- The Pixar movie "Cars" was dedicated to him.
- Before the crash, he and the driver were on their way to the Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, a spiritual conference where successful businessmen mentor men who are trying to straighten out their lives.
- Corpse Bride (2005), Chicken Little (2005), Cars (2006), Open Season (2006), and Waking Sleeping Beauty (2009) are all dedicated to his memory.
- Death occurred when he was a passenger in a car that veered off the road and plunged 130 feet into the Pacific Ocean. The driver was also killed, and another passenger was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

- He has appeared in five films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Beauty and the Beast (1991), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), The Lion King (1994), & Toy Story (1995).
- Brother of Jerome Ranft.
- He was replaced by Rob Paulsen to voice Igor in The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge, most likely because Ranft was busy working with Pixar.
