Exclusive: Lifetime has rounded out cast for both installments of Toni Braxton’s Fallen Angels Murder Club, and Angie Harmon’s Barstow (working title) movies. The movies fall under previously signed deals with Braxton and Harmon, in which they will star in and executive produce multiple films for Lifetime.
Eddie Cibrian has joined the first installment of Braxton’s Fallen Angels, while Kelly Hu joins the cast of the second film. Both films are based on the Hollis Morgan mystery book series by author R. Franklin James.
Cibrian stars as Avery Mitchell, Hollis Morgan’s (Braxton) charismatic boss, while Hu will make her debut in the second installment as the mysterious Joelle. Both productions have started filming and will premiere in 2022. Additionally, Harmon’s Barstow (working title) movies has added Kristoffer Polaha as Elliot, a mysterious stranger with a troubling past.
In the first installment of Fallen Angels Murder Club (wt), members of the Club must have two things in common – a love for books and have a criminal record. Hollis Morgan (Braxton) meets both requirements. Left holding the bag in an insurance fraud scheme concocted by her ex-husband, Hollis served her time and now hopes the court will pardon her conviction so she can return to law school and fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer. But when a member of her book club is murdered in a scene straight out of the previous night’s novel, Hollis once again becomes the subject of police scrutiny. Refusing to get stuck with another bad rap, Hollis sets out to investigate her fellow club members and after a second book-inspired murder, she races to identify the killer before she becomes the next victim.
Cast also includes Keith D. Robinson, Lisa Berry, Yanic Truesdale (Gilmore Girls), Kaitlyn Leeb (Spinning Out), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia), Rainbow Sun Francks (Umbrella Academy), Henderson Wade, Rob Stewart, Raoul Bhaneja and Shawn Ahmed.
The Fallen Angels Murder Club films fall in line with Lifetime’s Broader Focus initiative which supports the hiring of women in key production roles. The movies are produced for Lifetime by Brain Power Studio and executive produced by Beth Stevenson, Nancy Yeaman, Toni Braxton and Rhonda Baraka. The films are written and directed by Baraka.

Black Lightning returns after a week off and the last time we saw Black Lightning, he was lying in a parking lot, beat down by his own armor and Whale’s henchman Joey Toledo. Luckily, Lightning has resourceful friends as Gambi shows up with the “Hurt Locker”, an armored van with medical equipment, and escapes from the large police unit looking for him. Why Toledo did not kill Lightning while he was incapacitated is still odd and even his defense that police were arriving seems even odder but I did like Gambi being the one to save the day.
Why all of a sudden is there a large police unit looking for Black Lightning you may ask? Because Deputy Chief Cayman (Anthony Reynolds) is dirty and working with Toledo and Whale. If Detective Henderson does not know his chief is dirty,...

Of all the movies to debut at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, none helped raise their stock more than I, Tonya. Initially thought of as little more than a question mark in the awards race, enthusiastic reviews have shot it into the stratosphere. Now, it’s a true contender, along with being one of the year’s best films. This week, I, Tonya opens and hopes to establish distributor Neon as the next A24, striking gold almost immediately. Not only could this prove to be a crossover hit, it seems very likely to be a legitimate Oscar player. Especially in Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, the picture is looking for a gold medal. The film is a biopic of controversial figure skater Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie), who briefly capturing America’s attention in the 1990’s. Shot using occasional talking head interviews by the chief characters, we see Tonya rise...

In early 1971, Leonard Cohen was still a relatively unknown singer-songwriter. Despite releasing two critically acclaimed records – 1967's Songs of Leonard Cohen and 1969's Songs From a Room – the Canadian artist, who previously plied his trade as a novelist and poet, had yet to tour the U.S. He was then living on a farm in the small town of Big East Fork, Tennessee while preparing the release of that March's Songs of Love and Hate. "I had a house, a jeep, a carbine, a pair of cowboy boots, a girlfriend … a typewriter,...

The Michael Bay-produced found footage thriller Welcome to Yesterday (previously titled Almanac) is headed our way a bit later than anticipated. No one is certain when just yet, but we'll let you know when we get something concrete. In the interim cross February 28th off of your movie-going calendar.
Insiders say the release is being postponed to give Bay, who has been busy directing the mega-tentpole Transfomers: Age of Extinction, which opens June 24th, the opportunity to focus on the smaller movie.
Paramount is now mulling a new release date during the summer or fall.

Director: Barry Levinson. Writers: Michael Wallach. Cast: Kristen Connolly, Jane McNeill, Christopher Denham, Michael Beasley, Kether Donohue, Anthony Reynolds and Andy Stahl. Director Barry Levinson is no stranger to storytelling. He has a history of telling tales of politics and humour in films such as Good Morning Vietnam and Wag the Dog. In The Bay, Levinson was again motivated to tell a film based somewhat in reality involving the Chesapeake Bay. Fishing and oyster harvesting have declined in the fictional town of Claridge, Maryland. And, there are a treasure trove of monsters to blame. Levinson keeps the real cause of this catastrophe cloaked in fog, but this director's archaeological viewpoint keeps the visual presentation interesting and sometimes macabre. The film begins with a very normal July 4th celebration in Anytown, USA. Families come together for chicken wing eating contests, fireworks and pool parties. But, there is something growing in the water.

Title: The Bay Director: Barry Levinson Starring: Kether Donohue, Kristen Connolly, Anthony Reynolds, Andy Stahl, Jody Thompson, Stephen Kunken, Frank Deal, Will Rogers Typically a found footage film means one person just happens to be recording during a phenomenon and just so happens to be committed enough to risk his or her life to keep recording in order to tell the story from beginning to end in a format that just so happens to match a standard screenplay structure. Kudos to director Barry Levinson and writer Michael Wallach for making a movie that actually attempts to compile a more realistic version of found footage, but, in the end, doing so [ Read More ]

It’s not like we have no extant biographies of the remarkable and enigmatic poet, novelist, singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen. They abound. Neither is it the case that a biography has not been published recently. A quick Google search brings up several recent offerings, most notably Tim Footman’s Hallelujah: A New Biography (2009) and Anthony Reynolds’s Leonard Cohen: A Remarkable Life (2011). So . why another? Members of the Cohen club who have read these previous works know all about the songwriter’s home on the Greek island of Hydra, about Phil Spector, Joni Mitchell, Suzanne, Roshi, Mt. With a repertoire of directing credits under his belt that includes films such as Rain Man, The Natural, Wag the Dog, and Bandits, Barry Levinson is not a director many people associate with the horror genre, and even less so with the found footage sub-genre. However, he aims to change that with his latest venture, The Bay, which explores the effects of a viral outbreak in a small town. The movie is penned by first time writer Michael Wallach, and stars Kristen Connolly, Anthony Reynolds, Jane McNeill, and Christopher Denham. A trailer for the movie, which will be screening at Tiff 2012 during the Midnight Madness part of the festival, has now been released, and can be seen below.

However, Reynolds told Yahoo News, he was asked by Republican activists to delay the stunt. Our request for comment from Reynolds wasn't immediately answered. Also, it would not have been a hologram; Coachella Tupac...

That holographic projection of former President Ronald Reagan we’ve been hearing about really is in the works, according to Yahoo News, which reports it was intended to debut outside the halls of the Republican National Convention this week. But the unveiling has been put on hold. “It wasn’t officially going to be part of the convention,” Tony Reynolds, founder of crowdsourcing website A KickIn Crowd, told Yahoo News by phone today. “It was going to be outside of the convention at the Lakeland Center.” But Reynolds said Republican activists asked him to wait out of concern it would distract from Gop presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech. Reynolds obtained rights to a Reagan speech about small businesses. He plans to use the hologram to promote the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act. He has been working with Av Concepts, one of the companies behind the Tupac Shakur hologram...
