Mubi is proud to present the 2nd Dialogue of Culture International Film Festival (Dciff), hosted globally online by Mubi. This free film festival will run online from November 1 – 14, 2013, and be available exclusively on Mubi.
The Dciff is the world's first film festival dedicated to the worldwide phenomenon of people in search of their identity in the era of mass migration and globalization. Its goal is to jumpstart a dialogue between cultures through the universal language of cinema.
The festival program includes films from across the globe, giving voice to multiple perspectives on issues of culture and identity. To create a global dialogue and promote better understanding between cultures, the participating filmmakers, producers, and rights holders have agreed to show their films online for free. The Dciff and Mubi are proud to bring these vital and necessary films to a global audience.

I’ll just fess up: Despite the fact that it’s in its 41st year, the International Film Festival Rotterdam is something I’ve kind of never heard about until today. (Let’s blame it on a slip in my geography skills.) This ignorance on my part notwithstanding, taking a look at their initial lineup for this year — when the event runs from January 25th to February 5th — has left me mightily impressed.
The biggest world premieres come from two directors on opposite ends of at least a few spectrum: Takashi Miike and James Franco. (Discounting the fact that they’ve both depicted amputations onscreen, in one way or the other.) The former is debuting his adaptation of the popular Nintendo DS game, Ace Attorney, while the latter will be exhibiting Francophrenia (Or: Don’t Kill Me, I Know Where the Baby Is). Berlinale, like several other international film festivals, has a "market" component to the festivities separate from the regular, film-going experience, an entire other beast where a multitude of producers, distributors, sales agents and others gather to meet and make business. At such "market festivals" there can be a sickening intimacy between the grounded, simple pleasure of watching a movie as an audience member and the cut-throat bustle and shill of film (and festivals) as a vertiginously complicated business interest and commerce. We all know (or at least we should) that film isn't just an art but an industry, and therefore a business. But the results of the actual production of something—the films themselves—seem terribly distant when a festival submerges one not in the "work" of filmmaking, but the moneymaking and marketing of filmmaking, a distressingly abstracted negotiation of chits, widgets, icons and hucksterism.

Patang (The Kite), a feature film written and directed by Prashant Bhargava, will be screened as part of the 41st Forum in Berlinale 2011. The film, a co-production between India and USA, is a drama set in the backdrop of India’s largest kite festival in Ahmedabad.
Forum will present a total of 39 films in the main programme and 6 films as special screenings, 24 of which are world premieres and 12 international premieres. It is considered to be the most experimental section of the Berlinale which presents original, provocative and disturbing cinema.
In addition, 8 films will be shown from the creative period of the Japanese director Shibuya Minoru. The 61st Berlinale will take place from February 10-20, 2011.

With 274,000 tickets sold and 487,000 admissions, it is considered the largest publicly-attended film festival worldwide. Up to 400 films are shown in several sections, representing a comprehensive array of the cinematic world. Around twenty films compete for the awards called the Golden and Silver Bears. Basically it is the place to be if you work in the business. The European Film Market (Efm), a film trade fair held simultaneously to the Berlinale, is a major industry meeting for the international film circuit once a year. The trade fair serves distributors, film buyers, producers, financiers and co-production agents. The festival has established a cosmopolitan character integrating art, glamour, commerce and a global media attention.

"Olaf Möller lives in Cologne, writes about and programs films." It's a typically modest blurb that appears at the end of innumerable articles for international film magazines but behind it lie countless texts for festival catalogs, regular columns in Cinema Scope and Film Comment (where Möller has also served as a European editor since 2004), annual festival reports from Berlin, Venice, Rotterdam and Udine, books on filmmakers such as John Cook and Michael Pilz, selection duties for the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and curatorial work on retrospectives and film programs for the Austrian Film Museum.
