This article contains spoilers for Psych.
It’s easy to forget sometimes that Psych is a show that often involves murder. The procedural comedy-drama is well known for its running gags, irreverent humor, and the absurd scenarios that faux psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and his best friend/crime-solving partner Gus (Dulé Hill) often found themselves in, all of which can overshadow the seriousness of the crimes they’re trying to solve. However, the series proves it’s worthy of the drama genre descriptor more often than we realize when it allows itself to go to darker places than we expect.
The most obvious example of this in the series is the Yin/Yang arc. Shawn and Gus go up against these serial killers several times throughout the series, and often find themselves and those they care about directly in harms’ way. Like many serial killers, Yin (Peter Weller...

Psych fans may already have heard rumblings about a fourth Psych movie. Timothy Omundson, who played Carlton Lassiter in the original USA series and three follow-up movies, says the team is just waiting for the greenlight from Peacock. “To my knowledge, certainly there’s a fourth script in place and ready to go,” the Percy Jackson and the Olympians star tells TV Insider, echoing what writer and star James Roday Rodriguez previously shared about Psych 4‘s development. “[Creator] Steve Franks and James Roday Rodriguez were able to write that one before the strike hit. So that was delivered to the network, and I believe it’s sitting on Peacock’s desk. Just waiting for the greenlight to happen, is what I’ve been told. But I’m not entirely up to date on the latest.” Once Peacock gives the word, the whole cast is ready to assemble. “I do believe there...

When A Million Little Things ended its five-season run on ABC earlier this year, it seemed like the door was closed on the series for good.
Now, though, there's a chance that more episodes of the beloved drama could be produced.
Series creator DJ Nash took to X this week to respond to a fan who asked if the show is over.
"It's over. For now," he responded.
In a word? Whoa.
It's not uncommon for TV series to stage comebacks after their series finales.
In this TV climate, shows return for additional seasons years after they wrap up.
Frasier recently returned, 19 years after its series finale, for example.
There's a lot of story to mine from a comeback of A Million Little Things, which gave This Is Us a run for its money as one of the most emotional shows on TV.

One of the USA Network's most beloved television series is "Monk," which aired from 2002 to 2009. A police procedural comedy owing a lot to Sherlock Holmes (but set in 2000s San Francisco), the show followed Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub). A detective with crippling obsessive-compulsive disorder (Ocd) and social anxiety, Monk was once a police officer but retired after the death of his wife Trudy. He semi-comes out of retirement years later as a private consultant and that's when the series begins. Thanks to his performance as Monk, Shalhoub won three Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series, and the finale ("Mr. Monk and the End") broke cable ratings records.
In 2020, Shalhoub and his castmates starred in a mini-reunion for Peacock, "Monk In Quarantine." Monk, an infamous germaphobe, goes the extra mile with safety precautions during the Covid-19 pandemic while his friends check in on him over Zoom. Evidently,...

For a horror fan, the month of October is naturally designated for everything related to Halloween. So this month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies that take place on or around October 31st. As usual, though, these selections can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s Halloween-themed offerings include zombies, witchcraft, killers, and more.
The Midnight Hour (1985)
Image: The Midnight Club (1985)
Directed by Jack Bender.
The Midnight Hour is a great warm-up for the Halloween season, right before diving into heavier or scarier movies. This telefilm originally aired on ABC, then later showed up on cable. While it didn’t open to rave reviews, it has certainly found an audience over the years. The plot is simple enough: teens fool around with magic and accidentally raise an evil sorceress on Halloween. As the night goes on, the town is taken over by ghouls and monsters.

This year’s Humanitas Prizes for screenwriting, usually handed out at Beverly Hilton ceremony, were announced via the Los Angeles Times this year in solidarity with the unions on strike, including the Unite Here Local 11 hospitality workers. And on top of awarding shows like The Last of Us and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Humanitas, an organization founded in 1974, also honored the striking Writers Guild of America itself with its “Voice for Change” award. Past winners of that award have included Ava DuVernay and Kenya Barris.

Now that he’s done with A Million Little Things, James Roday Rodriguez has more time for other projects — including, if all goes well, a fourth Psych movie. The 47-year-old — who stars in the franchise and served as an executive producer on all three movies alongside co-star Dulé Hill — says there’s a script for a fourth movie. In fact, Rodriguez told TVLine recently that Psych 4 would have filmed last year had it not been for scheduling conflicts. “It was all lined up, and we would’ve made an announcement, but then we just couldn’t pull it together in time with everybody going off to do [other projects],” he said. “So, now we just kind of have to regroup, wait for Peacock to decide that they want to pay for it again, and hopefully we’ll be good.” He added: “The script is done. And I think [it’s] pretty fun.” James Dittiger...

Farewell to our favorite friends from Boston!
Wednesday’s finale of “A Million Little Things,” titled “One Big Thing,” gives an emotional send-off to the glue that kept the friend group together: Gary (James Roday Rodriguez).
Two episodes prior to the finale, Gary learned that his cancer returned and was terminal. In an effort to be there for his and his now-wife, Maggie’s son, Javier, in case he didn’t make it, he began filming a series of videos. As the final episode begins, Gary (who is visibly at the end of his life) is prepared to say goodbye to the people he loves the most.
But not before he gives his best friends, Rome (Romany Malco) and Eddie (David Giuntoli), one final mission.
The show opens with Gary — who is battling stage 4 cancer, years after his initial breast cancer diagnosis — lying in his hospice bed in his house,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the A Million Little Things series finale.] A Million Little Things said goodbye — to the series and Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) — in a touching finale that featured a tough decision, heartbreaking moments, and a look to the future. The drama that began with a suicide concluded with an assisted suicide, with Maggie (Allison Miller) by her husband’s side at the end. The rest of the friend group and their loved ones were gathered at Katherine’s (Grace Park) for a big dinner, laughing and telling stories about Gary, just as he’d wanted. Rodriguez, who also co-wrote the finale with creator DJ Nash, opens up about saying goodbye. The last two episodes really go hand in hand. It’s such heavy material, and Gary’s the only one trying to make people laugh consistently. James Roday Rodriguez: Well, that’s who he is, and I think he realizes how difficult...

And with that, we say goodbye to this beautiful series and what very much feels like an end of an era.
It was the most bittersweet finale, with A Million Little Things Season 5 Episode 13 giving us the expected, heartbreaking death of our beloved Gary Mendez.
But the hour also gave us a glimmer of sweetness, flashing forward 15 years so that we could see that everyone, including a handsome teenage Javi, is alright, with a full circle ending that brings a smile to your face.
After the progressive heaviness of A Million Little Things Season 5 Episode 12, it was a bit difficult to retread losing Gary, having to watch him die in front of our eyes.
But, unlike the previous installment, the humor and lightness of this episode eased the pain of losing the very heart and soul of this series as we did.

Spoilr Alert: The story includes details about the series finale of ABC’s A Million Little Things.
DJ Nash’s drama series A Million Little Things ended the way it started, with the death by suicide of one of the friends whose close relationship was at the heart of the show. While Jon’s suicide in the pilot came as a shock to everyone, Gary’s (James Roday Rodriguez) passing in tonight’s series closer had been set up, with the final season building toward it as Gary battled terminal Stage IV lung cancer.
The finale revealed that Gary had made a pact with Rome and Eddie for them to help him die “with dignity” if the pain became unbearable. Javi gets his dad a T-shirt reading “The Original” to go with his “The Remix.” Gary cracks a joke about being down to a medium and soon needing to raid Theo’s closet. No one laughs. “You gotta at least let me...

There’s no easy way of putting this, A Million Little Things faithful: It really looks like Javier “Gary” Mendez Jr. is not long for this world.
The character’s imminent death shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone who’s been watching the show this season: In the premiere, James Roday Rodriguez’s character was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. As his oncologist told him, the advanced stage of the illness meant that there was no chance of remission; the treatment plan involved using medicine to stave off the disease’s advance for as long as possible.

There are a million reasons to love A Million Little Things — as you can see in TV Insider’s exclusive first look at the series retrospective — and that’s why we’re going to miss it so when it ends on May 3. The video, which you can watch above, features the cast sharing what makes the show so special (on and offscreen), as well as a look back at the moments that have made us (and the characters) laugh and cry over the years. “We’ve always said from the beginning we would end this journey when the time is right,” Allison Miller (Maggie) says, with James Roday Rodriguez (Gary) adding, “and as hard as it is for us to say it, this feels like the right time.” And that means saying goodbye to what Grace Park (Katherine) calls “a wonderful, loving creative place and so supportive” and a show...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for A Million Little Things Season 5 Episode 11 “Ironic.”] A Million Little Things, in one of its last episodes, celebrates love with a wedding that leads to a reunion. But “Ironic” also leaves off on a note that worries us that the series could end just like it started: with a funeral. Everything stems from Katherine (Grace Park) and Greta’s (Cameron Esposito) wedding, which doesn’t exactly go off without a hitch, thanks to bad weather. They get married, with Greta wearing Katherine’s father’s wedding tuxedo after a mishap (and they have to go from a ceremony on a boat to a redecorated nautical-themed bar). In other happier news (if you’re a fan of the couple), Eddie (David Giuntoli) and Delilah (Stephanie Szostak) reunite, thanks to a push from Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) and Maggie (Allison Miller). But it’s while Gary’s getting on Eddie’s case about Delilah,...

When basketball fans gather to discuss the Greatest of All Time, the debates tend to be comparative. Russell vs. Wilt. Magic vs. Bird. The search for The Next Jordan or The Next Kobe or The Next LeBron.
The Current LeBron is still active in his own portion of the Goat conversation, presumably by virtue of his status as producer on Starz’s Survivor’s Remorse. But the newest TV series from James’ SpringHill company is more likely to evoke comparisons than any direct declarations of greatness. My notes on Disney+’s eight-episode The Crossover are scattered with references to other shows that the family basketball drama brought to mind.
It doesn’t quite achieve the lyrical poeticism of OWN’s David Makes Man or the earnest adolescent sincerity of Freevee’s High School or the proficiently executed basketball rush of Apple TV+’s Swagger or the enticing time-jumping mystery of The WB’s Jack & Bobby.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the A Million Little Things Season 5 premiere “The Last Dance.”] There are a million little reasons we’re going to miss A Million Little Things, and number one is the friend group, which the final season premiere highlights in a major way. Everyone rallies around Gary (James Roday Rodriguez), not just when it comes to his cancer diagnosis (things are looking up by the end) — “sorry about bringing the entourage, it’s just that our friend group are very invested in each other’s lives,” he tells his doctor when they all join him for an appointment — but also after his father, Javier (Paul Rodriguez), unexpectedly passes away. Meanwhile, Anna (Erin Karpluk) gets out of prison but leaves town for a fresh start, meaning Eddie’s (David Giuntoli) single again, and Rome (Romany Malco) finds out his father Walter (Lou Beatty Jr.) has dementia. Creator DJ Nash breaks down the premiere...

It's back, and it's already challenging to think about saying goodbye.
So much of A Million Little Things Season 5 Episode 1 nestled into that sweet spot that makes this show so good, endearing, and warming to the heart, and there's something to be said about the series finding its footing and leaning heavily into what it does best for its final season.
The family group feels more cohesive and loving than ever, and that's probably why the premiere elicited tears before it even hit the five-minute mark. Those carried on over until the credits rolled. Oh, A Million Little Things is most certainly back.
The hero of the hour is, without a doubt, James Roday Rodriguez, who executed the more subdued yet cautiously hopeful version of Gary as he faces the unknown with his health, his future with Maggie and their kid, and whatever else life has in store for his family.
