Stephen Colbert has a new game that many TV networks might like to play.
With pickleball all the rage and the demand for sports programming growing fiercer by the day, CBS has teamed up with Colbert and Funny or Die to produce a celebrity tournament airing Nov. 17. The two-hour event might seem like a goof — and remind viewers old enough of “Battle of the Network Stars” in the ’70s — but it carries serious ramifications for an industry increasingly reliant on sports in all its forms.
In “Pickled,” Colbert joins with sportscasters Bill Raftery and Cari Champion to comment on pickleball antics featuring everyone from Sugar Ray Leonard to Will Ferrell and Emma Watson. According to Colbert, who began playing the racket sport in January, the rivalries in the taped tournament are intense: “You don’t get to be fully employed in Hollywood unless you are competitive, and these people are...

Two more classic game shows are making a return to TV. ABC has ordered revivals of Card Sharks and Press Your Luck. Produced by Fremantle, the shows will go into production this spring. Hosts and premiere dates will be announced soon.
In each game of Press Your Luck, three contestants compete against each other answering questions to earn spins on the Big Board. Contestants then use their spins to win cash and prizes while trying to avoid the Whammy, who could take all of their winnings and leave them with nothing. The winning contestant moves on to the All-New Bonus Round to face the Whammy in a final battle for the chance to win a fortune. John Quinn will serve as showrunner and executive produce, along with Fremantle’s Jennifer Mullin.

Buzz Bissinger received a torrent of abuse for saying the NBA's popularity is declining without white superstars. Now comes Jimmer Fredette, who's dominating March Madness chatter not because he's the best-but because he's white.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a column about the specter of race in the National Basketball Association. I said the league's popularity was being affected because some white fans were turned off to a game in which there was not a single white American superstar.

It was not pretty. Most of the cuts have healed except for the one on my elbow.
I fervently believe what I wrote. There was supporting evidence I should have put in but did not because a column is an opinion and space isn't unlimited at The Daily Beast. I have since discovered more compelling evidence.

Last month, Boosh partnered up with EA Sports to figure out what games from last season the public most desperately wanted to see replayed with different outcomes. Thanks to the realism of the EA's new Ncaa Basketball '09, we can get as close to a replay of those matches as possible... without Doc and the Delorean. We had a bunch of people submit their two cents, here are the top four. Not surprisingly, Stephen Curry makes up 75% of the commentary:
Doug (Pittsburgh, Pa)
"I'll admit it would be nice to see Belmont replay Duke and finally win this time around but the game I would like to see replayed is the Pitt vs Michigan State game in the Ncaa tourney, it should have been a showcase of Neitzel vs Fields but ended up a sloppy mess with too many whistles and no flow to the game."
Anthony (Chicago, Il)
