This latest edition, which runs from 4 to 8 March, is a milestone for the Finnish short-film festival. The Tampere Film Festival in Finland, one of the most renowned festivals on the European short-film circuit, is turning 50 this year. This anniversary edition will be full of celebration, notably with the section ‘Simply The Best’ comprised of two programmes showcasing an award winning film from every decade of the festival’s existence. Amongst them are perennial festival favourites such as Ken Wardrop’s still beautiful documentary Undressing My Mother and the classic and satirical Breakfast on the Grass from legendary Estonian animator Priit Pärn. Lithuanian documentaries will be in the spotlight at this year’s 55th Krakow Film Festival (May 31-June 7) which opens with Krzysztof Kopczynski’s The Dybbuk. A Tale Of Wandering Souls.
It marks is the fourth time Krakow has selected a guest country and will include a special screening of Giedrė Žickytė’s How We Played The Revolution, produced by Dagne Vildziunaite, one of Screen’s Future Leaders in Cannes last month.
Vildziunaite also has the latest film by Žickytė, Master And Tatjana, screening in the festival’s International Documentary Competition.
She will also be participating with such colleagues as the Lithuanian Film Centre’s chief Rolandas Kvietkauskas, filmmaker Audrius Stonys and broadcaster Izolda Keidosiute of Lrt in a conference during the festival to discuss the various strategies adopted by the documentary community in her country .
Other films shown in the “Focus on Lithuania” will include Linas Mikuta’s Dinner, Rimantas Gruodis’ Lucky Year, and Ričardas...

Cartoon Brew has debuted the list of the thirty-three films up for consideration in the Best Animated Short category for the upcoming 2011 Oscars and I have done my very best to find a video for each and every one. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything for Rao Heidmets's Inherent Obligations or Don Hertzfeldt's Wisdom Teeth so if anyone out there can help find video for those either let me know in the comments or shoot me an email.
Otherwise, spend some time over the next three pages to preview some really cool videos. I had a chance to preview a few of them while putting this article together, but have yet to check them all out. So let me know which ones are your favorites and which ones don't really do it for you.

Istanbul is enjoying its year as the European Capital of Culture, with cultural and arts events taking place in the city from one end to the other, inaugurated with a series of ceremonies held in January. The 29th International Istanbul Film Festival took place in the city’s vibrant cultural atmosphere this year from the 3rd of April through the 18th.
Having been conceived as the Istanbul Cinema Days in 1982, the festival eventually became one of Europe’s most important film festivals thanks to the extraordinary work of the organizer, Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (Iksv), led by its charismatic chairman Şakir Eczacıbaşı.
