- He was active in the reknowned Glasgow Citizens Theatre in the mid 1980s appearing in such productions as The Last Days of Mankind, Juno and the Paycock, and several others.
- In the early 80s he was a student at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts more commonly known as RADA.
- One of his classmates was fellow actor Sean Bean.
- Played Jim Hawkins in "Treasure Island" for two years at the Mermaid Theater in London.
- Played a Messenger, Sir James Blunt, and was either a Guard, Monk, or Alderman in the 1984 production of Richard III performed at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, opened on 14th June 1984, transferred to the Barbican Theater, London, opened on 25th April 1985. James Newall took over the roles at the Barbican
- Played Gloucester in the RSC's 1984 Stratford-upon-Avon production of Henry V. He also was the understudy for The Dauphin. There is a rehearsal photo that includes Scott-Taylor. James Newall played Gloucester in 1985 when the production moved to the Barbican.
- From December 1974 to February 1975 he appeared as Jim in "Treasure Island " at the Mermaid Theatre London
