Carol Kohl is sitting on a train. No, she isn’t waiting for Dom Cobb to take her far away, but she is waiting for… something. Her watch is ticking, even though it doesn’t have any hands. The train isn’t moving. She’s completely alone. In an adjacent car, Carol (voiced by Martha Kelly) can see a horde of happy commuters staring back at her. A couple clad in suits of seaweed clink champagne flutes. A scuba diver swims through the air, between balloons floating like jellyfish. A bride raises her glass to toast Carol from across the tracks.
But Carol can only watch, and sit, and wait. Suddenly, her conductor chimes in to say this train is no longer in service. It powers down. The lights go out. The doors open. When Carol gets up to leave, she sees another version of herself sitting by the door.

Carol Kohl does not feel well in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming animated miniseries Carol & The End of the World, which premieres this month. The story follows a calm and usually anxious woman stranded amid the hedonistic crowd.
While a mystery planet crashes towards Earth, threatening the destruction of humanity, most people feel free to follow their greatest desires. Carol, on the other hand, is by herself.
This 10-episode limited series skillfully combines science fiction with dramedy, guaranteeing an engaging watching experience that will leave fans wanting more.

It's about time T.C. received another piece of good news in his personal life.
The surprise that was sprung on him on Magnum P.I. Season 5 Episode 7 qualified as good news, right?
Maybe that's still up in the air as he and his mother Verna have a lot of missed time to make up for.
Since the series began, T.C. has always had to be the adult among the former military teammates, bailing out Rick and Thomas time after time.
It's a wonder that he's been able to keep Island Hoppers afloat with all the time he's invested into those two and their problems/businesses.
Over the seasons, T.C. has built a life for himself outside of his chopper business and caring for his former squadmates.
He's taken in surrogate son Cade, forming a family. Also, he reconnected with firefighter Mahina, and their relationship also appears to be going strong.

Celebrities know how important it is to have a good relationship with their fans, but sometimes they need a bit of a reminder. Jane Fonda recently revealed that 9 to 5 co-star Dolly Parton taught her an important lesson about fans while they worked on the beloved movie together.
Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda worked together on ‘9 to 5’ alongside Lily Tomlin
In 1980, 9 to 5 premiered and starred Fonda, Parton, and Lily Tomlin. The movie follows the trio as they work under a horrible misogynistic boss, Franklin Hart. After some hijinks, including mistakenly thinking they killed Franklin and kidnapping him, Fonda, Parton, and Tomlin create a perfect work environment. Things are working out great, but how long can they keep up the ruse that Franklin is still in charge?

Paul Reiser and Rachel Bloom both have extensive experience as comedy writers. Reiser is a seasoned stand-up comedian who created "Mad About You" and has been a staple of film and television for decades. Bloom created, executive produced, wrote, and starred in "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," on top of all her eclectic comedy experience. So it makes perfect sense to cast Reiser and Bloom as a father-daughter TV writing duo in Steven Levitan's new Hulu comedy series, "Reboot."
In the show, Reiser and Bloom play an estranged father and daughter who are forced to work together on a revival of an early 2000s sitcom called "Step Right Up," which is reminiscent of the cheesiest comedy TV shows, taking cues from the likes of "Full House" and "Step by Step." Throughout the show, Reiser and Bloom found themselves in the middle of hilarious scenes taking place in the fictional show's writers' room,...

Richard Roundtree’s two-fisted detective tale burst on the scene announcing that a craze called Blaxploitation was on the way. No matter that the movie is somewhat slow and drab — John Shaft was the identification figure denied black audiences for 60 years, a hero who takes no guff from nobody and consistently tells The Man where to head in. Even bigger was the music theme by Isaac Hayes, which transforms Shaft’s casual stroll through Times Square into an iconic image of the 1970s. Criterion’s presentation of Gordon Parks’ smash hit has the original feature in 4K Uhd and in Blu-ray with the first sequel Shaft’s Big Score! in Blu-ray only.

Back in 1973, producer Ely Landau and his wife Edie launched a daring and unprecedented cinema series that played in the U.S. for two “seasons,” with a total of fourteen titles (but only thirteen were shown), all renowned works—classic and modern—originally produced on the stage. It was called the American Film Theatre. (A review of a DVD box set of the entire series appeared on Cinema Retro Here.)
The concept tried something different. The directive was to take a great stage play, not change a word, and in most cases, use the actual play script as the screenplay. The next step was to hire an accomplished film director to interpret the text for the film medium but stay faithful to the play. Sometimes the director was the same person who helmed the original stage production. A further step was to persuade...

I normally equate seaside towns with peace and tranquility, a place for rest, relaxation, and perhaps writing the Great Canadian Novel (it’s going to be a thinly veiled takedown of beloved children’s TV host Mr. Dressup, for the record). Clark’s Harbor however, the setting of Cry for the Strangers (1982), is a place where my laptop and I shall never set foot; there’s just too much damn tribalistic murder.
Originally broadcast by CBS on February 11th, Cry for the Strangers would have to contend with Barney Miller, Taxi, and 20/20 on ABC and Different Strokes, Gimme a Break! and Hill Street Blues on NBC, and it’s safe to say most eyes were peeping these network staples. But for those with a salty taste for the macabre, the Eye was the network to be. (For this occasion anyway; they can’t all be ABC Movie of the Week’s.

While many child stars have had serious problems later in life, Neil Patrick Harris has proven to be one of the exceptions. He was thrust into the spotlight at age 16 as the star of his own hit ABC show, Doogie Howser MD. He's received a lot of kidding about his alter-ego but he's always been happy to joke about it himself.
Doogie Howser, MD centers around Douglas "Doogie" Howser, a protege who becomes a doctor at 14 and works as a resident surgeon in Los Angeles. The series stars Harris, Max Casella, Lawrence Pressman, James Sikking, Kathryn Layng, Belinda Montgomery, Lucy Boryer, Markus Redmond, Mitchell Anderson, Lisa Dean Ryan, and Rif Hutton.
Following the end of the series, Harris continued to act on television and also worked in movies and musicals. His second breakout role came in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle . That role led him to being cast in...

Tim Hunter, the director best known for his films "River's Edge" and "Tex", has been working mainly in television in recent years. He returns to the big screen with a female-driven Western, "The Far Side of Jericho", that demonstrates great affection for the genre without really resurrecting it. Given the dim audience response to Westerns in recent years, the film is only attempting a brief theatrical release in Los Angeles, then will head straight to DVD.
"Jericho" was the brainchild of the three leading actresses -- Suzanne Andrews, Judith Burnett and Lissa Negrin, friends in real life, who came up with the idea of a Western focused on women. This isn't a brand-new notion, of course. Nicholas Ray's campy "Johnny Guitar" memorably pitted Joan Crawford against Mercedes McCambridge. More recently, "Bad Girls" teamed Madeleine Stowe, Drew Barrymore and others in a feminist look at the Old West. Andrews, Burnett and Negrin approached Hunter with their idea for a less glamorized female Western.
The basic story in a script by Rob Sullivan and rewritten by novelist James Crumley is simple enough: Maxine (Andrews), Claire (Burnett) and Bridget (Negrin) are the widows of three outlaw brothers hanged in the movie's opening sequence. The brothers left a buried treasure that the women decide to unearth. They are pursued by a whole gang of greedy varmints, including the town sheriff and his posse, a couple of Pinkerton detectives and a crazed preacher who all want the loot.
While this quest provides the primary narrative thread, there are many subplots, including the troubled backstories of the three women. Along the way they interact with a young man raised by Apache, and the tribe also intrudes on their journey. In addition, the three widows are regularly visited by ghosts of their dead husbands. Then there's a mysterious stranger who rears up like the Lone Ranger when the women are in trouble.
The movie benefits from the handsome widescreen photography by Patrick Cady, and Mark Adler's rousing score evokes classic scores by Dimitri Tiomkin and Elmer Bernstein. In the last analysis, the film is too clumsily executed to be very satisfying to anyone except die-hard genre fans. All the unwieldy subplots dilute the tension, and some of the elements, like the supernatural trappings, seem completely irrelevant.
While the three actresses have an appealing grittiness, they aren't always up to the demands of the roles. Andrews as the weathered ringleader comes off best. Burnett, as the alcoholic widow with a history of sexual abuse, has some affecting quiet moments, but her emotional outbursts fail to convince.
On the other hand, the supporting cast is strong. Patrick Bergin as the sheriff, Lawrence Pressman as a corrupt banker and James Gammon as the maniacal preacher lend vivid support. The gunfights are well staged, and it's worth noting that though there is a lot of shooting, not many people actually get killed. Maybe that's an outgrowth of the movie's feminine sensibilities.
