Screen Producers Australia (Spa) has partnered with Apra Amcos and Aria to launch the ‘Aussie Made’ campaign, which from April will rally Australians to support the local music and screen industries.
As people turn to television, radio and digital devices for both information and entertainment during self-isolation, the three organisations will encourage broadcasters and streaming services to promote and curate Australian content, which they argue will “connect Australians with each other in this time of significant disruption.”
While the industry bodies note there may be some disruptions to the availability of new local content and music, they argue there is a wealth of existing content and talent to be rediscovered.
“Australian content has the ability to bring people together during this crisis, provide comfort and a strong sense of community,” said Spa CEO Matthew Deaner. “With Aussie Made there’s a huge opportunity for Australians all around the country to...

As long-time fans of whip-smart scene-stealer Elizabeth Banks, we were stoked for her leading role in Walk of Shame. Unfortunately, this raunchy vehicle is proving a lemon for the comedienne, failing to impress critics, or theater audiences (though numbers suggest it's doing well on VOD). Now to top it off, she's being sued over it. THR reports Elizabeth Banks and the producers of Walk Of Shame are being sued by Dan Rosen, a screenwriter who claims the concept for the film was stolen from a script he gave Banks back in 2007. He's filed the case through his production company, ironically called Shame on You Productions. Rosen's published screenplay credits include the horror comedy The Last Supper, which centers on a bunch of psychotic liberals who turn cannibal on conservatives, and the little-known R-rated comedy Freeloaders. In his suit, Rosen claims he penned a screenplay called Darci's Walk of Shame, and...

Less than a week after Walk of Shame was simultaneously released in theaters and through VOD outlets, its producers have been hit with a lawsuit that claims that the indie film starring Elizabeth Banks was misappropriated from a writer's screenplay. The plaintiff in the case is Shame on You Productions, operated by Dan Rosen, whose screen credits include The Last Supper and Freeloaders. According to the complaint filed on Wednesday in California federal court, Rosen attempted to get a screenplay called "Darci's Walk of Shame" developed seven years ago. Living on easy street just got a little harder… Today is your lucky day guys, you’ll finally have a chance to check out lovely Olivia Munn in her “sexy” underwear! I mean, we finally have the first clip from the upcoming comedy Freeloaders, and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy. Short video, but who cares now after that underwear-part of the story, right?
Dan Rosen directed the whole thing from a script he co-wrote with Dave Gibbs, which centers on a group of friends who find their luxurious lifestyle threatened when the rock star they freeload off decides to sell his home.

The last time Dan Rosen directed a movie, it was the middling thriller The Curve (aka Dead Man’s Curve) in 1998. He hasn’t been steadily working since then or anything, but now he’s back with a second directorial effort called Freeloaders that has a new Nascar style trailer: the only thing good about it are the crashes. And there are many. The premise is good enough: a bunch of slackers living in a rock star’s mansion are about to get kicked out because he wants to sell, so they try to raise money to buy it from him. Unfortunately, well, just watch the trailer for yourself and get ready to laugh for the wrong reasons: The filmmakers behind the worst National Lampoon and American Pie spin-offs have got to be feeling pretty good about themselves right about now. Freeloaders is being touted as another Broken Lizard flick (or being sold as “From the Producers...

After having pretty much every film be a failure since Super Troopers, I'm not sure why the Broken Lizard name endures. More than likely, there are audiences out there who make the low budget comedies profitable when they pick up the DVD from the bargain bin. Now we have the trailer for the latest comedy with the Broken Lizard name slapped on it: Freeloaders. The film features Olivia Munn, Jane Seymour and Nat Faxon (who has been doing great on Fox's "Ben and Kate") and follows a group of slackers living for free in a rock star's mansion only to find their sweet lives threatened when the musician tries to sell his pad. Here's the first trailer for Broken Lizard's new comedy Freeloaders, originally from Et: Dan Rosen (Dead Man's Curve) directs Freeloaders from a script he wrote with newcomer David Gibbs. The film follows five slacker guys and...

The Broken Lizard guys have spent many years making films and making a little money off them, even if none of them have been giant hits that made them all millionaires. Fresh off a visit to Sundance's edgier cousin, Slamdance, where they spoke to our Steve West, the team behind Super Troopers and Beerfest is gearing up for another project. Variety is reporting that a large cast has signed on to Freeloaders, a comedy about people who live in a rock star's mansion as, well, freeloaders. The movie will star Jane Seymour, Dave Foley, Clifton Collins Jr., Josh Lawson, Kevin Sussman, Zoe Boyle, Nat Faxon and Warren Hutchinson, as well as Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz, who is also producing. No, I have no idea how the unholy union of the Counting Crows and Broken Lizard came about, but I kind of love it. Dan Rosen, who seems to...
