Cult classic sitcom Green Wing has been resurrected as a podcast with the original cast and creative team.
Back in 2004, fresh from the success of sketch show Smack The Pony, writer Victoria Pile created Green Wing, a sitcom set in a hospital.
With an ensemble cast that included Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan – who would later reunite to star opposite Matt LeBlanc in Episodes – the comedy is helped enormously by committed clowning the cast, particularly Mark Heap and Michelle Gomez. The show ran for two series from 2004 to 2006 and, in a move more in common with American sitcoms, had a large pool of writers.
After the show ended, the same creative team made the terrific University comedy Campus in 2009, which despite only running for one series is well worth tracking down, especially for the tour de force performance from Andy Nyman as megalomaniacal monster and Vice Chancellor Jonty De Wolfe.

"You see... there was this bee." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a fun comedy series titled Man vs Bee, the return of kooky British comedian Rowan Atkinson making us laugh even more. "A comedy series that will get the whole family buzzing." Atkinson last made the Johnny English Strikes Again movie in 2018, and has been doing a few other Mr Bean comedies recently, including the "Handy Bean" series. In this one, he doesn't play Mr. Bean specifically, but it still looks fun as he gets into more trouble. A man finds himself at war with a bee while housesitting a luxurious mansion. Who will win, and what irreparable damage will be done in the process? In addition to Atkinson, the cast includes Jing Lusi, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Greg McHugh, India Fowler, Claudie Blakley, & Tom Basden. Charles Condomine (Dan Stevens) is plagued by writer’s block—so much so that his wife Ruth (Isla Fisher) talked her film producer father (Simon Kunz’s Henry Mackintosh) into paying him to adapt his best-selling detective novel debut into a screenplay. The hope is that an easy task without the need for new ideas will get the creative (and sexual) juices flowing again so that they can push their beds together and maybe even cross the Atlantic to Hollywood. No matter how supportive Ruth has been, however, Charles still can’t muster more than an all-caps “Help” upon the page before losing himself to another temper tantrum. If only his muse was by his side: the first Mrs. Condomine (Leslie Mann’s Elvira), who tragically died seven years prior.

Despite the nondescript title, The Facility is actually a sequel to 2017’s British zombie horror The Rizen, and originally debuted in 2019 on the festival circuit as The Rizen: Possession… a title which clearly marks out where the film is headed and what we should expect. So why the title change? Maybe because the sequel has been released by a different distributor who, selfishly, didn’t want to give the first films release any publicity as they didn’t release it or – and I want to say this is the more logical reason – The Rizen wasn’t actually that well received on its release and the distributor wanted to distance this film from the original. "The moon is full and we must harness its power." IFC Films has released a new US trailer for the kooky relationship comedy Blithe Spirit, a big screen adaptation of the classic stage play of the same name. This opens first in the UK this month, then in the US in February. An over-the-top spiritualist medium holds a seance for a writer suffering from writers block but accidentally summons the spirit of his deceased first wife which leads to an increasingly complex love triangle with his current wife of five years. Described as a "riotous reimagining of Noël Coward's classic comedy, about love that just won't die." The delightfully wacky cast includes Dan Stevens, with Judi Dench as Madame Arcati, Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, Emilia Fox, Callie Cooke, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Julian Rhind-Tutt, James Fleet, and Simon Kunz. This seems like a whole boat load of ridiculously goofy ghost fun.

It takes a truly dedicated forensic pathology expert to be able to solve various crimes, even on scripted television show. That’s certainly the case with the long-running British crime drama series, ‘Silent Witness,’ which was created by Nigel McCrery, a former real-life Nottingham-based murder squad detective based. ‘Silent Witness,’ which is produced by the BBC, […]

In an odd yet welcome turn of events, BBC Two has bought the rights to Harlots, Moira Buffini and Alison Newman’s excellent period drama set in the world of the 18th century London sex trade. But, you ask, didn’t Harlots come out years ago? On ITV? And wasn’t it just cancelled?
Yes, yes and yes to that. Harlots originally aired in the UK on now-defunct digital channel ITV Encore. It was a Us-uk co-production between ITV Studios and streaming service Hulu in the Us. When ITV Encore closed, StarzPlay UK bought the show’s streaming rights and aired seasons two and three via its Amazon Prime channel.
Last month, Hulu cancelled Harlots after three eight-episode seasons, and this month, BBC Two has bought them all. It plans to air seasons one and two back to back later this year, with season three following in 2021. Finally then, after...

[Note: With High Fliers Films re-releasing The Rizen on VOD this week, here’s a reposting of our review from the films original DVD release back in early 2018]
The Rizen is a UK indie-horror film set in a black hallway during the early days of the Cold War in 1955. You can tell this a period piece by the handcrafted, vintage style black walls and black floors. If this movies set design got any darker it would write poetry and start cutting itself.
I had a hard time getting into this film before I even hit the play button. The title is The Rizen. No, not “the risen” as in “the dead has risen” if you’re referencing zombies, or “He has risen” if you’re referencing theological zombies.

Studiocanal has launched the first trailer for the reimagining of Noël Coward’s classic comedy ‘Blithe Spirit’ featuring Dan Stevens.
The film follows best-selling crime novelist Charles (Dan Stevens) who is struggling with catastrophic writer’s block and a stressful deadline for his first screenplay. His picture-perfect second wife Ruth (Isla Fisher) is doing her best to keep him focussed in the hope of fulfilling her dream of heading to Hollywood. Charles’ desperate search for inspiration leads him to invite Madame Arcati (Judi Dench), a medium recently exposed as a fraud, to perform a séance in their home. They all get more than they bargained for when Arcati accidentally summons the spirit of his deceased first wife: the fiery and jealous Elvira (Leslie Mann) who embarks on a mission to kill Charles so she can spend eternity with him which leads to an increasingly comical and deadly love triangle.

The Rizen: Possession, the sequel to Lost Eye Entertainment Ltd. 2017 original, will be premiering at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival next month. The film follows a group of urban explorers and a private mercenary unit as they unwittingly embark upon an underground military base used for secret, occult experiments in 1955 in a bid to win the Arms Race.
In 1955, Nato and the Allied Forces conducted secret, occult experiments in a bid to win the Arms Race. They succeeded, and what they unleashed almost tore our world apart. On the brink of apocalypse, it was only through the silent self-sacrifice of an incredible female Army Captain (Frances) that our world was saved.
Today a group of urban explorers and a private military unit could become the final pieces in a 60-year plan to reopen a door that Frances has been holding closed ever since. As the urban explorers break into the...

“The Handmaid’s Tale” may have just ended its latest season, but the commentary on female oppression continues on Hulu with the return of “Harlots.” Now in its sophomore season, the drama about warring brothels digs deeper into the underlying issues that have created the enmity, along with the gender inequality that has forced the women into such cutthroat circumstances in 18th-century Georgian London.
The series picks up with in-demand harlot Charlotte Wells (Jessica Brown Findlay) having abandoned her mother Margaret’s (Samantha Morton) brothel on Greek Street for Golden Square, the high-end house of rival bawd Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville). This seeming betrayal, however, is part of her revenge scheme to take down Quigley, who is responsible for having forced her mother into whoring as a child, which in turn forced her subsequent children into the life.

Along with ‘interesting’ (which, as Viggo Mortensen’s character says in Captain Fantastic, is a non-word that, ideally, should be avoided), one of the least useful ways to describe a creative work is ‘like [blank] on drugs’.
It’s a question of accuracy. ‘Game Of Thrones on drugs’ as some have labelled Britannia, wouldn’t really be a dreamier, more blurred-around-the-edges version of the HBO show in which characters visit the underworld and converse with badgers. In reality, Game Of Thrones on drugs would be a solid hour of the Night’s Watch eating Jammy Dodgers and laughing at their boots, or Daenerys Targaryen flying her dragons non-stop up the...

It’s great when a fancy costume picture really has something to say — Alan Bennett’s crazy tale of a king’s episode of mental illness becomes a highly entertaining comedy of errors, but with serious personal and political ramifications. Nigel Hawthorne is exceptionally good as the sovereign whose brain has de-railed; Helen Mirren, Ian Holm, Rupert Everett and Amanda Donohoe variously try to help him — or steal his crown.

The movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust took on a life of its own thanks to Matthew Vaughn.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
“A philosopher once asked, 'Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?' Pointless, really. Do the stars gaze back? Now, that's a question.”
Comic book movies are Matthew Vaughn's speciality. Between Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, and the Kingsman franchise, he's been a constant and eclectic presence as these films have boomed, and if reports are to be believed, his next film could be about either Flash Gordon or Superman.
But going back even further than Mark Millar or Marvel, Vaughn's first comic book movie was his adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust. Before it was published as a novel in 1999, Gaiman conceived the postmodern fairy tale as a 'prestige'...

The approach is a blend of comedy of discomfort – a brilliant cameo by Julian Rhind-Tutt is mortifyingly funny – and sober reflection on lives that have reached a turning point. It’s not wholly original, but Burn Burn Burn is nicely acted and emotionally authentic. Button shows real promise as a director.

A last request to scatter their best friend’s ashes leads to some surreal and startling moments on the road
This confident, relaxed British feature debut by director Chanya Button and screenwriter Charlie Covell is a sort of millennials’ mashup of Laughter in Paradise and Last Orders. Cynical twentysomething Dan (Jack Farthing) has just died of cancer, and has posthumously ordered his two best friends Seph (Laura Carmichael) and Alex (Chloe Perrie) to go on a road trip across Britain to scatter his ashes in personally important locations, for reasons he announces in separate videos which they have promised to watch in each place. In engineering this cathartic quest, Dan plans to sort out their personal issues from beyond the grave. It’s not the most original premise, but it’s very nicely acted by Carmichael and Perrie (who was the lead in Scott Graham’s 2012 movie Shell). There are...

This past weekend we here in Washington DC got a lot of snow. Um… “A whole lot of snow”? …Okay, how about, “a metric ton of snow”? Ooh… “The fourth heaviest snowstorm dating to 1884.” There. I think that sums it up nicely.
Given this, I (not even kidding) have not left my home in five days (but I’m still sane! No really, I promise! The purple bunnies in my pantry told me so.) And of course, being a very practical person, since I knew the storm was coming I ensured I was well-stocked with all the necessary items beforehand. But then, around the end of Day 1, as the snowdrifts began inching into the two-foot range on my windowsills, I began to wonder what I would do to entertain myself if the power went out (taking with it, one might assume, the Internet).
“Ah-ha!” I said to myself. “I have...
