Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) blamed congressional Republicans for squandering their leverage to tackle the border crisis.
DeSantis stated that House Republicans “surrendered” their power to address the ongoing crisis happening at the U.S.-Mexico border after the chamber had passed a foreign aid package distributed billions of dollars to American allies.
The Florida governor accused the party of handing President Joe Biden the foreign aid funds he requested while gaining nothing in exchange for securing the border.
“They basically just surrendered on the border,” he told reporters. “They now have no leverage to do anything on the border. They had an opportunity to insist that Biden accept the border if he wanted all the foreign aid, and they decided to capitulate.”
“And so he got everything he wants, and Republicans voters did not get anything with respect to stopping this problem at the southern border. Look, we’re...

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ campaign and his main super Pac Never Back Down spent more than $160 million during the course of his presidential candidacy.
The governor and Never Back Down directed $53 million through firms controlled or owned by Jeff Roe, the Republican strategist who served as the group’s top adviser.
They spent $31.3 million on television advertising time and $3.3 million on private jets between the campaign and super Pac.
They donated almost $110,000 to the campaigns of state and federal elected officials who endorsed DeSantis.
All for 23,420 votes in Iowa.
Most of the money – $130 million – was spent by Never Back Down, and DeSantis’s campaign spent another $28 million. This costly flop produced insignificant results, and DeSantis chose to drop out prior to the New Hampshire primary and endorse Donald Trump.
However, their efforts tested the limits of campaign finance law.

It’s been a long time since virtually anyone in the elite of right-wing media, the national Republican Party, or conservative grassroots leadership has thought Ron DeSantis was going to win much of anything in this presidential campaign. But Iowa was the 2024 state that was supposed to be his biggest gimme.
On Monday night, even that fantasy came crashing down. Trump dominated Iowa, so much so that the Associated Press called the race barely 30 minutes after caucuses began. Entrance polls showed Trump 30 points ahead of DeSantis and Nikki Haley, who...

A meeting where high-level strategists for Florida Governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis were supposed to discuss strategy against his rival Nikki Haley almost descended into a melee, according to a report from NBC News.
Sources who spoke to NBC revealed that the near-brawl, which took place last Tuesday, reflected growing tensions within the board of Desantis’ main Pac, Never Back Down. According to one source who was in the room, Jeff Roe, a consultant for Never Back Down, nearly came to blows with Desantis’ advisor and Pac board member Scott Wagner.

The first Republican presidential debate is less than a week away, and with frontrunner Donald Trump’s participation still up in the air, candidates are trying to nail down their strategies to make the most of the opportunity.
Ron DeSantis’ preparation may include strategies on how to come off as personable, how to manage face-to-face confrontations with his opponents, and even how to defend Donald Trump — whom he must somehow defeat, of course, to actually win the nomination. The Florida governor’s potential strategy comes by way of a memo...

AI has entered the contest for the race for the 2024 Republican nomination for president.
A pro-Ron DeSantis super Pac released an ad that uses a voice generated by artificial intelligence to impersonate former President Donald Trump, Politico reported.
The ad, created by the “Never Back Down” super Pac, goes after Trump over his recent criticism of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds. It calls the Republican governor “a conservative champion,” and asks why Trump is attacking her.
Then it has a quote in a voice that sounds like Trump speaking about endorsing her and holding rallies. The text is pulled from a Truth Social comment the former president posted on July 10 after Reynolds said she would remain neutral rather than endorse a candidate in the first-in-the-nation primary.
“I opened up the Governor position for Kim Reynolds, & when she fell behind, I Endorsed her, did big Rallies, & she won,” the Trump-like voice says.

As primary season continues, troubling questions and palpable dismay linger on the minds of many voters. The same tired fights of 2016 are playing out yet again four years later, as Donald Trump’s approval rating creeps higher while the Democratic unity looks like a pipe dream. Defeating Trump was always going to require a once-in-a-generation campaign. Now, it’s beginning to feel like Trump could run away with this thing. What happened?

Take your mind back there. Miami. June 2019. Two nights, 20 candidates. A portrait of the Democratic Party in miniature assembled onstage, mics on, ready to debate.
They are U.S. senators and House members, governors and a mayor, a refreshingly human economic futurist and a self-help guru best known as Oprah’s spiritual adviser. They are young and old, black and white and Asian and brown, wealthy and in debt, gay and straight, war veterans, hailing from all parts of the country. They are, as Democratic chairman Tom Perez proudly points out,...
