Has sung in 12 different languages, including German, English, French, Dutch, and Finnish.
His father (Johann Quinn) was an Irish-born salesman, his mother (Edith Henriette Nidl) was an Austrian journalist.
After growing up in Vienna and his parents' divorce, his father took him to the US, but Freddy soon returned to Europe.
Sold over 8 million copies of his first hit record "Heimweh" (Homesickness). which ranked #1 in the German charts for five months (1956).
Performed onstage in roles ranging from "Prince Orlofsky" in 'The Bat' to the titular King (of Siam) in 'The King and I'.
Had ten number 1 hits in the West German single charts between 1956 and 1966.
He is one of the best selling West German artists of the 1950s and 1960s. In total, he has sold over 60 million records.
