“Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker,” produced by Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, shines the spotlight on the next generation of Black and brown dancers at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, where Allen first met Rhimes as a dance parent before partnering on “Grey’s Anatomy.” “When we put this footage together and shared with Shonda, she called and said, ‘Debbie, I have to have this,’ and that was it,” Allen tells Variety. “I can’t say enough about Shonda, who took director Oliver Bokelberg’s work, shaped it at Netflix and has been so supportive in promoting it, loving it and giving it to the world. It’s been like a Christmas present.” Allen reflects on her dance journey throughout the film, and Variety asked the legendary entertainer to share her three favorite dance docs.

Legendary Russian ballerina, Marina Semyonova, has died, aged 101.
The veteran star, who is credited as the first famous prima ballerina of the Soviet era, passed away on Wednesday - just three days before she was set to turn 102.
Semyonova landed top roles in ballets including Sleeping Beauty after starting her career at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin then reportedly invited her to appear at the renowned Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1930, where she performed until 1952. She went on to teach ballet greats including Galina Stepanenko, Maya Plisetskaya and Natalya Bessmertnova.
General director of the Bolshoi Theatre, Anatoly Iksanov, has paid tribute to Semyonova, saying, "Russian ballet is in mourning. At the Bolshoi Theatre she starred as a prima ballerina and then was the wisest and most necessary teacher."...
