Barcelona-based Grup Mediapro has promoted Laura Fernández Espeso to the post of general manager with oversight over not just The Mediapro Studio, where she currently serves as CEO, but the whole of the Group. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2025.
As Grup Mediapro’s No. 2, reporting to Mediapro co-founder Tatxo Benet, Group Media President and CEO, Fernández Espeso will oversee a company now streamlined in five business units, two new, focused on the Group’s principle revenue drivers.
Fernández Espeso replaces Juan Ruíz de Gauna who has had a stellar career occupying senior management positions from an early age at key companies re-shaping Spain’s modern media landscape as ongoing deregulation kicked in, at Antena 3 TV, Prisa’s Sogetel, Sogepaq and Idea, then Via Digital, Telefonica and from 2002 at Mediapro and its commercial broadcaster La Sexta.
Apart from Fernandez Espeso, other long-serving Mediapro execs have been promoted at the giant multimedia communications group.

One of the best decisions the creatives behind Blumhouse's "Five Nights at Freddy's" film adaptation (read /Film's review) made was hiring Jim Henson's Creature Shop to manufacture its merrily murderous mascot animatronics as real-life puppets and not CGI creations. Both the movie and the original video games take place at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a Chuck E. Cheese-style family entertainment center populated by giant animatronics who like to sneak around and murder people under the cover of night. It would be one thing if Mr. Fazbear and his friends were obviously computer-animated in the film. But the fact they're as tactile as the flesh-and-blood humans they're stalking makes the horror of the situation that much more immediate and perceptible.

The latest film from the horror film studio Blumhouse, Five Nights at Freddy’s, proves to be not only less of a typical horror product from the studio, but also more of a family-friendly and engaging story than one might expect from the genre.
The film opens as a troubled security guard named Mike (Josh Hutcherson) is let go from his current security assignment. Soon after this he begins work at a dilapidated pizza/arcade called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Over the course of his first night on the job, Mike notices several odd occurrences that suggest the job may not be the cake-walk assignment it was presented as. Subsequent evenings prove even more harrowing as it appears that the animatronic characters designed as entertainment in the arcade may, in fact, harbor homicidal tendencies.
Scott Cawthon, along with director Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback pen a screenplay based on the video game series Cawthon originally created.

Nearly a decade ago, Scott Cawthon’s point-and-click survival game Five Nights at Freddy’s was released into the world and became an instant hit, thanks to its effective jump scare delivery system via killer animatronics and engaging lore. The concept practically begged for a feature adaptation, and so did the video game series’ loyal fanbase. It’s finally here, with Cawthon producing and sharing co-writing duties with Seth Cuddeback and director Emma Tammi to ensure a faithful adaptation. While seeing this world and its killer characters on screen might be enough to appease the fanbase, don’t expect the same level of visceral scares.

A former intelligence agent claimed that the U.S. government is in possession of a “number” of “non-human crafts.”
David Grusch, an Air Force veteran and former member of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, said in an interview that a number of “non-human origin technical vehicles” have been collected as they have either crashed or landed on Earth.
“I thought it was totally nuts and I thought at first I was being deceived, it was a ruse,” Grusch told NewsNation. “People started to confide in me. Approach me. I have plenty of senior, former, intelligence officers that came to me, many of which I knew almost my whole career, that confided in me that they were part of a program.”
When asked about proof of his claims, Grusch said that he couldn’t show them due to national security reasons.

LA Pride will not be participating in this year’s Los Angeles Dodgers Pride Night following the baseball team’s decision to disinvite the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a nonprofit charity made up of drag nuns, from the event after facing pressure from conservatives.

Bowing to pressure from conservatives including Sen. Marco Rubio, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Wednesday that they had uninvited an LGBTQ charity and drag performance group from participation in their annual Pride Night. The organization, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, is an order of “queer and trans nuns” devoted to “community service, ministry, and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity, and spiritual enlightenment,” according to their self-description.

Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Jim Banks have introduced legislation in the Senate and House of Representatives seeking to ban transgender Americans from serving in the military.
The Ensuring Military Readiness Act would ensure that “persons who identify as transgender with a
history of diagnosis of gender dysphoria are disqualified from military service,” except under a narrow set of circumstances holding that they serve under their biological sex.
“Biden has turned our military into a woke social experiment,” Rubio said in a statement. “It is a stupid way to go about protecting our nation.

Amid intensifying threats to events where drag queens read storybooks to kids, the drag community is considering how to stay safe. These gatherings happen at libraries, bookstores, and other free public places, where the performers entertain and delight children while introducing them to new types of people and teaching them acceptance and inclusion through storybooks. The right wing has recently increased its targeting of the drag community in its battle against all things LGBTQ. In one sense, it’s just the latest example of the types of hate the community has always faced.
