Alex Garland may have said that he’s not planning to direct again in the foreseeable future, but he is currently directing another film while his movie Civil War heads out into the world and he works on the scripts for the upcoming 28 Years Later trilogy (a follow-up to his Danny Boyle collaboration 28 Days Later). Garland’s new directorial effort is called Warfare, and he’s co-directing it with Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor for Civil War. Garland and Mendoza also wrote the screenplay together. As Warfare moves forward, Deadline has just revealed the names of several cast members: Noah Centineo (The Recruit), Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark), Taylor John Smith (Where the Crawdads Sing), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn), Henrique Zaga (The Stand), and Evan Holtzman (Hidden Figures).

With Civil War set for release this spring, Alex Garland is to direct again, this time an ‘untitled war movie’. More here.
In the summer of 2022, when he was promoting his pretty unforgettable horror Men, Alex Garland was giving the impression of a man done with directing movies. He’s credited with directing Ex Machina and Annihilation and was reported to have finished up 2012’s Dredd. Then, following Men, he launched straight into making Civil War, which is due for release in April.
However, if he was looking to step away from the director’s chair, it sounds as if the plan is at the very least on hold: according to Deadline, he’s just signed up to another project.
It’s going by the codename ‘Untitled War Movie’, and from that, I’m going to hazard a guess that it’s a war film, for which these is not yet a name.

The trailer for Alex Garland’s Civil War dropped late last year to a mix of reactions. Fans of Garland didn’t know what to make heads or tails out of the project since the epic scope lends itself to more of a big-budget blockbuster action film. Despite the filmmaker not being known for partaking in Michael Bay-style action, the imagery of the war sequences shown in the trailer promotes a kind of action fare that gives off the impression it could be a “one for them” type of movie, especially since A24 has shown interest in getting involved in franchise films. On the other hand, the subject matter is heavy enough and the 28 Days Later filmmaker has been known for making apocalyptic films with an enormous sense of dread.

Andrew Macdonald Photo: Nfts The Last King Of Scotland producer Andrew Macdonald has been named as the chair of Edinburgh International Film Festival from 2024.
The Glasgow-born producer, who heads DNA Films with Allon Reich, will take the festival forward, recruiting an executive team and hopefully breathing new life into the event, which has had a rocky year after its parent charity the Centre for the Moving Image went into administration after last year's edition. Alex Garland is back with A24 for his latest horror thriller. Titled “Men,” the new film from the Oscar-nominated “Ex Machina” writer-director finds current Best Supporting Actress nominee Jesse Buckley haunted by the death of her husband (Paapa Essiedu) and stalked by numerous men (all seemingly played by Rory Kinnear) during an escape to the countryside.
Due out May 20 in theaters, “Men” was written and directed by Garland and produced by Eli Bush, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.
Here’s the official synopsis from A24: “In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Jessie Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears in visionary filmmaker Alex Garland’s feverish, shape-shifting new horror film.

Ashes to ashes, apples to apples, and Jessie Buckley descends into a mouth of madness in “Men.”
Director Alex Garland’s upcoming A24 thriller centers on a woman (Buckley) who plans a countryside holiday while mourning her husband (“I May Destroy You” breakout Paapa Essiedu) who seemingly jumped off of their roof, plunging to his death. Yet Buckley’s character is still haunted by her loss, especially after biting into the “forbidden fruit” on the property of her bed and breakfast.
Buckley starts seeing ghosts — and the face of her innkeeper (Rory Kinnear) — everywhere. How many “Men” is too many? Academy Award nominee Buckley seems to be trapped in a purgatory of her own making, with each male figure demanding she take responsibility for her spouse’s death and the blame for his unhappiness. A24’s “Men” premieres in theaters on May 20.

After directing the heady FX sci-fi series “Devs,” Alex Garland returns to the realm of auteur horror with his latest film, “Men.” It stars newly minted Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley (“The Lost Daughter”) in a role that sounds eerily similar to the woman she played in Charlie Kaufman’s “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”: She’s on a sort of nightmarish vacation trip in the countryside, where something haunting is swirling around in her present, and it has to do with men. Watch the first trailer for the A24 film below.
Joining Jessie Buckley are Rory Kinnear (most recently seen as MI6 employee Bill Tanner in the Daniel Craig James Bond films) and Paapa Essiedu (the “I May Destroy You” breakout who earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor playing Wade). “Men” features cinematography from Rob Hardy, who shot Alex Garland’s Academy Award-nominated directorial debut “Ex Machina,...

Not long after Scott Rudin issued a statement he will step back from film and TV projects, to go with the voluntary exit from theater projects he announced days ago, sources said that Rudin has stepped away from the five projects he had with A24, this following a THR expose by Tatiana Siegel on Rudin’s recidivist bullying of assistants and others who were powerless to do anything about it. There is no official comment, nor a confirmation that Rudin’s name not appearing in the credits of these films. Here are the pictures Rudin is no longer producing for A24:
