Amy Adams has been tapped to star in At the Sea, a new drama from Kornel Mundruczó and Kata Wéber — the director and writer of such acclaimed films as Pieces of a Woman and White God — as well as Hammerstone Studios, Ryder Picture Company and Ar Content.
Set to enter production in Boston in June, the film follows the life of Laura (Adams) after a long rehabilitation, as she returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune and, most importantly, identity.
Pic will be produced by Alexander Rodnyansky of Ar Content, Stuart Manashil, Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett for Ryder Picture Company, Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici and Jon Oakes, and Viktória Petrányi and Mundruczó. Exec producers are Paul J. Diaz, Maria Breese of 3:33 Creative, Lee Broda of Lb Entertainment, Jeff Rice of Jeff Rice Films, and Michael Kupisk. Zsofi Oblath and Rachel Rubin will co-produce.
Ar Content, Paul J. Diaz, and Hammerstone Studios will finance the film, with WME Independent to rep domestic rights, Capstone Pictures handling international, and Sacker Law to oversee production legal.
A six-time Academy Award nominee, Adams most recently wrapped production on 3000 Pictures’ Klara and the Sun, the next film from Oscar winner Taika Waititi, which adapts the dystopian sci-fi story from Kazuo Ishiguro. Up next, she’ll be seen starring in Searchlight Pictures’ Nightbitch from filmmaker Marielle Heller, a dark comedy she also produced through her production company Bond Group Entertainment that hits theaters December 6.
A married director-writer pair out of Hungary, Mundruczó and Wéber are perhaps best known for their 2020 pregnancy drama Pieces of a Woman, which premiered in Venice and brought star Vanessa Kirby her first Oscar nomination following its release on Netflix. Prior to that, the duo collaborated on White God, which won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes in 2014; Jupiter’s Moon, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or; and Evolution, which also played the French festival. Separately, Mundruczó directed the pilot of the Apple TV+ limited series, The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.
Most recently, Hammerstone produced the action thriller Boy Kills World starring Bill Skarsgård, which will release wide on April 26, and the horror-thriller Don’t Move, starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock, for Netflix.
Ryder Picture Company has produced acclaimed titles like Dumb Money and Bruiser.
Ar Content is known for Cannes prize winners like 2019’s Beanpole, from filmmaker Kantemir Balagov, and 2021’s Unclenching the Fists from Kira Kovalenko.
Adams is represented by WME, Linden Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Mundruczó and Wéber are repped by United Agents and Novo.

Christopher Nolan’s movie Memento. (Photo Credit – Instagram/IMDb)
In 2000, Christopher Nolan’s Mememto blew everyone away. The psychological thriller stars Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jorja Fox, and Joe Pantoliano. It’s the story of a man named Leonardo, who has short-term memory loss and must seek revenge for his wife’s death. Due to his forgettable memory, Leonardo had to rely only on photographs. The film is based on Christopher’s brother Jonathan Nolan’s short story, Memento Mori.
It has been 24 years since Memento was released, and Nolan fans consider it one of his best directorials. The movie has twists and turns and moments that will startle you often. But did you know that when the movie was screened initially, the response was not that great? Jonathan Nolan made this shocking revelation.

For some artists, the duties and demands of awards attention can be a lifelong dream come true. For others, it’s a slog. Or worse. Christopher Nolan may fall in the latter category, based on what his Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. said from the stage on Thursday night in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival’s opening night gala.
“During this wildly social season, in the wake of resounding global reaction to the Oppenheimer phenomenon, Chris and I shared a vulnerable moment of existential query. He placed his hand on my shoulder, got a little misty and whispered, ‘I’m beginning to wonder, is it possible: Death by schmoozing?’ Adulation, congratulations, celebration, being thanked and honored is as desirable to him as being tarred, feathered and pilloried.”
If that’s true, Nolan didn’t show it nor did he flinch during his time inside the DeJoria Center in nearby Kamas,...

“It’s a quarter of a century later, and I’m still f*cking being discovered by Sundance,” beamed Christopher Nolan tonight at the Sundance Film Festival Opening Night Gala as he received the inaugural Trailblazer award.
“At what point do I move onto bigger things?” the acclaimed Oppenheimer filmmaker cracked.
The wrap-up remark was made as Nolan told the story about how Comcast Universal boss Brian Roberts shared the filmmaker and his producer wife Emma Thomas post Oppenheimer‘s immediate greenlight how he caught their movie Memento by chance at Sundance during a ski trip back in 2001 with the father and the impact it had on him.
Nolan says that Thomas and he were “caught in a moment of reflection.”

Dumb Money producer Aaron Ryder talked Saturday about why he wanted to bring to screen the story of GameStop’s short squeeze of 2021, a financial fluke that has gone down in history as a triumph for the little guy against the behemoths of Wall Street.
Speaking at Deadline’s Contenders Film Los Angeles event, Ryder revealed he had been inspired to make the film after tirelessly following the story in real time during lockdown.
“I went deep on it, trying to understand what the short was and to educate myself,” he told moderator Anthony D’Alessandro. “I got a call from MGM [where he has a production deal], who said, ‘We think there’s a movie here.’
“What we needed was a piece of IP. There was a lot of competition. I knew we had to be first [to option Ben Mezrich’s book The Antisocial Network]. Luckily, we were, and our next task was finding the right people...

Deadpool director Tim Miller is used to bringing strange characters to life on the silver screen. Still, this time, he’s wrangling an extensive cast for an adaptation of Alien Legion, a science-fiction comic book series created by Carl Potts, Alan Zelenetz, and Frank Cirocco. Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights to Alien Legion, which Potts refers to as The Foreign Legion in space or The Dirty Dozen meets Aliens.
Published under Marvel Comics‘ Epic Comics imprint in 1983, Alien Legion revolves around Torie Montroc, the young son of an interstellar businessman who, rather than pick up the corporate torch, enrolls as a grunt in the Alien Legion, aligning himself with some of the galaxy’s most despicable degenerates.

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group has acquired “Alien Legion,” a science-fiction comic-book series created by Carl Potts, Alan Zelenetz, and Frank Cirocco, with “Deadpool” director Tim Miller attached to direct, TheWrap has learned.
The studio picked up the IP with an eye towards building their own blockbuster space opera franchise. “Alien Legion” is being billed as “The Foreign Legion in space” or “’The Dirty Dozen’ meet ‘Aliens,’” according to creator Carl Potts, a long time Marvel comics Editor in Chief and writer.
The comic was part of Marvel Comics’ Epic Comics imprint in 1983 and centers on Torie Montroc, the young son of a mega rich interstellar business man who, rather than join the family business, enrolls in the Alien Legion at the lowest rank, joining some of the most vile and degenerate beings in the galaxy.

Warner Bros. is building its own galaxy that is far, far away.
The studio has picked up the rights to Alien Legion, a star-spanning, sci-fi comic initially published by Marvel Comics, with the aim of building a homegrown space opera franchise.
Tim Miller, who directed the original Deadpool as well as Terminator: Dark Fate, is attached to direct.
Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films, the banner whose credits include Transformers and Real Steel, will produce along with Aaron Ryder.
Legion was co-created by Carl Potts, a former editor and writer at Marvel, and was introduced as part of the publisher’s creator-owned imprint, Epic Comics, in 1983. When Summit Entertainment brought Christopher Nolan’s Memento to the American Film Market in 2000, the British- born director was still a relative unknown. The screenplay he wrote for his second feature proved puzzling as it wove together two timelines, one in reverse chronological order, to tell the story of a man with short- term memory loss trying to piece together the truth behind his wife’s murder.
But producer Aaron Ryder, calling it “perhaps the most innovative script I had ever seen,” brought it to Newmarket Films, which agreed to finance the project on a budget that was variously reported as $4.5 million to $9 million. When Newmarket failed to interest an American distributor, the company decided to release it itself domestically, with Summit coming aboard to handle international sales.

In January 2021, Dumb Money producer Aaron Ryder was in the midst of a mandatory two-week quarantine in Montreal, and to pass the time, he began to track the ever-evolving situation with GameStop’s stock. The struggling video game retailer became the apple of the internet’s eye, as Redditors on the WallStreetBets subreddit and YouTube investors like Keith Gill’s Roaring Kitty (portrayed by Paul Dano in Dumb Money) were leading the Gme stock short squeeze in an effort to give hedge fund short sellers a taste of their own medicine.
Around the same time, Ryder’s company, Ryder Picture Company, had just launched and entered into a first-look deal with MGM, and as all this drama was still unfolding with GameStop’s soaring stock, the Oscar nominee became a part of the deal for author Ben Mezrich’s GameStop-related book proposal that would later become The Antisocial Network. Dumb Money is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company. In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.
Dumb Money also stars Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley and Seth Rogen. Directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo, based on the book “The Antisocial Network” by Ben Mezrich.

Aaron Ryder was in a hurry. He knew other producers were chasing the GameStop story that was flooding headlines in 2021, as day traders ran up the stock for the brick-mortar store that had been shorted by several hedge funds. One single investor, Keith Gill (Paul Dano) believed the stock was undervalued and plowed his life savings into it. “You don’t even own a house!” a frustrated friend tells him in “Dumb Money” the movie adapted by former investigative reporters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo from Ben Mezrich’s book “The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to Its Knees,” with Craig Gillespie at the helm.

Sony’s Dumb Money fired off its Toronto Film Festival world premiere Friday night, and while the mega ensemble cast of Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Pete Davidson, Shailene Woodley and more couldn’t be there due to the actors strike, the pic’s director Craig Gillespie, producers Teddy Schwarzman and Aaron Ryder and writers/executive producers Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum were.

There’s nothing stupid about the Toronto Film Festival response to Dumb Money.
The audience at Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall laughed loud and clapped louder at the world premiere of I, Tonya and Cruella director Craig Gillespie’s new comedy about the 2021 GameStop stock squeeze.
Paul Dano stars as Keith Gill, the real-life YouTuber who took on billionaire hedge fund managers and won. Alongside Dano, Pete Davidson stars as Keith’s brother and Shailene Woodley as his wife. Sony Pictures’ “Dumb Money” could be the most frightening horror movie this year, and the Oscars would be smart to embrace it. From the critically acclaimed director Craig Gillespie, his smart and at times tragic look at the GameStop stock story of 2021 entertained the audiences of the Toronto Film Festival on Friday night where it held its world premiere.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey introduced the film and Gillespie brought up his fellow producers Aaron Ryder and Teddy Schwarzman, along with EPs and writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who sported the film’s title on each of their purses.

Updated: Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money, which is making its Toronto Film Festival world premiere this weekend, is still on course for a three-step platform release September 15 (in LA & NYC) and September 22, but will now break wide on September 29 instead of October 6.
The comedy also sidesteps Universal’s The Exorcist: The Believer.
Its the latest movie to step out of the way of the AMC-distributed concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which as of last week clocked more than $37 million from the three big theater circuits — AMC, Regal and Cinemark — in its first 24 hours of presales ahead of its October 13 release. It will play October 13-15, 19-22, 26-29 and October 31 and November 2-5 at AMC, Regal, Cinemark in Dolby and Imax.
Apple Original Films/Paramount’s Killers of the Flower Moon is going wide now on Oct. 20, as we reported previously; a change-up from the pic’s original plans below.

Paul Dano has Wall Street melting down in the first trailer for Dumb Money, the upcoming Sony dramedy about a real-life YouTuber who took on billionaire hedge fund managers with a short squeeze, or countering bearish trades, of GameStop’s stock.
“You got rich dudes pissing in their pants right now,” Dano’s character, Keith Gill, is told in the trailer. The David vs. Goliath tale has Gill and fellow retail traders turning GameStop, the brick-and-mortar video game store, into a hot stock after big hedge funds took heavy short positions in the company’s shares, betting their price would continue to fall.
As major Wall Street funds fight back, the Dumb Money trailer centers on Gill in the middle of an Internet stock trading frenzy. With his life savings invested in the GameStop stock and on the line, his social media posts on on Reddit’s r/wallstreetbets forum online start blowing up,...

Director Craig Gillespie is taking audiences back to 2021 with the first trailer for his latest film, “Dumb Money.” The film, according to the official synopsis, “is the ultimate David vs.
As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.”
Dano, coming off his role in Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans” last year, is at the center of the trailer.

When director Damian Szifron’s serial killer thriller To Catch a Killer was first announced (under the title Misanthrope), Glen Basner – CEO of financier FilmNation Entertainment – said he believed the project could turn out to be “a decade defining film”. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t make much of an impact when it reached theatres in late April. But maybe it will reach its audience when it’s available on home video. Distributor Vertical Entertainment has now announced that To Catch a Killer will be receiving a VOD release later this month. It will be available on all On Demand platforms as of May 16th.
The film stars Shailene Woodley (Divergent), Ben Mendelsohn (Captain Marvel), and Jovan Adepo (the Watchmen TV series).
Directed by Szifron from a script he wrote with Jonathan Wakeham, To Catch a Killer has the following synopsis: A modern-day Clarice Starling, Eleanor (Shailene Woodley) is a young...

Three weeks ago, we saw a trailer for the serial killer thriller To Catch a Killer, which is set to receive a theatrical release on April 21st. Now a poster for the film has arrived online, and you can take a look at that at the bottom of this article.
To Catch a Killer is a project we first heard about way back in May of 2019, which is when Shailene Woodley (Divergent) signed on to star in and produce the film. More than a year and a half later, Ben Mendelsohn (Captain Marvel) and Jovan Adepo (the Watchmen TV series) were cast alongside Woodley. That was right before production began on the film that was then known as Misanthrope. Two more years down the line, it’s finally ready to make its way out into the world.

Sony Pictures has slated “Dumb Money” for theatrical release on October 20, 2023. The film, directed by Craig Gillespie, tells the true story of a Wall Street short squeeze that momentarily turned GameStop stock into the hottest investment in town.
The squeeze had initially been triggered by users of the subreddit r/wallsteetbets, an online forum, although some hedge funds also participated. The momentary skyrocketing of the video game store’s per-share value, from $17.25 in early January of 2021 to $500 just weeks later, turned the saga into a skewed David vs. Goliath story. The narrative of amateur traders and “fans” of the company driving up its stock price as a form of fandom/social protest against the stereotypical investor class proved irresistible as a juicy media story.

Gamestop brought more than power to the players when it caused a financial catastrophe on Wall Street in 2021. At the time, Gamestop shares soared to unfathomable heights, making millionaires out of Redditors and costing hedge funds millions as traders scrambled to contain the situation. The impossible event taught Wall Street a valuable lesson about what happens when traders go against their masters, and now Sony is making a Gamestop movie to preserve the story.
According to Deadline, Vincent D’Onofrio, Anthony Ramos, and Dane DeHaan will join Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, and Pete Davidson in the dramedy presentation. The concept is based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Antisocial Network, with a script by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum.
Presented as a David-vs.-Goliath story, Dumb Money investigates how a group of private investors and internet trolls on a subreddit called WallStreetBets hoodwinked one of the most formidable hedge funds on Wall Street.

“Avatar” star Sigourney Weaver revealed some insight about James Cameron’s highly anticipated “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which premieres Dec. 16.
