Kevin Patrick Robbins
- Cinematographer
- Actor
- Writer
Raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Kevin was an actor from the ripe
young age of three, attending summer acting classes and developing his
dry sense of humor. He appeared in the 1986 New Faces production of
Gypsy at Hamilton's Great Hall and began a career as a child extra, of
which he quickly tired. After attending Glendale Secondary School,
Kevin spent six years at Brock University trying to discover himself.
After three years as a business student, he made the transition into
communication studies. While at Brock he spent his second year as a
columnist for the student newspaper, The Brock Press. He later became
that paper's layout designer and editor-in-chief. After his stay at
Brock, he enrolled in the professional screenwriting program at Niagara
College in Welland, Ontario, which was in its first year. He lost
interest in the program, but not his writing. Not completing the
program, he went on to study improvisation at Toronto's famed Second
City, where he graduated from its training centre's conservatory
program. In 2001, he formed Impatient Productions and began directing
the longform improv ensemble The Impatients, which dissolved two years
later. Kevin kept the company and started heading up his own training
program for what is now the Impatient Theatre Company. Among his other
improv-related accomplishments are: first-ever artistic director of the
Staircase Theatre in Hamilton; founder and executive producer of the
Toronto International Improv Festival (also known as the Jamboree);
three-time showcase stage performer at the Chicago International Improv
Festival. Kevin currently resides in Hamilton, where he remains
artistic director of both the Staircase Theatre in Hamilton and the
Impatient Theatre Co., which operates out of Toronto.
