If you’re going to do an Overboard knockoff that slides into the generic sludge of sentimental holiday-season rom-com, then at least find a couple of leads with the charisma and chemistry to pull it off. Unless you’re feverish with excitement at the prospect of Lindsay Lohan’s screen comeback — and if you are, I’m sorry for your life — Falling for Christmas won’t give you much pleasure beyond the recollection of Goldie and Kurt’s fractious, frisky rapport in the 1987 favorite about an obnoxious amnesiac heiress who falls for a blue-collar misogynist. As a model for stars with terrific comedy chops elevating mediocre material, there are worse starting points.
This sub-Hallmark dreck made by a bunch of hacks that don’t deserve to be named is the first film out of Lohan’s Netflix deal and her first feature in three years.

Whenever articles are written about the best veteran actors in Hollywood, one particular name is always unjustly excluded. That name? Well, Michael Parks of course. The man has always been a respected character actor in the industry (especially earlier on in his career), but up until the last few years it’s really only been Quentin Tarantino putting him on the proper pedestal. Recently though, filmmaker Kevin Smith has picked up that mantle, highlighting him in both Red State and this week’s new outing Tusk. Smith has done more than his part to get Parks into the spotlight, and man does he deserve it. Parks is likely best known for his role in the show Then Came Bronson, which really put him on the map. Prior to that, he’d been known for a variety of TV movies and his parts in both The Bible: In the Beginning…...

Darin Beckstead, the filmmaker behind Courage & Stupidity, a 25-minute film that reimagined Spielberg’s troubled experiences while making Jaws, is now throwing a hat into the horror genre with his tongue-in-cheek short titled Zombie Valley.
Zombie Valley stars Bus Riley, who was cast to reflect a bit of George Romero, as if the famous filmmaker were caught in one of his own nightmares. It was filmed in promotion of a very different and theatrical project Beckstead currently has in development.
Considering Courage & Stupidity became the first short film to secure a standalone distribution deal with Netflix and Beckstead recently won Best Picture at the Coney Island Film Festival for his feature film Somebody's Hero, we have a feeling he's someone to keep a close eye on! Check out Zombie Valley below along with a trailer for Courage & Stupidity (after all, who doesn't love Jaws) and let us know what you think.

"Bus Riley" and William Inge: or When Playwrights Are Wronged
By Joel Shatzky
Bus Riley's Back in Town is a 1965 Universal production that is vaguely based on a play written by William Inge (1913-1973) in the early1950's bearing the same title. Because of the rewriting of the script and plot by the studio so that the story could be more of a vehicle for Ann-Margaret, Inge removed his name from the credits and not even the fact that the title was from an Inge play was mentioned. It is one of the few times, I believe, that a prominent playwright had his credits removed from a script that was based on his own play. Even Tennessee Williams, who had every good reason to remove his name from...
