Peter Salvatore Petralia is a writer and director who grew up as a weird gay kid in Florida in the 80s and 90s in a family that was falling apart. He made sense of his unconventional childhood by learning to tell stories about underdogs, weirdos, and people going through it, like him. He has an MA and a PhD from Lancaster University (UK) and founded the internationally touring theater company Proto-type Theater in 1999. His plays have been produced on four continents and published in several anthology collections. He began writing for film and television to reach a broader audience with stories about people who are often underrepresented on screen, particularly LGBTQ+, strong women, and older people. Peter attributes his empathy for people and his ability to capture richly detailed worlds to a one-of-a-kind life that has included a stint in the circus, time as a producer of video games including Barbie's first GameBoy Color, and his experience as an older gay amateur boxer.
