Back in 2019, Rebel Wilson starred in a meta romantic comedy called Isn’t It Romantic, which was released by Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema in the United States and Canada and received a Netflix streaming release throughout the rest of the world. Now Deadline reports that Isn’t It Romantic is getting an unexpected sort of follow-up – one that will dive into horror territory! This follow-up is called Isn’t It Scary.
New Line Cinema has hired April Prosser, who earned her first writing credit with the Netflix romantic comedy Look Both Ways, to write the screenplay for Isn’t It Scary. Look Both Ways had the following synopsis: On the eve of her college graduation, Natalie’s life diverges into parallel realities: one in which she becomes pregnant and remains in her hometown to raise her child and another in which she moves to LA to pursue her dream career.

New Line Cinema is developing a sequel to the 2019 romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic, but what’s interesting about the follow-up film is that it’s set to poke fun at… horror tropes?
Titled Isn’t It Scary, the upcoming sequel to the Rebel Wilson-starring comedy was announced by Deadline this week, with April Prosser (Look Both Ways) writing the script.
It’s interesting to note that Isn’t It Romantic, which poked fun at rom-com tropes, was directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, known to horror fans as the director of The Final Girls (2015). So maybe it’s not such a stretch that the franchise is dipping its toes into horror. That being said, Deadline’s report doesn’t mention whether or not Strauss-Schulson will return to direct.
In Isn’t It Romantic, which also starred Liam Hemsworth and Betty Gilpin, “A young woman disenchanted with love mysteriously finds herself trapped inside a romantic comedy.

Exclusive: New Line Cinema is in early development on Isn’t It Scary, a follow-up to its rom-com Isn’t It Romantic starring Rebel Wilson, multiple sources tell Deadline.
April Prosser (Look Both Ways) has been tapped to pen the script. We’re told Todd Garner will produce for Broken Road Productions, alongside frequent collaborators Gina Mathews and Grant Scharbo of Little Engine Entertainment, though these deals haven’t yet closed, as it’s early days here. No other talent attachments have been formalized at this time.
Playfully subverting and satirizing the conventions of the rom-com genre, Isn’t It Romantic grossed over $48 million worldwide upon its release via Warner Bros in 2019. Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, the film centers on Natalie (Wilson), an Australian architect living in New York City who is cynical about love and romance. Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has launched development on What Kids Want, a new feature scripted by the Like a Boss duo of Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly, sources tell Deadline.
The film follows up the high concept comedies What Women Want (2000), starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, and What Men Want (2019), starring Taraji P. Henson and Tracy Morgan, both of which were distributed by Paramount. While the former centered on a man suddenly gifted (or cursed?) with the ability to hear the thoughts of women, the latter reversed the equation. The new film will, of course, involve a look into the minds of children.
Todd Garner will produce for Broken Road Productions, alongside Gina Mathews and Grant Scharbo for Little Engine Entertainmemt. Matthews comes to the project after producing What Women Want, along with such rom-coms as 13 Going on 30, All My Life (alongside Garner) and Isn’t It Romantic?...

A group of screenwriters including Eli Roth, Graham Yost and Amy Chozick have issued an open letter decrying the Writers Guild of America’s silence on last week’s Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.
In the letter, posted to the blog site Medium, the screenwriters mention the statements already issued by other Hollywood guilds, including SAG-AFTRA and the directors’ guild.
“When it comes to taking a stand, the Writers Guild of America has always led by example,” the statement said. “When employers sought to exploit our work, the Guild bravely spoke up. When the BLM movement took flight, the Guild rightfully spoke up. When the #MeToo reckoning came and Hollywood needed to change, again the Guild spoke up. But when terrorists invaded Israel to murder, rape, and kidnap Jews… the Guild stayed silent. It remains the only major Hollywood union to do so.”

Meredith Stiehm will seek a second two-year term as president of WGA West in the fall election, and the other top officials of the guild will also seek reelection.
Justine Bateman, the writer-director and former “Family Ties” star, is running for a spot on the WGA West board. Bateman has become outspoken on the need for tight regulation of artificial intelligence.
The guild announced its preliminary list of nominees on Wednesday. Stiehm, who has been active in both the agency campaign and the current strike, will run against challenger Rich Talarico, a “Key and Peele” writer who has faulted the guild for not doing more to fight back against the release of free clips of the show on YouTube.
Michele Mulroney is running for reelection as vice president, and Betsy Thomas is seeking another term as secretary-treasurer. They will run against Isaac Gomez and Jeffrey Thompson, respectively.

The trailer for Rebel Wilson’s upcoming rom-com “Isn’t It Romantic” goes full meta, sending up every romantic-comedy cliché you can imagine — but still featuring a shirtless Liam Hemsworth in a towel.
Wilson stars as New York City architect Natalie, who works hard to get noticed at her job but is more likely to be asked to deliver coffee and bagels than to design the city’s next skyscraper.
A lifelong cynic when it comes to love, she has an encounter with a mugger that renders her unconscious, waking to discover that her life has suddenly become her worst nightmare — a PG-13 romantic comedy where she is the leading lady with a fabulous wardrobe, luxe apartment, a new gay best friend and a profanity-free vocabulary.

We all read Washington Irving’s short story, The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, in elementary school. It was one of those assignments where we had to make the obligatory shoebox diorama, displaying our favorite image from the text (I know I’m not the only one!). After all, what’s more cinematic than a headless maniac-ghost on a horse chasing you around in the woods?
When it came time for a Hollywood adaptation, Tim Burton was the obvious choice, as the story is perfectly amenable for being interpreted through a German expressionistic aesthetic. But that was thirteen years ago. Rather than developing another feature film adaptation, it looks like the next incarnation of the Headless Horsemen will be in a television format.

As networks and movie studios try more and more to take old brands and rework them, they’ve found it profitable to do prequels or sequels or, as the current flavor of word parsing, re-imaging. Which is what is happening with Dracula (though Universal, which will coproduce, does own Bram Stoker’s Dracula) as NBC has given a 10 episode order new version of classic tale. Fox has given a pilot commitment to an adaptation of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" from "Fringe" creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pilot is a modern-day supernatural thriller based on the 1820 short story following Ichabod Crane's efforts to bring peace to a troubled community called Sleepy Hollow.
Another "Sleepy Hollow" project is circulating in Hollywood as well. "Missing" writers Grant Scharbo and Patrick Macmanus are in talks with The CW to bring their take on "Sleepy Hollow" to TV, Deadline exclusively revealed. Scharbo and Mcmanus' version offers a modern take on the classic horror tale by making Cranean FBI agent who travels to the titular town to check out a beheading.
Similar to this "Sleepy Hollow" situation was last development season when ABC and The CW had "Beauty and the Beast" dramas -- both went to pilot but only The CW's made it to series.

Washington Irving’s Ichabod Crane, the her of his “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, has never been more popular. The almost 200-year old story is getting a new lease on life nowadays, with not one but two TV series based on the character currently gestating around Hollywood. And both appears to be contemporary takes on the early 19th century tale. One version of the story would re-imagined Crane as an FBI agent, and is currently being pursued by the CW network based on an idea developed by writers Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo (ABC’s “Missing” with Ashley Judd). The show would find FBI agent Crane arriving at the town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a mysterious beheading and, we presume, associated supernatural shenanigans. The show is being called a “boundary-pushing horror story”. Which I guess is better than a “totally inside the envelope, and not at all challenging” horror story.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has been remade before, but now it’s getting an update.
The latest project from Missing writers Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo aims to update the classic story as the two writers plan to develop it into a pilot that will hopefully be picked up by The CW. The network is known best for leading the way in teen drama television, so I’m guessing the horror level will be more on par with Supernatural than Tales From The Crypt.
This contemporary take will cast Ichabod Crane as a swarthy, gun-toting FBI agent. Crane finds himself in the small town of Sleepy Hollow as part of the investigation into a beheading.
Sleepy Hollow is not attached to any studio yet, but producers Gina Matthews (Missing), Aaron Berger and Carina Schulze have pitched the pilot to The CW already.

Now don’t lose your head over this, but a drama series (or two!) based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow may soon find its way to network TV.
Two concepts, both called Sleepy Hollow, are circulating in Hollywood as development season begins, per our sister site Deadline.com. The first, from Missing writers Grant Scharbo and Patrick Macmanus, is in talks with The CW. That one offers a modern view of Washington Irving’s classic horror tale by making protagonist Ichabod Crane into an FBI agent who travels to the titular town to check out a beheading.

Armageddon, Deep Impact. Volcano, Dante's Peak. Two projects with the same kind of idea. Happens all the time. Well, you can now add a television series based on Sleepy Hollow to that ever growing list!
According to Deadline, The CW is in talks for "Sleepy Hollow", a drama series project from Missing writers Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo and producers Gina Matthews of Little Engine Prods (Missing) and Aaron Berger and Carina Schulze of Chatrone Prods.
The project, described as a boundary-pushing horror story for television, is a contemporary take on the classic tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, in which FBI Agent Ichabod Crane arrives in Sleepy Hollow to investigate a mysterious beheading. "Sleepy Hollow" is not set up at a studio yet.
This comes hot on the heels of the proposed Fox TV "Sleepy Hollow" series with Len Wiseman. Expect The Asylum to come up with a series...

There’s a certain genre of television that I’m not very friendly with, and it’s something I should confess before anyone goes too far in this review. It’s a genre that is dominated by shows with initials as their names these days, and they are geared actually toward people somewhere around my age. I find them awful in general, stunted by broken, goofy dialog that often seems to be written by people who have never heard people speak in real life, and pushed along by action scenes that are curiously hokey, but with delusions of grandeur.
If such shows are your bag, and you can deal with Ashley Judd as an ex-cia badass (but, I repeat myself), then I’ve got a show for you.
Veering off from most shows in this genre, Missing is another installment of the long arc vs. truly episodic shows, and follows...

Diane Haithman is contributing to Deadline’s TCA coverage. At first glance the globe-hopping series “Missing,” which stars Ashley Judd as a former CIA operative in search of her missing son, looks like it would have a sky-high budget. Each of the episodes was shot on location in a different European city. But after today’s TCA panel on the show, executive producer Gina Matthews and writer/executive producer Grant Scharbo told Deadline the show’s budget is “in the middle-range” of the budgets of all the network’s hour dramas. In fact Scharbo said the show could be shot more cheaply abroad than in Los Angeles. And because of the international locations, the show has already been sold in various international markets. Foreign characters will speak in their native tongues, with subtitles. ABC ordered the 10 completed episodes without a pilot. Matthews said that kept the producers from burning through...

ABC has put in development Anti-Mafia Squad, a drama based on the 2009 Italian series Squadra Antimafia – Palermo Oggi. David Hollander (The Cleaner) will write the script and executive produce with the original series’ distributor Mediaset, Little Engine’s Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo and Fluent Media’s Raul Mateu. ABC Studios is producing. The original series, which wrapped its third season in June, is set in today’s Palermo, caught in a war between mafia families for the leadership of Cosa Nostra after the arrest of the last godfather. It centers on two women: deputy chief of police Claudia Mares, who joins a special anti-mafia squad, and young Rosy Abate, a member of one of the oldest criminal clans, who returns to Palermo after a long stay in the U.S. ABC, ABC Studios, Matthews, Scharbo, Mateu and Mediaset originally tried to adapt the ICM-repped format last season, but the...

ABC has a slew of new shows coming, many of which need a lot of luck if they're going to last more than a handful of episodes. The schedule has been released, so let's take a lot at what's coming.
Oddly enough, as part of the new announcement, ABC has solidified the return of several more shows, including Happy Endings, despite the fact that two other networks have shows on their slate with cast members from the show. That should be interesting. Of course, it works for me, because I'm a fan.
In other news, Desperate Housewives will not die. Are you kidding me with this show still being on?
New Series - “Apartment 23,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Good Christian Belles,” “Last Man Standing,” “Man Up,” “Missing,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Pan Am,” “Revenge,” “The River,” “Scandal,” “Suburgatory” and “Work It” Join the Lineup

NBC and Fox have both unleashed their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. I’m excited to see Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. Most of the new shows they have line-up don’t really interest me, but there are a few that have caught my eye. PanAm is another 1960’s based TV show that will go against AMC’s Mad Men and NBC’s The Playboy Club. There’s a show called Revenge that sounds really interesting, but the new series I’m most excited about is is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.
Here is ABC’s full schedule along with a description of all of their shows. Go through them below and let us know what TV series you’re most excited about seeing.

Ashley Judd and Jenna Elfman who had been in negotiations to topline ABC's action drama series Missing and comedy pilot Bad Mom, respectively, have now closed their deals for the projects. Missing, which eyes an early fall launch, centers on Becca Winstone (Judd), a devoted single mom who, after her 18-year-old son disappears in Italy, takes it upon herself to travel to Europe and track him down. It soon becomes clear that Winstone is a former CIA agent who will stop at nothing to bring her son home alive. Steve Shill is on board to direct multiple episodes of the series, including the opener. He will also executive produce with writer Poirier, Grant Scharbo and Gina Matthews. Production is scheduled to begin late next month in Rome, Vienna and Prague. Bad Mom, from ABC Studios and Kapital Entertainment, centers on Julia (Elfman), a mom whose two kids had been raised largely by her mom.

In her first regular TV series gig, Ashley Judd is close to a deal to topline ABC's action series Missing (aka Safe aka Hall of Mirrors). The project, from feature writer Greg Poirier, was once slated for summer but now eyes a fall launch, with early September as a possibility. Missing, whose premise somewhat echoes the Liam Neeson starrer Taken, centers on Becca Winstone (Judd), a devoted single mom who, after her 18-year-old son disappears in Italy where he'd been working on architecture fellowship, takes it upon herself to travel to Europe and track him down. It soon becomes clear that Winstone is a former CIA agent who will stop at nothing to bring her son home alive.
