Lionsgate may have pushed the release date of The Crow remake back from June 7th to August 23rd yesterday, but they still promoted the film during their panel at CinemaCon today, showing attendees a new trailer. We don’t know when that trailer is going to be making its way online, but JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance and reports that the new trailer reveals more about the film’s story.
Writing from the panel, Lance said attendees were told this version of The Crow is “a complete re-imagining that is not meant to compete with the original. The Lionsgate rep made mention how the original graphic novel is different than the beloved movie and made a point that the trailer was divisive, but they want to tell this story for a new generation.” As for what was shown in the new trailer, Lance writes, “An afterlife way-station...

Alex Proyas, who directed the original version of The Crow in 1994 is not a fan of the idea remaking the film, the new version of which will be released on June 7.
Proyas’ reservations, he says, stem not from some sense of proprietorship, but from fidelity to the original film’s star, Brandon Lee, who died when a gun malfunctioned during production.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” wrote Proyas in a post online. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy.

Proyas took to social media to say, “‘Crow Wick’ Trailer? No comment.“

Lionsgate’s official trailer for The Crow is three minutes of action and spoilers for those who aren’t familiar with the the original graphic novel by James O’Barr or the 1993 film adaptation starring Brandon Lee. The trailer arrived with a new still of Bill Skarsgard as the titular character and the official theatrical poster.
Skarsgard (It‘s Pennywise the Clown) stars as Eric Draven, a character he says he was honored to take on.
“But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before,” explained Skarsgard. “Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical. After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.
Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.
The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).
But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

The internet sure was riled up by those first images of Bill Skarsgård (It) as Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s remake of The Crow a couple weeks back, with even the original movie’s director (Alex Proyas) chiming in and taking a jab at Draven’s “bad hair day.” But it’s not fair to judge movies based solely on a couple of random images. That’s what official trailers are for.

After spending more than a decade in development hell, a remake of The Crow (watch it Here) has made its way through production and is set to receive a theatrical release, courtesy of Lionsgate, on June 7th. A couple weeks ago, we saw the first images of Bill Skarsgard and singer FKA twigs as the new versions of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly; images that didn’t go over well with original The Crow director Alex Proyas. Now we’ve been informed that a full trailer for the film will be released online tomorrow – and while we wait for that, a (very) short teaser has made its way online and can be seen in the embed above. In this teaser, we’re treated to the sight of Skarsgard writhing around in a thick liquid that’s presumably meant to be blood. And that’s it.

Bill Skarsgård is bringing “The Crow” back to life, literally. The breakout “It” star leads the new reimagining of the graphic novel that was infamously brought to the big screen in 1994. Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee originally played the lead role of Eric Draven, a man who comes back from the dead to take revenge on the man who murdered him and his fiancée. Lee was killed on set during the final days of production when a prop gun fired.
“The Crow” has been set for various remakes over the past 30 years, with Mark Wahlberg, Jason Momoa, Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, and Skarsgård’s own brother Alexander Skarsgård all previously attached to different iterations.
Now, with director Rupert Sanders at the helm, Skarsgård is taking on playing rockstar Draven who is killed alongside his lover Shelly (FKA Twigs) by her ex (Danny Huston). Draven sets out to...

The American Psycho reboot is reportedly in development at Lionsgate Films, with the studio looking for writers for the project. The Christian Bale starring 2000 film discussed consumerism in a satirical thriller context and earned a cult classic status. The new project should offer something unique to capture the attention of the audience. One theory for the reboot may have the potential to surpass the original classic.

Exclusive: Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas will be delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The move comes as John Wick architect Chad Stahelski has inked a new deal with Lionsgate to oversee the franchise. He’s working with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.
Advance tracking is already hot on Ballerina, Lionsgate just wants to make the feature, produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road even better. Currently, the Ballerina stands alone on her new summer 2025 date.
Now, there’s nothing for exhibition to fret, for the Rupert Sanders’ redux of The Crow will be taking over Ballerina‘s summer date of June 7 this year. Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of The Crow in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.

We recently heard that Lionsgate has picked up the distribution rights to the reboot of the classic film The Crow (get it Here), which was released by Miramax back in 1994. Before Miramax acquired it, The Crow had originally been set up at Paramount. They decided to let go of it due to the controversy surrounding the on-set death of star Brandon Lee and the amount of violence in the film. So when Paramount acquired Miramax back in 2020, gaining the rights to The Crow in the process, it was like the film had gone full circle. It came back to Paramount. Recently, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, mentioned a 4K restoration of The Crow would be on the Paramount Plus streaming service soon. While it hasn’t hit streaming yet, Blu-Ray.com announced that the 4K Blu-ray is set to come out on May 7th to mark the film’s 30th anniversary.

They centered on a man and his fiancée who are killed by a gang after the couple’s car breaks down. But the man exacts vengeance after being resurrected as the Crow. The late Brandon Lee famously played the character in the 1994 film, and was killed during an on-set accident.
FKA Twigs, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila and Jordan Bolger star. Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, John Jencks, the late Samuel Hadida and the late Edward R. Pressman produced. Zach Baylin and Will Schneider penned the script.

Exclusive: Lionsgate has just tied up an eight-figure deal for domestic rights to The Crow reboot, we can reveal.
Bill Skarsgård (It), singer-songwriter FKA twigs (Honeyboy) and Danny Huston (Succession) lead Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) reimagining of the 1994 cult classic that memorably starred Brandon Lee in his last film role.
In the original revenge thriller, a man who is brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s deaths. Both movies are based on the graphic novel of the gothic character created, written and illustrated by James O’Barr.
CAA Media Finance handled the deal for the film’s domestic rights. John Biondo oversaw on behalf of Lionsgate, with the pact finalized late Wednesday night as the TIFF festival and market gets underway. The movie is expected to release next year.

In keeping with tradition, the 2023 edition of Cannes Classics promises to be a feast for cineastes with tributes to global masters and restored versions of all-time classics.
Cannes Classics’ Memories of Jean-Luc Godard strand pays homage to the master who died in 2022 by screening a restored version of “Contempt” (1963); “Godard by Godard,” a self-portrait of the auteur; and the world premiere of “Phony Wars,” a trailer for a film that will never get made, described by the festival as a venture where the filmmaker “transformed his synopses into aesthetic programs.”
Liv Ullman will be present at the strand with “Liv Ullmann – A Road Less Travelled,” a documentary directed by Dheeraj Akolkar.
Japanese master Ozu Yasujiro will be paid tribute to with screenings of “Record of a Tenement Gentleman” (1947) and “The Munekata Sisters” (1950) off restored prints. “Return to Reason” – where four films of painter, photographer and director Man Ray have been...

This article contains mild spoilers for "Evil Dead Rise.""Evil Dead Rise," the latest installment in the now 40-odd-year-old "Evil Dead" franchise, is filled to the brim with evidence of writer/director Lee Cronin's bonafides toward being a fan of the series. While the film isn't merely a work of fan service, the movie is suffused with references to the earlier "Evil Dead" films, from Deadites screaming "Dead by dawn!" to a very particular clock being seen at a cabin in the film's opening sequence.
Yet Cronin isn't content with paying homage to just the "Evil Dead" series — in addition to multiple references to Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining," "Evil Dead Rise" contains some latent homages to numerous other horror films, including Lamberto Bava's similar demons-loose-in-a-high-rise splatter opus, "Demons 2." Most surprisingly, however, "Evil Dead Rise" appears to have a good deal in common with another Sam Raimi film,...

This past week, veteran filmmakers and industry insiders gathered at the Paris Theatre in New York to bid adieu to Tom Luddy, the Telluride Film Festival co-founder and longtime producer who influenced virtually every facet of the global film community. Luddy’s death earlier this year was a shock not only because he was a beloved figure, but also because of what he represented: the role of the curatorial influencer, who could galvanize filmmakers and impact the state of the art form in ways not so easily quantified.
So who will take the baton now?
Anne Thompson was in town for the Luddy memorial, and on this week’s episode of Screen Talk, she shares some of her takeaways from the memorial with co-host Eric Kohn. In her report from the memorial, Thompson wrote:

A life well-lived is best directed by doing what you love with people you love. And my father, Edward R. Pressman — a film producer, jazz lover, student of philosophy, constant reader and Dodgers fanatic who would have turned 80 on Tuesday — had a life filled to the brim.
On Jan. 17, in the last moments of my father’s life, his family and his company, which has always been family to Ed, surrounded him. We listened to “Gassenhauer,” the theme of Badlands, my father’s fourth film as a producer. He looked so peaceful and beautiful.
Earlier, on this last day, we watched Phantom of the Paradise. I’ve always been in awe of that film. The joy and chaos that is in each frame; the music that, like old souls, lasts forever. You can feel the way that Ed and director Brian De Palma were experimenting together, pushing cinematic boundaries while...

Ezra Miller and Ben Kingsley both portray famed artist Salvador Dalí in the first trailer for the forthcoming biopic Dalíland.
The spot for the film from director Mary Harron (American Psycho) was released Thursday ahead of the film’s release June 9 in theaters and on-demand. Magnolia Pictures nabbed the feature following its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
Dalíland centers on a gallery assistant, played by newcomer Christopher Briney, who is tasked with helping Dalí (Kingsley) prepare for a prominent show in the 1970s amid the artist’s tense relationship with his wife, Gala (Barbara Sukowa). Miller portrays a younger version of the Surrealist painter in flashback scenes.
“Death — it frightens me, and this is the basis of my inspiration,” Kingsley says during an emotional moment from the footage.
Rupert Graves, Andreja Pejić and Suki Waterhouse also appear in the movie that has a script from John C. Walsh.

Ezra Miller and Ben Kingsley are two sides of the same Dalí.
Both actors transform into artist Salvador Dalí for Magnolia Pictures’ “Dalíland,” directed by Mary Harron.
The film focuses on Salvador Dalí, one of the most world-renowned artists of the 20th century, and centers on the later years of the strange and fascinating marriage between Dalí and his wife, Gala (Barbara Sukowa), as their seemingly unshakable bond begins to stress and fracture, per an official synopsis. Set in New York and Spain in 1974, the film is told through the eyes of James (Christopher Briney), a young assistant keen to make his name in the art world, who helps the eccentric and mercurial Dalí prepare for a big gallery show. “Daisy Jones & the Six” breakout Suki Waterhouse, Andreja Pejic, and Rupert Graves also star.

David Byrne knows where he’s going and he knows where he’s been, and the former Talking Heads band leader and near Egot winner is on his way to the Oscars again, 35 years after taking home the original score Academy Award for Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor (which he shared with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Cong Su) with a song nomination for “This Is a Life” from A24’s 11x Oscar nominated Everything Everywhere All at Once which he co-wrote with the pic’s composers Son Lux and Mitski. If Byrne wins a second Oscar next Sunday, it doesn’t bring him closer to an Egot; he needs an Emmy win to do that after two Grammys and a special Tony award for his Broadway showstopper American Utopia.

Ed Pressman was cool. And he had taste. He didn’t care what other people thought of a given project. If he thought it was cool, that was enough. He kept his own counsel; he was quiet. But if he wanted something, he let you know. He was not one to take no for an answer.
This helps to explain how he came to produce some 80 films over the decades. And he had not slowed down in recent years. When Ed and his son Sam came to IndieWire’s Cannes party two years ago, Ed found a quiet corner and worked his phone. Pressman died January 17 of respiratory failure, at age 79.

Alessandro Camon is an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter ( The Messenger), playwright (Time Alone) and former Head of Production at Pressman Films. His production credits with Pressman include American Psycho, Thank You For Smoking, The Cooler, Bad Lieutenant: New Orleans and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. He recently wrote the Steve Buscemi-directed Tessa Thompson-starrer The Listener, and the play Scintilla, which opens in Los Angeles in April.
Ed Pressman was sui generis.
He was a rebel with a bowtie. He was a shy, soft-spoken man with a bold vision and relentless drive.
He was an original thinker, even an eccentric, sometimes a contrarian, always a dreamer.
He was always unafraid to embrace a new idea, a difficult project, an untested filmmaker with great ambition and little experience.

The Berlin International Film Festival will not accredit individuals or organizations directly linked to the Russian or Iranian governments, the organization said Wednesday.
In a statement shared with TheWrap, the festival condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and expressed solidarity with its citizens. It also issued a statement of support for those protesting the Iranian government, which has killed upwards of 450 civilians after the state murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini sparked nationwide unrest.
Independent filmmakers, industry representatives and members of the media will not be excluded on the basis of their nationality.
Last spring and summer, the Cannes and Venice film festivals enacted the same policy concerning Russia. Amini was killed in September 2022, so Iran marks a new addition.

Christian Bale has always had an unnervingly focused commitment to his craft and it's often helped him as much behind the scenes as it has on-screen. Back when he was still a struggling actor, he had to take his commitment to frankly unbelievable levels in order to get cast (and then recast) in "American Psycho."
The 2000 adaptation of Brett Easton Ellis' controversial 1991 novel had been through a shaky development process. Mary Harron was hired to direct after submitting her script, which itself had to beat out multiple other screenplays, including a version by Ellis. The Canadian filmmaker then lobbied hard to get Bale cast as Patrick Bateman, the psychotic, murderous yuppie lead. As Bale recalled in GQ's character breakdown video series, "She really put herself on the line [...] she just said, 'No, I want Christian' even though all the financiers were saying we're going to give you no money.
