Jules Verne’s version of ‘Die Hard’ takes place not on Christmas Eve in Century City, but 160 years ago at a lonely lighthouse in Tierra Del Fuego. The mini-moguls the Salkinds rounded up a great cast — Kirk Douglas! Samantha Eggar! Yul Brynner! — but let them down severely in production details and particularly the edit. Most everything is here for a classic adventure-suspense picture, but somebody thought it had to be ultra-violent and nihilistic. The new Blu-ray restores it to good color and an uncut state.

Our year of the month is 1970. Here's Tim Brayton...
From the standpoint of 1970, we find ourselves at the dawn of what is almost certainly the least-interesting decade in the history of American animation. Television screens were then dominated by the flat, cheap nonsense of Hanna-Barbera while Warner Bros. and MGM had abandoned their short film programs. Just about the only person trying to do anything with the medium was Ralph Bakshi, whose vulgar cartoons for adults were very often "fascinating," but almost never "good." The problem, in all likelihood, is that for 40 years, American animation had been primarily a matter of people reacting to the things Walt Disney had done; and in 1970, Walt Disney had been dead for four years.
This left his namesake studio in a state of full panic and confusion, looking to find any sort of project that felt like it might be "what Walt would have done.

We’re over the moon excited about the return of Continuum for its third season on Syfy this spring. And today we got an official announcement from Syfy on the return of a few of their shows with Continuum in the mix. Here’s the specific bit about Continuum from that press release followed by the Syfy teaser.
Continuum (Season 3 Premiere)
Returns Friday, April 4 at 10Pm – Season 3 of Continuum amplifies the mythology, technology and the stakes of time travel to an intense and personal level. At the end of Season 2, Alec Sadler made the Earth-shattering decision to hijack Kiera’s (Rachel Nichols) chance to get home, in order to save Emily, the girl he loves, from certain death. This act of desperation not only jettisoned Alec into the near past, but it condemned Kiera to incarceration by the Freelancers, who are ‘collecting’ time travelers in order to protect history. Now,...

It’s true; no matter what certain networks may claim about their “winter finales,” winter doesn’t actually start until December 21, and isn’t over until March 20. Syfy, at least, understands this, and has announced their appropriately-titled winter schedule accordingly.
Happily this means that, starting on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will have some great television to get us through the cold months, including the return of Being Human and Lost Girl, and the premiere of Continuum, and later in the week, the return of Ghost Hunters and Face Off.
Here’s the schedule of premieres, along with series synopses:
Syfy’S 2013 Winter Programming Highlighted By Series Premieres Of Ghost Mine, Robot Combat League, Stranded And Continuum Season Returns Of Hits Being Human, Face Off, Total Blackout, Ghost Hunters, Lost Girl, Haunted Collector And Final Season Of Merlin

What is a little bit Terminator and a little bit Looper? The answer is Continuum, the Canadian science fiction series exploring time travel with a feisty female lead. If those descriptors sound like a safe bet for a hit to you, then you know what the execs over at the Syfy network are thinking. We want it!
Continuum is executive produced by Simon Barry (The Art of War), Jeff King (White Collar, The Black Donnellys), Tom Rowe, Pat Williams and Reunion Pictures. Barry is pulling triple duty. He’s series creator and writer also.
Syfy has picked up the hour-long, action, Time Cop reminiscent drama and THR reports, has selected a release date. We will get to sample the science fiction goodness on Monday, January 14th at 8 p.m. in the U.S.

We hear from our Canadian friends that Continuum is a Do Not Miss series, so we’re really excited about it, and especially pleased that “coming in 2013″ has become “January 14, 2013″. It will be taking on that Mondays at 8 spot previous held by such favorites as Eureka and Alphas, and will be the lead-in for the season premieres of Being Human and Lost Girl. Mondays in 2013 will be excellent.

Syfy sure is on a roll as we have a third new project to fill you cats in on! The network has handed out a pilot order for "High Moon," an adaptation of John Christopher’s cult 1969 young-adult sci-fi novel The Lotus Caves.
Deadline reports that veteran longform producer Robert Halmi Sr. and "Pushing Daisies" creator creator Bryan Fuller ("Hannibal") executive produce the project, written/executive produced by Jim Danger Gray ("Pushing Daisies"). Canadian-based Reunion Pictures is producing the 90-minute pilot which is expected to begin production in Vancouver this fall. Reunion Pictures’ Matthew O’Connor, Lisa Richardson and Tom Rowe also exec produce.
"High Moon," which had been in development at Syfy for two years, creates a future where the countries of Earth have established colonies to mine the Moon’s resources. When a new life form is discovered, chaos erupts as various factions race to uncover and exploit its powerful secrets.

Eventful week. To play catch-up:
The big news that every site reported in a slightly different way is that Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will be a digital series and a TV film, but not a TV show, at least not one produced by Syfy/Universal Cable Prods. You have probably read the Deadline article by now.
With the possibility that Universal may still shop B&C around, it doesn't sound like they have any immediate plans to make more of it beyond the existing pilot/web series/Mow.
No word yet on a release date, but Battlestar Wiki reports that we'll be seeing Blood & Chrome as a web series first and then as a TV movie.
Doug Drexler posted this the other day (full post at the link):
