer below, Nanjiani plays the titular standup comedian Samir Wassan who frequents a little comedy club called Eddies (as in eddies of water perhaps). He’s struggling to find his voice when a mysterious man played by Tracy Morgan appears and seems to offer him the answer to his dreams. Sounds too good to be true? Of course! When one fan says that Samir “totally killed it,” it’s a foreboding sign of what’s in store for Samir and his ambitions. This is “The Twilight Zone” after all where twists are commonplace and human frailty is spotlighted and found wanting.

Seth Rogen is stepping into The Twilight Zone. The star of Knocked Up and Neighbors will star in an upcoming episode of the CBS All Access revival of the classic sci-fi/fantasy franchise that became famous for its twist endings, eerie characters and unsettling theme song.
The Twilight Zone premieres on the subscription streaming site with two episodes on April 1, and more will follow beginning April 11, when weekly releases arrive every Thursday. No word yet on Rogen’s character nor any hints about the episode that he appears in. The April Fool’s Day launch of the series might suggest that one of the first episodes veers into humor; the original series had several light-hearted or comedic installments, among them the 1960 episode called “A World of His Own,” starring Keenan Wynn, and the 1963 episode “Cavender is Coming,” which featured a young Carol Burnett as well as a laugh track.

CBS All Access’ upcoming reboot of The Twilight Zone from Jordan Peele dropped its first spot during CBS’ broadcast of the Super Bowl.
In keeping with the anthology series’ signature unexpected twists, the ad was disguised as a program interruption. It begins with what seemingly is a return from commercial break to CBS’ broadcast of the Big Game, but the feed blacks out, and a “CBS Is Off The Air” message appears. Moments later, viewers are brought back to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is eerily empty except for one man, Peele (and several clones of him).
While the commercial does not feature any episodic footage, it gives a first glimpse at Peele stepping into Rod Serling’s role as host and narrator of The Twilight Zone. “When the truth is not the truth, what dimension are you even in?,” Peele says before before opening and walking through the iconic “Twilight Zone” door.

CBS All Access has been building up its slate of original programming, planning to launch 10 new shows next year. And arguably the buzziest one of them all is the Jordan Peele-led reboot of the classic science fiction series “The Twilight Zone.”
So how did CBS All Access, a small but growing player in the high-stakes streaming wars, land the Oscar-winning writer and director of “Get Out”? “We actually had heard that Jordan was such a fan of the original series that he credits it to some extent with his interest in becoming an artist,” Julie McNamara, executive VP, original content, CBS All Access, told TheWrap. “Having heard that, we pursued a conversation with him to see if that’s something he would be interested in.”
It won’t be the first, or even second time the series has been rebooted. There have been two prior revivals of the classic series.

Jordan Peele has found the latest cast member to enter the fifth dimension.
CBS announced Friday that Adam Scott will star in an upcoming episode of Peele’s reboot of the classic science fiction series for CBS All Access. And judging by the episode’s title — “Nightmare at 30,000 Feet” — it appears Scott will be starring in a reimagining of one of the most popular episodes of the original series’ run.
That episode, “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” starred William Shatner as Bob Wilson, the only passenger on an airline flight to notice a hideous creature lurking outside the plane. Richard Donner was the episode’s director, which was based on a short story of the same name by “I Am Legend” author Richard Matheson. It aired on Oct. 11, 1963.
