Sony has work to do on PlayStation backwards compatibility - an area it's lagging behind Xbox One...
Blood soaks the walls of the fog-filled entrance to a labyrinthine alley.
Bravely, Harry continues into the darkness. A siren wails hauntingly from some unknown place. There is something terribly disconcerting about all this. Perhaps he should go back? And then, in the blackness, he sees a gurney. A bloody sheet covers what can only be a body lying beneath it. And yet, Harry goes on. More blood is splattered on the concrete, even more drips from the chain link fence. And then he comes across it – a horrifying decomposing corpse hangs from the fence in front of him. And what are those figures coming towards him out of the gloom?
Things are looking very bad in the town of Silent Hill.
It is one of the most memorable moments in video game history.

Jim Ryan, Sony's global sales chief, is claiming that the PS4 has sold three times more in Europe than the Xbox One. In an interview with Time, Ryan also mentions that over 1 million Psvr units have been sold since its launch in October 2016, and that 1 in every 5 PS4's sold lately is a PS4 Pro...read more on GameTyrant

Sales of the PlayStation Vr hardware are “in line” with internal expectations, according to Sony CFO Kenichiro Yoshida.
Word comes by way of the company’s recent earnings briefing, which also revealed strong PS4 sales and a 5.2 percent increase in sales to $5.3 billion for the fiscal period ending December 31st. That figure accounts for the Game & Network Services division, given Sony’s overall financial results recorded a 54 percent dip in profit over the previous year.
Elsewhere in the briefing, Yoshida-san noted that sales-wise, the PS4 Pro “is running as we had expected, as we assumed, but Pro maybe is doing more than we anticipated.” The executive stopped short of disclosing official numbers, but last we checked in on total PS4 sales, the worldwide cume had surpassed 53 million as of January 1st, 2017.

It’s Paris Games Week. Sony shunned Gamescom earlier in the year due to its proximity to E3, giving Microsoft the chance to fire off a few shots in the console war without reply. Now the roles are reversed and Sony gets to stand on the stage and give a conference knowing that Microsoft won’t have much of a presence to counter with. With Gamescom traditionally being a pretty big deal for Sony, this likely won’t just be a throwaway show. Expect an E3-style conference with a more European slant; less dollars and cents, and probably a few slightly more out there ideas.
Sony shows have been interesting lately since, in stark contrast to Microsoft, we have very little idea what any of their first and second party studios are actually doing. It’s been very quiet on that front from Sony, so there could very well...

For generations now, the PlayStation brand has enjoyed greater success in Europe relative to its stance on North America – a dominance that stems from the PS2 era. It’s a trend that has evidently continued with PlayStation 4, after Scee President Jim Ryan revealed in an interview with VG247 that the current-gen hardware holds “70-90%” of the market share in continental Europe.
According to Ryan, the PS4 enjoys market leadership all across the continent, but it is the mainland where the console enjoys the greater margin over its closest competitor.
“We have a very significant market leadership. Well, we have market leadership in every country in Europe, and have very significant market leadership in continental Europe. Extremely significant. I don’t think market-share’s any less than 70%, and frequently greater than 90% in continental Europe.”

Now that the video game industry has had time to marinate on the show-stopping announcement that, after 18 long years, Final Fantasy VII would be making a triumphant comeback, fans of Square’s adorned Jrpg have begun to question the finer details. For one, how long will the HD re-release be exclusive to PlayStation 4? Can it possibly meet expectations? And, will the final product include Cloud’s notorious cross-dressing scene in ultra-realistic graphics?
The latter of these queries is naturally still up for question, but PlayStation Europe Executive Jim Ryan did shed some light on the duration of the exclusivity deal with Sony’s current-gen hardware in an interview with GameSpot. In particular, Ryan mentions Microsoft’s partnership with Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is something that the company has kept largely under wraps up until this point. Aside from sequels to Gears of War and Halo, Microsoft’s rabbit-out-of-the-hat moment during its E3 press conference on Monday was undeniably the announcement that backwards compatibility will be introduced for Xbox One in the near future, opening up “hundreds” of existing Xbox 360 games across physical and digital. As such, it’s understandable that PlayStation fans have been wondering whether the feature would migrate over onto PlayStation 4? In short: not a hope.
In a recent interview with McV UK, Sony’s PlayStation Europe Boss Jim Ryan noted that the platform holder has zero intention of building an emulator for the current-gen hardware that would open up its back catalogue of software. Hardly surprising, especially when you consider the push towards an all-digital future with the subscription-based PlayStation Now.

Following yesterday’s online debacle, Sony has moved quickly to assure fans that the free PlayStation Plus Edition of DriveClub is still in the works, though the company had no information to share about a release window at this time.
The trial version of Evolution Studio’s über-realistic simulator has been Awol since the fully-fledged title debuted on PlayStation 4 back in October of last year, and recent comments made by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Jim Ryan suggested that the publisher was no longer committed to releasing the Ps Plus edition at all. Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to be the case, according to a Sony spokesperson who reached out to Eurogamer.
“We are continually working on improving the server capacity to enable us to launch the Ps Plus Edition as quickly as possible. Although currently we do not have an update regarding the timing for the launch.”

Though it was initially slated to arrive day and date with the fully-fledged racing simulator, the free PlayStation Plus edition of Evolution Studios’ beleaguered DriveClub has been postponed indefinitely in light of server trouble. At the time, it seemed as though the trial would lumber onto the Psn’s starting line-up before long, but a recent statement by Sony’s PlayStation Europe President Jim Ryan has hinted that it’s now a question of if, rather than when for the publisher.
This comes just a couple of weeks after developer Evolution stated that there was still a significant amount of work to be done before the Ps Plus edition saw the light of day. However, Ryan’s recent statement does cast some doubt over the studio’s progress with the long-gestating trial. In keeping with Polyphony Digital’s promised Holiday 2013 release window, Sony Europe CEO Jim Ryan announced today during Sony’s Gamescom press conference that Gran Turismo 6 will launch on December 6, 2013 for the PlayStation 3.
The platform holder also revealed a unique partnership with several automotive manufacturers, where design teams from Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Bertone, Gm Design, Honda, Infiniti, Italdesign Giugiaro, Jordan Brand, Mercedes-Benz, Nike, Nissan, Peugeot, Srt(Chrysler), Volkswagen and Zagato will create “concept models” that will be recreated as working cars for Gran Turismo 6. Throughout 2014 these cars will then be released as “gifted downloadable content” to GT6 owners via online updates.
Sony also fully detailed all of Gran Turismo 6‘s pre-order bonuses. The standard 4-Car pre-order pack that was originally announced last June has been upgraded to a 5-Car pack — with the addition of an Srt Viper Gts. On top of that, each of the...

Following recent reductions at retail outlets such as Best Buy and Target, Sony have confirmed that the PlayStation Vita will be reduced to $199/€199 effective tomorrow. Taking to the stage at their conference at Gamescom, the company’s European CEO Jim Ryan also announced that the system’s proprietary memory cards will see a “significant reduction” in the near future, too.
Having first rolled out the reduction in Japan back in February, the initial price cut witnessed a groundswell of support for the Vita in this particular market; one which even saw it outselling Nintendo’s 3Ds in March, 2013. However, it’s unclear at this time whether the aforementioned price drop will apply to both the Wi-Fi and 3G versions of the PlayStation Vita in North America and Europe; though the sale at Best Buy had both models locked at $199. At the Sony press conference at Gamescom in Germany, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan confirmed that one of the company's biggest franchise is going to head to the big screen. A "Gran Turismo" movie, which was originally announced in July by The Wrap, is currently in the works.
This is the second big racing video game franchise to have a big screen adaptation head into production. A "Need for Speed" movie starring Aaron Paul is in production at Dreamworks. Both will go head-to-head with Universal's "The Fast and the Furious" franchise.
"The Social Network" producers Michael de Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing the "Gran Turismo" movie. "One that I have been after for over three years. Finally," Brunetti tweeted when the movie was announced.

The long, and bizarre, journey towards Gran Turismo 6‘s official announcement has taken one final unexpected turn just before Sony (presumably) reveals the existence of the title at tomorrow’s Gran Turismo event in the UK.
As discovered by a Joystiq reader, Sony’s official Gran Turismo website has been updated with a product listing page for the unannounced Gran Turismo 6. Currently, the page is completely blank and the only provided detail about the game is the Gt 6 name.
Polyphony Digital’s technically unannounced Gran Turismo 6 was first mentioned by Sony Worldwide Studios’ senior vice-president, Michael Deeny, in an interview last February. Deeny casually tossed out the fact that the racing game was one of the many upcoming first-party titles that was still scheduled for the PlayStation 3.

Today’s Gran Turismo 6 retail listing comes from the Italian site Multiplayer.com. The box art included in the listing (pictured above) looks relatively official, and the retailer is showing that the racing game will be released on November 28th — presumably, this would place it around the same time of the PlayStation 4′s launch.

A new online retailer listing has provided fresh evidence to support speculation that the officially unannounced Gran Turismo 6 will indeed end up being a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Lacking a description, release date, and place holder box art, the listing is extremely bare bones and basically only mentions that the title is a “rating pending” racing game for the PS3.
Interestingly, Newegg notes on the listing that Gran Turismo 6 has been “Discontinued”, and is “currently out of stock.” Additionally, the retailer warns that the game “may or may not be restocked.” Certainly this is a rare feat for a game that has never been released or given an official announcement.

Sony has maintained that contrary to all the rabid rumors surrounding the next generation of consoles, they themselves are in no particular rush to produce and release the PS4. Echoing sentiments from consumer products chief Kaz Hirai who said the PlayStation 4 would not be making an appearance at E3 this year; Sony France CEO Philippe Cardon has now stated:
“The Wii is under time pressure because it’s in decline, As far as we’re concerned, we’re under a lot less pressure. We were the last to release the PS3. We will probably be the last to announce something.”
So while the rumor mill keeps churning for Microsoft and the next Xbox, Sony is basically saying that they are in no hurry to release their nest generation console. However, this does contradict Sony Europe head Jim Ryan who also said: ”I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition.
