One of the greatest bullfighters of Mexico's "Golden Age of Toreros".
He started his career in 1931 after a bull killed his brother, the
renowned Carmelo Perez, during a bout in Spain. He retired in 1953. In
the 1960s, Mexican singer-songwriter Agustin Lara wrote a song,
"Silverio" in his honor. A statue of Perez stands along one of Mexico
City's main avenues.
