Days Of Our Lives Stars To Compete On Popular Game Show

Weakest Link –Pictured: Jane Lynch — (Photo by: Chris Haston/NBC) Back at the dawn of the new millennium, The Weakest Link was one of the hottest game shows on TV. Adapted from the British version with only minimal changes, the original version featured the British show’s host, Anne Robinson, pulling double duty on both sides of the Atlantic. In doing so, she earned a lot of fans, including Jane Lynch. Now, Lynch is the executive producer and host of the show’s revival, which is currently in its third season at NBC. When we spoke to Lynch about the show, she confessed her love for Robinson’s original version. Countdown star Susie Dent has revealed the identity of two Hollywood stars who “apparently” watch the show.
The long-running Channel 4 game show, which has been on the air since 1982, recently welcomed new presenter Colin Murray. He replaced Anne Robinson.
While promoting his new stint as host, Murray and his co-stars Dent and Rachel Riley were asked about their favourite Dictionary Corner guests, to which Murray named Richard Osman.
Riley opted for Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Chris Packham and Tim Rice, whom she said were “all incredible”.
Dent, who sits next to the dictionary corner celebrity guest, remained hesitant to name one, telling Metro.co.uk it was “impossible to choose”.
Dent said she has “the best seat in the house sitting next to so many fascinating guests”.

Rachel Riley has been made an MBE in the New Year Honours list for her efforts in raising Holocaust awareness and combatting antisemitism.
The Countdown star and mathemetician, whose mother is Jewish, has been honoured for her services to Holocaust education as an avid campaigner.
Riley was a vocal critic of Labour’s handling of alleged antisemitism within the party and Jeremy Corbyn’s conduct while leader.
The 36-year-old Oxford University graduate took over from Carol Vorderman as co-host of Channel 4's Countdown in 2009, after Vorderman stepped down from the role she had held since the show began in 1982.
Her tenure as the resident number cruncher, beginning when she was just 22, has seen her work alongside presenters Jeff Stelling, Nick Hewer, Anne Robinson and Colin Murray.
In January 2019, she made a speech at a Westminster reception for the Holocaust Educational Trust addressing the abuse she received on social media as a public figure.

Alexander Armstrong has explained his decision to turn down a role as host of Countdown.
The presenter was previously offered the position on the long-running Channel 4 quiz show, but turned it down in favour of Pointless, his lighthearted BBC quiz show.
Colin Murray was recently announced as the new host of Countdown following the departure of Anne Robinson (The Weakest Link), who had been host for just a year.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Armstrong was asked by presenter Adil Ray about his past flirtation with the Countdown hosting gig.
Ray said: “You’re so good at the quiz thing. I was surprised to hear, from the researcher I was chatting to for this, that you turned down Countdown? Why? What were you thinking?”
“I took it very seriously, Countdown – it was a job. I take everything seriously that I’m offered,” replied Armstrong. “I felt Countdown was a...

BBC is rebooting its famed quiz show “The Weakest Link” with host Romesh Ranganathan and a line-up of celebrity contestants.
The show, a BBC Studios Entertainment production, will return to BBC One with 12 episodes of 45 minutes each, filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. Celebrities will need to answer a variety of general knowledge questions in the quick-fire quiz before two are left to go head to head — all in aid of their chosen charity.
“The Weakest Link” first aired in 2000 with acerbic host Anne Robinson (who has recently been appointed the first female presenter of Channel 4’s “Countdown”) and members of the general public as contestants. Robinson gained a reputation for her vitriolic put-downs.
The show became one of the BBC’s most successful formats, eventually airing in over 100 countries worldwide, including the U.S. In the U.S., “Glee” alum Jane Lynch is currently hosting a revival version.

If you were around during the early 2000s, you probably hear a very specific voice in your head when you read the following phrase: “you are the weakest link, goodbye”. For two seasons, Anne Robinson repeated that phrase on a weekly bases as the host of the game show, Weakest Link. Although the show only lasted for two seasons, it became a pop culture fixture at the time. They’re a funny old thing, gameshows. Some take the nation by storm, others you wouldn’t watch if you were paid to, with the rest fitting somewhere in between. Those that fall into the first category are ripe for resurrection and slotted back into schedules as if they’d never been away, with varying degrees of success – Channel 4’s recent resurgence of The Crystal Maze has been one of the greatest comebacks in TV history. Yet when it emerged last month that The Weakest Link, complete with Anne Robinson, could be making a return to our screens after a five-year absence, opinion was divided somewhat: do we really want people going round mimicking that God-awful catchphrase all over again? Whilst you’re busy pondering, here are five game shows that, for different reasons should remain exclusive to Challenge TV.

Anne Robinson: 'Light entertainment is about pretty girls - I never got hired because of my breasts'
Anne Robinson believes TV is primarily concerned about beauty when it comes to women.
While the presenter thinks women are judged by their looks, she told Radio Times that the same does not hold true for men.
"If Huw Edwards or Evan Davis had identical twin sisters, they wouldn't be reading the news or presenting Newsnight," she said.
"I'm not saying they're both ugly. It's just a fact, particularly in light entertainment, that it's all about pretty girls in the front row.
"But I've just never worked within those confines. I never got hired because I had beautiful breasts. I got hired because I could write and I could be funny."
Robinson added: "The trick for women's longevity on television [is that] you've got to be clever, versatile, funny and thin."
She also revealed that she turned down lucrative offers to take part in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Sandi Toksvig has claimed that she was rejected as the original host of Have I Got News For You because she was a woman.

Speaking about auditioning for the show, Toksvig said: "They made two pilots, one with me and one with Angus Deayton.

Toksvig also revealed how the decision "made [her] feel inadequate and question whether [she] was really up to it".
She went on to speak about the tabloid scandal involving Deayton in 2002, saying: "I thought Angus was very good and he's an extremely nice chap... but I would not have been caught with either prostitutes or cocaine,...

It's exactly five weeks until the General Election and with the first week of campaigning nearly finished, all seven main party leaders turned up to ITV Studios tonight (April 2) to debate four main issues and tell voters their policies.
David Cameron for the Conservatives, Ed Miliband the Labour Party, the Lib Dem's Nick Clegg, Nigel Farage of Ukip, leader of the Green Party Natalie Bennet, Nicola Sturgeon for the Snp and Leanne Wood of Plaid Cymru all took to their podiums and discussed the economy, immigration, the NHS and education.
And here's what Twitter thought of the two-hour programme:
The set's blue hue and sheer number of podiums required for all seven leaders brought one TV show in particular to mind:
Its time to play, The Weakest Link. #leadersdebate

BBC shows which have never been adapted for Australia or have long since disappeared from our screens could be re-activated under a new co-venture between FremantleMedia Australia (Fma) and BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand.
Among the formats that could emanate from the partnership are current BBC shows Mastermind, Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow and, from the Beeb.s vaults, The Weakest Link, The Generation Game, Last Choir Standing and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
The deal also covers Dancing With the Stars if that show is commissioned by the Seven Network or another Australian broadcaster next year.
The multi-year agreement was announced by Ian Hogg, Fma Regional CEO Australia/Asia Pacific, and Jon Penn, Managing Director of BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand.

Catwoman was a critical a misfire for Warner in 2004, but that doesn't mean we haven't found a few remarkable things to say about it...
A Catwoman movie was originally announced in 1993, shortly after Michelle Pfeiffer's scene-stealing incarnation of the character in Batman Returns the previous year. But somewhere between its announcement and its eventual release in 2004, something mysterious happened. Michelle Pfeiffer left the project. Ashley Judd was attached and then detached, and a sum total of 28 screenwriters got involved in the script. And at some point in that creative process, poor Catwoman was effectively written out of her own movie.
The Catwoman we got was a weird mish-mash of The Crow and The Devil Wears Prada, with Halle Berry's incarnation of the heroine almost unrecognisable from both the comics and the version in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. Described by one critic...

Samsung is facing a Watchdog investigation over allegations that it misled consumers about the amount of storage space that its Galaxy S4 smartphone offers.
The 16Gb model of the Android device has as much as 50% of its memory taken up by pre-installed software, such as the Android operating system and the Korean firm's own extras.
Software features billed as the Galaxy S4's headline upgrades, such as eye tracking, air gestures and universal remote functionality, account for much of the occupied storage space.
Samsung's Galaxy S4 offers expandable storage through microSD support, but the Anne Robinson-hosted consumer rights show will examine whether the firm should have been clearer about how much usable space the phone offers out of the box.
The BBC's teaser for the episode states: "[Samsung] claims its brand new Galaxy phone has an extra large memory - what did it forget to mention?"

I'm not feeling the Team vibe this season. I know it was a risky venture, and kudos to the show for trying something different, but it's not working for me. In only two episodes, it's already become too uncomfortably "High School Clique," with the cool kids in one group, and outcasts in the other. And the smugness level of Team Keeping It Real is starting to rise. Hopefully every few weeks they'll throw a wrench into the proceedings and form new teams (actually, if Dream Team keeps shedding designers, they'll have no choice).
Susan Sarandon was the guest judge this week, and the challenge was to create new uniforms for the coed serving staff and ball boys of the table tennis club she co-owns (and trolls for younger boyfriends at) called SPiN.

BBC One's Watchdog achieved a series high and retained a lead of nearly 900,000 viewers over Wednesday rival Mr & Mrs on October 24. The long-running consumer show, hosted by Anne Robinson, grew 400k week-on-week to 5.13m (23.3%) in the 8pm hour. Interestingly, All Star Mr & Mrs rose an even greater amount, averaging 4.26m (18.3%) for ITV1 and 201k on +1. Despite the fact Dci Banks rallied to 4.43m (18.8%) on ITV1 (+1: 216k), BBC One also reclaimed its 9pm dominance as the opener of Brazil with Michael Palin earned 4.79m (20.3%). Grand Designs, following the added interest in its 300th episode the week before, maintained a solid 2.66m (11.3%) for Channel 4 (+1: 455k). Afterwards, Shameless (more)...

ITV's Jimmy Savile documentary drew strong figures in an unfashionably late-night slot on Wednesday night (October 3), early overnight data shows. Part of the Exposure strand, the controversial programme was watched by 1.72 million (21.1%), easily the most popular show airing at that time of night and ITV1's highest audience in the slot all year - also adding 155k (4%) on ITV1 +1. 'The Other Side of Jimmy Savile', which explored recent allegations that the late DJ molested under-age girls during his time at the BBC, is Exposure's highest-rated investigation since launching last year. Earlier in the 8pm hour, All Star Mr & Mrs closed the gap on BBC One's Watchdog, rising to 4.14m (18.9%) for ITV1 (+1: 107k/0.5%) while Anne Robinson's consumer affairs show maintained a steady 4.72m (21.6%). For Sydney-based photographer Alina Gozin.a, being a great on-set photographer means being everywhere and nowhere.

She also recently shot stills and key art on Around the Block starring Christina Ricci and shared unit stills on highly-anticipated ABC series Redfern Now.

When So You Think You Can Dance takes a week off, what is there to do? Well, here's what I've contrived: a celebration of the nine greatest female reality and/or game show hosts. Cat Deeley just gets me in the mood to talk about reliable on-screen flair, you know? Without further ado, here's a nonet of distaff emcees who make their respective shows both fun and cool. (And I admit, I'm more sympathetic to game show hosts since they're simply tasked with more work.)

Bye bye Chris. It's as if we never knew you.
Yes, already after just one season, Christopher Eccleston was hanging up his leather jacket to move on to pastures new. The news of his departure was leaked just a few days after Rose had transmitted to rave reviews and excellent viewing figures. Unsurprisingly, the fans were a bit concerned about the longevity of Who – only a few more incarnations left, and that's your lot. There was also the great big cloud hanging over the season finale. Would Eccleston get his very own regeneration scene, and more to the point, would modern-day viewers be able to comprehend such a drastic change?
Luckily, the answer's yes, since Bad Wolf / The Parting Of The Ways (which will from now on be referred to as Bad Ways, just for the sake of not having to type out the whole damn thing again) ticks all the boxes,...

The dearth continues. As the year progresses and so few good programs make it onto our screens, I'm driven to ever more fanciful conspiracy theories as to why there's nothing good on the motherloving television box anymore. Of course there's the Crimson Petal thing, and "Twenty Twelve" has been good, but what's going on? Why are we remaking "Absolutely Fabulous", as I just heard? Where's the new stuff? There has to be some huge, great reason that it's all being kept from us. But what is that reason?
And so, without further ado, to the only show I watched this week. I didn't dare attempt the tripe with Max Beesley on ITV. I've got some pride, damn it.

Exclusive: Former Daily Show and Colbert Report executive producer Ben Karlin has signed a two-year deal with ABC Studios. Under the pact, which starts on April 1, The Colbert Report co-creator will develop projects for the studio through his company SuperEgo Industries, which will be based on the Disney lot. Karlin will executive produce his original projects (2 scripts per year) with his manager, 3 Arts' David Miner. The pact stems from a cast-contingent script Karlin had at ABC Studios this development season, It's Not Me, It's You, which has Julie Anne Robinson attached to direct. The project came close to a pilot order at ABC. Karlin most recently produced with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldber the upcoming Mandate/Summit cancer comedy feature 50/50 (aka I'm With Cancer) starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrick and Rogen. UTA-repped Karlin, who won 9 Emmys for his work on The Daily Show and the The Colbert Report, recently had a deal at HBO.
