Brad Silberling's 1998 romance "City of Angels," a remake of Wim Wenders' indispensable 1987 film "Wings of Desire," stars Nicolas Cage as an immortal angel named Seth who gently breezes around Los Angeles, unseen by the people who live there. He appears to people only when they die, accompanying them to the afterworld. Observing humans as if they are an ineffable alien species, Seth becomes particularly enamored of an ambitious and compassionate young doctor named Maggie Rice. Seth finds that he might be experiencing love for the first time, and becomes visible to Dr. Rice, courting her and asking her deep questions about what it means to be human. Seth eventually chooses to transform into a human, sacrificing his immortality in order to be with his beloved.
What both Wenders and Silberling communicate with aplomb is how inhuman angels are. They live among humans but only interact when the humans die.

Andy Muschietti's recent superhero flick "The Flash" hoped to lure in audiences with a sprawling story that spans several parallel universes. It was the same approach taken by John Watts in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and Sam Raimi in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," in that all three films assembled multiple versions of certain superhero characters culled from various extant movie franchises. "The Flash" contains the Ben Affleck version of Batman as he appeared in Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," as well as the Michael Keaton version of Batman as he appeared in Tim Burton's 1989 film called merely "Batman." The Flash, he finds, can run so fast that he can travel into alternate timelines.
In the film's climactic final scenes, the Flash -- having time-traveled too much -- unwittingly causes the fabric of reality to rip, allowing cameo appearances from a dozen...

If you have not seen Andy Muschietti’s superhero extravaganza The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the time-stopping/time-hopping superhero, you might want to stop reading now because we’re about to spoil one of its major cameos.
Toward the end of the film, Barry Allen/The Flash uses Speed Force to travel back in time, giving us a glimpse of numerous DC multiverses. In one, we’re treated to Superman, played by Nicolas Cage, squaring off against a giant spider. This Cage-as-Superman sequence is a nod to...

Out of all the legendary unmade movies across film history, few have surpassed the famed status of Tim Burton's fabled "Superman Lives," which was supposed to star Nicolas Cage. The behind-the-scenes stories about the project's failed development have taken on a mythical quality of their own as one of the strangest "What if?" scenarios in Hollywood. These tales may have stirred up a chaotic idea of what pre-production was like, but Cage himself proposed a relatively simple reason as to why "Superman Lives" never saw the light of day. It may have been simply that Warner Bros. didn't want to take another chance with Burton.
"Superman Lives" was supposed to be a new start for the Man of Steel after the colossal failure of "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace." The project started with indie filmmaker and mega comic book fan Kevin Smith, who pitched his idea to infamous...

The troubled production of Tim Burton's unproduced feature film "Superman Lives" may be common knowledge by now. The story briefly, for those unfamiliar: following the success of Burton's "Batman" and "Batman Returns," Warner Bros. was to work with the director on a new Superman feature film, the first since the disappointing "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" in 1987. Many stories have circulated about that film's labored development, most of which can be summed up either by filmmaker Kevin Smith (who was hired to write a draft after his 1995 film "Mallrats"), or in Jon Schnepp's 2015 documentary film "The Death of 'Superman Lives': What Happened?" The film ultimately fell through, and another Superman feature film wouldn't be made until 2006.
While filmmakers were stumbling over their feet, trying to make whatever version of Superman they could, the plucky Kryptonian was quietly enjoying massive success on the small screen. In 1996, Alan Burnett...

I've never been much of a superhero movie fan, but one I'd have gladly queued up for back in the 1990s would have been Tim Burton directing Nicolas Cage in "Superman Lives." Along with Alejandro Jodorowsky's wildly ambitious non-starter "Dune," it must go down as one of the greatest what-ifs in cinema history, especially during that period of their respective careers.
"Mars Attacks!" aside, Burton was still regularly making great movies back then, with his unmistakable visual style and penchant for weirdos and outsiders like himself. Cage, on the other hand, was the maverick who made good with his Oscar-winning performance in "Leaving Las Vegas" before transforming himself into one of the decade's biggest action stars.
As for Superman, the time was right for a reinvention after the huge success of Burton's two "Batman" movies. The original "Superman" franchise, which had made audiences believe a man could fly since...

When Richard Donner and Warner Bros. released "Superman" in 1978, interconnected cinematic comic book universes were but a twinkle in a geek's eye. Donner and his screenwriters were keen on Superman and Superman alone, placing the character in a world where no other superheroes exist. This made for a certain amount of narrative clarity, as mainstream film audiences weren't yet trained to accept kid-friendly crossovers and team-ups. In the past, on the hit TV series "Batman," the title character did have a notable team-up episode wherein Bruce Wayne (Adam West) was revealed to be old school chums with Britt Reid (Van Williams), a.k.a. the Green Hornet. In film, team-ups and crossovers were, at that time, reserved for Godzilla and for Universal monsters. Oh, and also for when Zatoichi met Yojimbo.
That same ethos was at play 11 years later when Tim Burton made his high-profile "Batman" feature film, a darker...

In 1997, the Chicago Underground Film Festival held its fourth annual edition on August 13-17 at the Theatre Building at 1225 W. Belmont Avenue. One way the festival promoted itself that year was it published a four-page pull-out section in the Chicago-based political magazine Lumpen, vol. 6 no. 4.
These pages included the entire festival schedule, which the Underground Film Journal has re-created below. In addition, scans of the original Lumpen pages appear at the bottom of this article. This program schedule did not include director names for the most part, but the Journal has included names that we could find through research.
In the Theatre Building, Cuff screened on two screens simultaneously. One theater screened films shot exclusively on film; while the other theater screened films shot exclusively on video. In addition, a Closing Night event of director John Waters‘ live performance piece “Shock Value” took place in the film theater and was simulcast into the video theater.

There are countless journalists, entertainers, artists and faces in the entertainment and pop culture field. Many have been proclaimed or called themselves “the king of the geeks,” and in this particular industry, fame can come with the territory regardless of what you do in the business, but one of the greatest forces was Jon Schnepp.
If you aren’t familiar with the name, you definitely know some of his work. Evidence continues to mount that Sony and Ruben Fleischer’s Venom spinoff plans to make room for Peter Parker.
Four weeks ago, seasoned animator and director Jon Schnepp sent the Internet into a tizzy by claiming that a costume-less Tom Holland was spotted on set – as Peter Parker, not Spider-Man – thereby fuelling speculation that Venom shares some form of connective tissue with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite numerous reports to the contrary.
There’s still no definitive answer to the whole Tom Holland/Venom conundrum, but today, Reddit has unearthed what appears to be another clue in the ongoing mystery. It’s an IMDb listing, essentially, which ought to be treated with a heightened sense of caution given the Internet’s Movie Database can be edited by anyone with a credible account – not unlike Wikipedia and its reams of comprehensive articles.

Sony Picture’s Venom film will hit theaters later this year and just a week ago, the studio released the first pic from the film which stars Tom Hardy. This week a new rumor has broken out about the film and it involves Venom’s rival hero, Spider-Man.

Let the Rumors run wild, as once again speculation is a foot with the possibility of Spidey showing up in Sony’s Venom.
As far back as the conception of a Venom film fans have been skeptical. Mostly as it appeared Spider-Man would not appear in his arch nemesis’ film. The rumor originated from comic book movie scooper Jon Schnepp on a recent episode of Collider Movie Talk. While on the show he told said that Tom Holland's Spider-Man is going to make an appearance in Venom. He says:
"I'm gonna say it right here on this show, Spider-Man is gonna be in Venom. For the last couple months, we've been talking about Venom, we've been hearing about how Sony's keeping it all separated. Spider-Man's in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but every other character that's in the Spider-Man universe is separate."
This is just a big fat rumor right now, and I'd personally take it with a grain of salt. I hope it's true! But there's no official confirmation of this.

Ever since Sony announced their Tom Hardy-starring Venom movie, fans have been wondering what (if any) connection it would have to Spider-Man. While I suppose a completely disconnected film might work, the foundation of Venom’s character is his hatred for the webslinger – stemming from Peter Parker’s rejection of the symbiote after he realized it was trying to permanently bond with his body. Though both Sony and Marvel have denied any chance of Spidey swinging by for a cameo, a source is now saying that “he knows” Tom Holland is going to appear in Venom.
Said source is writer/director Jon Schnepp, who’s directed Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros and the feature-length documentary about the aborted 1990s Tim Burton Superman project, The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened? His opinion on this comes via Collider Video Head of Development Kristian Harloff, who today Tweeted the following:

Shots fired. The Hollywood Reporter is in the news again for the wrong reason. This time, the publication has been lambasted for its declaration that it’s the first to interview famed American film producer Jon Peters in over a decade. In case you’ve been frozen for the past 50 years, Peters was the producer behind the failed Superman Lives film, which was set to be directed by Tim Burton and star Nicolas Cage as Clark Kent/Superman. Naturally, and possibly thankfully, the film didn’t see the light of day, and we received Superman Returns instead.
The website’s claim didn’t sit well with Jon Schnepp, the creator of the documentary The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?, which was released in 2015 and featured an interview with Peters. Schnepp took to his verified Twitter account to call out The Hollywood Reporter for false information and said the...

Last night I had the opportunity to attend one of the first screenings of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War. I can't give you my full review now but I will say that it was a spectacular jaw-dropping film and in my opinion it's the best Marvel film yet! It also has some of the most insanely awesome fight sequences ever! Seriously, this movie is going to blow minds! Don't believe me? Well, here are several other reactions from the screening to back me up!
First things first: we finally have the perfect Spider-Man and the greatest Peter Parker.
— nived (@devincf) April 9, 2016
Next: Black Panther is incredible. Boseman plays him as both regal and full of rage. The most serious character in the film.
— nived (@devincf) April 9, 2016
The movie is bigger in scale than Winter Soldier but is so much more personal. The stakes are incredibly emotional.

The social media embargo on Captain America: Civil War lifted early this morning and Twitter has been flooded with reactions to the film. While the general consensus appears to be that it’s not perfect, the critics do seem to really like what Joe and Anthony Russo have delivered here, with tons of praise being heaped upon both Spider-Man and Black Panther in particular.
A few of the complaints are directed at the plot, the fact that there are too many characters in the film, and that once again, Marvel has failed to craft a compelling villain. That being said, though, most people agree that Captain America: Civil War is still a lot better than both Avengers: Age of Ultron and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Warner Bros. is shifting gears from the cavalcade of clips and TV spots for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice today to roll out the film’s first, complete featurette.

The last few days of 2015 are spent in reflection about the year that's just wrapping up and in anticipation of the year just ahead, at least for me, and since we had our ten best list last week, this week it's time for the runners-up, the fifteen films that also filled out our year. As always, I look at this list and I think it would make a perfectly spiffy top ten if that's how things had shaken out, which is to say that the only real purpose of any of these lists is to remind you of more of the experiences that were worth having in a theater. There are plenty of good films that aren't on either of my lists this year. That doesn't mean I didn't like them or they're not good. It just means that these films meant more to me for some reason. Netflix and Marvel’s first team up was a work of sheer awesomeness – dark and brooding with a real focus on developing three-dimensional characters, along with some nice tie-ins to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s so good it wouldn’t really be too much of a reach to say it’s the best thing Marvel’s ever made.

It looks like Luke Cage isn't the only main character from the four Netflix Marvel series in development that will show up in Jessica Jones. This news may be kind of obvious because we know that all four of the Netflix series Marvel is developing will be connected and set in Hell's Kitchen. But, until now, we didn't know who else might be involved.
According to Jon Schnepp of Collider Heroes, Daredevil will definitely be making an appearance in Jessica Jones. We knew one day they would eventually meet, but I wasn't sure if they would do it so soon, though. Schnepp says:
"You're definitely gonna see Matt Murdock in Jessica Jones. That's a fact. He's in it. I don't know how they interact, but he's in the series."
It's great to know that we'll get to see The Man Without Fear again before Daredevil Season 2 comes around next year.

We already knew that Rosario Dawson would be reprising her Daredevil role of Claire Temple in Marvel and Netflix’s upcoming Jessica Jones, but what about Matt Murdock? Will he be showing up as well? Apparently, the answer to that question is yes. He most definitely will.
Jon Schnepp of Collider Heroes recently revealed that Daredevil will make an appearance in Jessica Jones. He’s not sure how exactly he’ll factor into things, but Schnepp is certain that “he’s in the series.” Unfortunately, he wouldn’t say much more than that, but the confirmation alone is enough to get us excited.

While welcome, this news is certainly surprising, as it seemed that Marvel would be keeping each hero in their own show until the eventual Defenders team up. Plus, you’d think that they’d want to keep the focus entirely on Jessica during her series.

Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple has already been confirmed to make the jump from Daredevil to Jessica Jones, but what about the Man Without Fear himself? Even though both shows are set in Hell's Kitchen, most fans figured the second of Marvel and Netflix's shows would keep the focus on the titular heroine and save a face-to-face with Matt Murdock for a later date - but according to Jon Schnepp of Collider Heroes, we will indeed be seeing the blind vigilante make his presence felt on Jessica Jones. "You're definitely gonna see Matt Murdock in Jessica Jones," Schnepp stated during the hour-long YouTube show. "That's a fact. He's in it. I don't know how they interact, but he's in the series." So obviously no specifics on which episode he'll pop up in, or if we'll actually see him in costume, but some very interesting news nonetheless. You'll be able to...

Warner Bros.
Last week, The Death of Superman Lives director John Schnepp suggested George Miller was attached to direct Man of Steel 2. Further sources have since confirmed that Miller is in talks with DC over a prospective project, but it’s looking increasingly like it might not be a Superman sequel. Apparently Warner has Man of Steel 2 on “permanent hold“, which means it’s not a project they’re actively looking to produce in the immediate future.
Man of Steel 2 doesn’t exist on Warner’s current slate of DC releases, which carries all the way to 2020 with their reboot of Green Lantern. As a result, we maybe shouldn’t be super surprised to hear that Man of Steel 2 isn’t a priority. The 2013 original collected a sturdy $668 million worldwide, although the film proved divisive, and it’s been speculated Warner were actually hoping for a bigger return.

As sources agree George Miller is chatting to DC about a comic book movie, fresh doubts about a direct Man Of Steel 2 arise.
Warner's slate of DC movies currently stretches off five years into the future, with next year's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Suicide Squad to be followed by Wonder Woman, Justice League and The Flash - and that's just a part of Warner's grand plans for a sprawling cinematic universe.
But one movie is conspicuous by its absence on that long list. Where's Man Of Steel 2?
Late last week, Jon Schnepp - the filmmaker behind the recent documentary The Death Of Superman Lives - dropped a tantalising rumour: that Mad Max director George Miller is to direct Man Of Steel 2.
"George Miller is doing Man Of Steel 2," Schnepp said on an episode of Popcorn Talk. "I don't feel weird about breaking it.

Let's start by staying that this "news" comes firmly from the rumour mill, is confirmed by nobody, and may be based on a misunderstanding of the source. Nevertheless, you may find it hard to stifle a whistful "oooh" at the very notion that Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller might be directing the sequel to Man Of Steel: Henry Cavill's second solo outing as Kal-El after the team-up / face-off antics of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. The rumour stems from Jon Schnepp, the director of this year's documentary The Death Of Superman Lives. Appearing on a DC focused episode of chatcast Popcorn Talk, he casually offered up the following (at about the 55-minute mark):"George Miller is doing Man of Steel 2. I don’t feel weird about breaking it. Obviously Zack Snyder is doing Justice League one and two, James Wan is doing Aquaman.

Attention: we are in the midst of a nerdgasm. In news that's sure to thrill fans of the Superman movie franchise (and superhero movies in general), "Mad Max: Fury Road" director George Miller may be taking the helm of the next "Man of Steel" sequel. That's at least according to Jon Schnepp, director of the forthcoming documentary "The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?", which focuses on the ill-fated Nicolas Cage/Tim Burton Superman film that died in development hell back in the 1990s. How does Schnepp know this? He doesn't say, so let's treat this as a rumor until we get more details. As Comicbook.com notes, Miller was previously attached to helm DC's first attempt at a "Justice League" movie several years ago, before "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder took the helm.
