Canada - it’s my home and native land, and it belongs to Cathy’s Curse (1977) as well; although for decades it went from obscurity to discount box set before being rescued and restored. Now the film can be seen - after years of mud caked transfers - for what it really is: A truly bizarre attempt at setting The Exorcist/The Omen inside of an artsy marital drama, full of yelling, strange behaviour, and temper tantrums. And that’s just the grownups. In other words, Cathy's Curse is essential viewing for those who need a little Sturm und Drang und Flying Dolls in their lives. You know who you are.
A French co-production, Cathy’s Curse had regional openings all across Canada in the fall, and opened in France late summer. The critics were nothing more than dismissive with this low budget shocker, and it went through the usual journey: drive-ins,...

"I sent mommy to the madhouse. I scared the butler to death. I threw Nanny out the window. Now three of us are left..." The old family home houses a horrific (and possessive) spirit in Cathy's Curse, and Severin Films has now announced the special features for their upcoming Blu-ray release of the 1977 fright film.
On April 11th, Severin Films will unleash Cathy's Curse on Blu-ray with a fresh 2K remaster and a substantial list of bonus features that you can check out below (via Blu ray.com). Directed by Eddy Matalon, Cathy's Curse stars Alan Scarfe, Beverly Murray, and Randi Allen.
Synopsis (via Blu-ray.com): After a terrible car accident twenty years ago killed his father and sister, a man returns to his family home with his wife and daughter. The daughter takes up residence in her deceased aunt's room and, after finding some of her possessions, becomes possessed by her spirit.

Van Damme. Times Two. They`re damn quick. Damn cool. Damn hot.
Double the fun. And Double…. The Van Damage!
With the above stated words, audiences in 1991 were introduced to Double Impact, one of my personal favorite, if not my very favorite, Jean-Claude Van Damme film. Just fresh from the success of Bloodsport (1988), Kickboxer (1989), Lionheart (1990) and Death Warrant (1990) Double Impact was the next smash hit Van Damme had at the box office, making him a household name in the early 1990s. With split screen effects Van Damme is able to portray two roles; the role of twin brothers Chad and Alex.

While Jean-Claude Van Damme now prefers to make narcissistic reality TV shows I had the chance to revisit one of his earlier works this week as Double Impact returns to DVD on 19th September. Made in 1991, Double Impact marked Van Damme’s first foray into the acting challenge of the dual role, here playing twin brothers separated at birth and distinguished by slightly different hairstyles.
Van Damme plays Chad and Alex Wagner who are separated as infants when their parents are brutally murdered by members of a Hong Kong criminal cartel. 25 years later, Chad has moved to California via Paris, by way of explanation for his unusual accent, to become a karate teacher and Alex, who stayed in Hong Kong, has become involved in the criminal underworld. The pair are reunited in Hong Kong by the family bodyguard Frank (Geoffrey Lewis – Every Which Way But Loose) with a plan to...
