We also have a new featurette with stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth discussing the movie, and a couple of new posters.

Turns out, Anya Taylor-Joy has a shaved head in “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa.”
The “Queen’s Gambit” star recently told Empire magazine that director George Miller told her to not shave her head for the role; however, in the new trailer, a buzzed cut is boasted by the star, mirroring Charlize Theron’s look as Furiosa for “Fury Road.” Taylor-Joy is almost certainly sporting a wig in the film; we sure haven’t seen her growing back long locks in the time since.
“I feel very lucky that, from the second I read the script, I just knew this person. I felt so fiercely protective over Furiosa, and fiercely protective of her interests,” Taylor-Joy said of taking over the character from Theron. She also told IndieWire that “Furiosa” was the “dirtiest and the bloodiest” she’s ever been onscreen.

The first official trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga confirms two important details. One, Anya Taylor-Joy looks totally badass as the titular character. And two, the long wait between Mad Max films has been worth it.
The two-and-a-half minute trailer’s loaded with gritty action, and Oscar-winning filmmaker George Miller’s epic action thriller captures its predecessor’s vibe.
In addition to Emmy nominee Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), the Fury Road prequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Alyla Browne, and Tom Burke. Miller co-wrote the screenplay with Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Nico Lathouris.
Miller reunites with production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt for Furiosa. His behind-the-scenes team also includes first assistant director Pj Voeten, second unit director, stunt coordinator Guy Norris, director of photography Simon Duggan, composer Tom Holkenborg, sound designer Robert Mackenzie,...

“Furiosa,â€. the Anya Taylor-Joy-starring prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Roadâ€. is to receive financial incentives from federal and state governments, ensuring that production will take place in Australia. The George Miller-directed picture will shoot from June.
“The support of the Federal and New South Wales Governments were pivotal. They made it possible for the film to be greenlit, shot in Australia and for the production to be based in our home state,â€. Miller said in a statement on Monday.

The long-rumoured Mad Max spin-off is in the works at Warner Bros, with Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II heading the cast.
George Miller will direct and co-write Furiosa with Nico Lathouris, an origin story based on the character played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road, according to Deadline.
Taylor-Joy, whose credits include Emma, Split and Glass, will play the lead in the movie which tracks the genesis of the fierce warrior Furiosa before she teamed up with Tom Hardy’s Max Rockatansky in Fury Road.
Deadline did not specify the roles to be played by Hemsworth, who is set to star in WB’s Thor: Love & Thunder, or Abdul-Mateen II, who starred as super villain Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman.
Currently the latter is filming the fourth installment in The Matrix series, directed by Lana Wachowski and starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith.

George Miller has tapped Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to star in “Furiosa,” the prequel movie based on Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa character from 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
Taylor-Joy will play title role, a younger version of Furiosa. Miller had said in a May interview with The New York Times that he’d been searching for searching for an actress in her 20s to take over the role. He said at the time he had considered using de-aging technology in order to allow Theron — who’s 44 –to play the part again, but has decided against doing so. Taylor-Joy is 24.

In this video from Adam Savage's Tested, the former MythBuster continues his exploration of how Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant was made. This time, he speaks with sound recordist Ben Osmo, who reveals some insight into how Scott works on set and how the filmmaker often requests sounds to be played over a loudspeaker or through actor earpieces in order to help elicit a specific reaction from them.

Mad Max: Fury Road has become the most successful Australian film at the Oscars, taking home six statuettes from 10 nominations.
The record haul saw the film, directed by George Miller, overtake The Piano's previous mark of three Oscars in 1993.
The road rage epic took home awards for Production design (Colin Gibson and Lisa Thompson), Film editing (Margaret Sixel), Costume Design (Jenny Beavan), Sound mixing (Ben Osmo),Sound editing (David White) and Make-up and Hairstyling (Lesley Vanderwalt, Damian Martin and Elka Wardega.
Despite the success, Miller missed out on a Best Director's nod with The Revenant's Alejandro González Iñárritu winning his second consecutive award.
Australian cinematographer, John Seale, also missed out to The Revenant's Emmanuel Lubezki.

Open Road / Participant Media’s journalism procedural prevailed in one of the most closely fought contests in years to claim the best picture prize at the finale of the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday.
In two of the most widely predicted wins of the night, Leo DiCaprio was named best actor for The Revenant and Brie Larson scooped the best lead actress prize for Room.
Earlier, Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G Innaritu made it back-to-back wins when he claimed the best directing prize for The Revenant after his triumph last year for Birdman. Inarritu was the frontrunner in the category after prevailing in the DGA awards.

There were a few surprises in there. Spotlight took the Best Picture prize, after missing out on virtually everything else all night (screenwriting aside), Furthermore, Mark Rylance trumped favourite Sylvester Stallone for the Best Supporting Actor gong.
Mad Max: Fury Road won the most gongs, including a hugely deserved prize for its editing. And we’re thrilled too that Ex Machina’s visual effects were recognised.

“The Revenant" pulled off an upset at this year's Cinema Audio Society Awards, winning Best Sound Mixing over the Oscar frontrunner “Mad Max: Fury Road.” However, in good news for the Aussie import, the Cas has an uneven track record at forecasting the Oscar winner, with just 11 of the 21 previous guild champs repeating at the academy. Let’s take a closer look at the race to see who has the best chance of winning: -Break- Subscribe to Gold Derby Breaking News Alerts & Experts’ Latest Oscar Predictions “Mad Max: Fury Road”: Chris Jenkins, Gregg Rudloff, Ben Osmo If Best Sound = Loudest Sound, then this trio should prepare their acceptance speeches. Jenkins is a two-time champ (“Out of Africa” [1985], “The Last of the Mohicans” [1992]) and was nominated for “Dick Tracy” [1990] and “Wanted” [2008]. What a lovely day to win an Oscar! The Academy Awards announced their nominees this morning, and Mad Max: Fury Road came in second for most nominations behind The Revenant. It’s a nice change from the typical epic dramas that always get nominated every year, and now the road to the Oscars will be a furious one. In fact, it’s the first action movie to ever be nominated for Best Picture. I only hope if George Miller wins Best Director, he’ll spray his teeth silver up on stage while accepting the award. Here are the nominations Mad Max has received:
Best Picture Best Director (George Miller) Best Film Editing (Margaret Sixel) Best Cinematography (John Seale) Best Costume Design (Jenny Beavan) Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Lesley Vanderwalt, Elka Wardega and Damian Martin) Best Production Design (Colin Gibson, Lisa Thompson) Best Sound Editing (Mark Mangini and David White) Best Sound Mixing (Chris Jenkins,...

We.ve now all had a few hours to digest the 88th Academy Award nominations, and probably the most pleasantly surprising recognition came in the shape of the 10 nominations for Mad Max: Fury Road. Rather than just being in the below-the-lines categories (often populated by summer blockbusters), George Miller's movie also got nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. Impressive. But how many Academy Awards could Mad Max: Fury Road actually pick up next month? Well, to start off, let.s have a look at each of the Oscar nominations that Mad Max: Fury Road picked up. Leave it to the Brits! The BAFTA nominations were announced and they gave us a slightly different look at the awards season! For instance, Tom McCarthy's "Spotlight," the leading Oscar contender in the U.S. just received 3 noms including Best Film, Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo and Original Screenplay. No Director nomination for McCarthy.
Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies," a handsomely-produced period piece led the pack along with Todd Haynes' "Carol," another handsomely-produced period piece. Both films garnered nine nominations each including Best Picture. "Bridge of Spies" and "Carol" will duke it out with "Spotlight," Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu's "The Revenant" (eight nominations), and Adam McKay's "The Big Short" (five nominations) for the Best Picture trophy.
So where's "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" you ask? They're relegated to the technical categories. Apparently, sequels, no matter how great they are, can't compete with originals.

Oh how the tables have turned! While Sci-Fi and Fantasy films normally do well at the box offices while garnering critical acclaim amongst fans, they’re usually snubbed during awards season. However, things seem to be slightly changing with the list of nominees at two recent award shows. There are few hidden gems that almost seem as if they snuck-in with the rest of the bunch.

George Miller’s action-epic scoops eight awards including best film and best director.Scroll down for the full list
Mad Max: Fury Road has scooped the pool at Australia’s top film awards, the AACTAs, with George Miller’s high-action epic scoring wins in eight of its 11 nominated categories, including best film and best director.
Jocelyn Moorhouse’s retro western The Dressmaker won the Aacta People’s Choice Award at the Sydney event, and Kate Winslet won the Best Actress award for her lead performance (and convincing accent) as a spiteful Aussie seamstress in outback 1950s Australia. Winslet accepted her award via smartphone video selfie.
Her onscreen mum, Judy Davis, was the odds-on favourite to win Best Supporting Actress, which she did. In another acting gong for The Dressmaker, Hugo Weaving seemed as surprised as everyone else when his name was called to the stage of Sydney’s The Star casino complex.

SYDNEY -- The winner of the inaugural Australian Project Greenlight scriptwriting contest has watched one too many Las Vegas-set crime thrillers. Or maybe not enough good ones. Morgan O'Neill, a 32-year-old TV actor making his writing and directing debut with Solo, might have transplanted the fear and loathing to the streets of inner-city Sydney, but the gambling dens, flophouses and neon-lit strip joints, the smoky jazz soundtrack and the cast of shady players are all too familiar.
This somewhat contrived retread, about the efforts of a jaded hitman to extract himself from the Sydney underworld, should arouse some local curiosity (it opens July 6 in Australian theaters) but regular moviegoers will feel as if they have seen it all before.
Lending some authority to the production is Colin Friels (Malcolm, A Good Man in Africa), a veteran actor who has grown into his good looks, much like an antipodean Dennis Quaid.
He plays silver-haired Jack Barrett, an old-school enforcer who works for a group of sketchy operators called the Gentlemen. We meet him up to his elbows in blood, clutching a chainsaw and retching as he dumps body parts over the side of a boat. Rough day at the office, he explains afterward in the first of several wry one-liners.
At 53, Barrett has developed a conscience, possibly after discovering that he orphaned two children with his most recent job, and the work is literally making him sick. He wants out. Naturally, it's not that easy.
As Barrett works to disentangle himself from his life of crime, the plot snarls up with the number of low-lifes lining up to off him, from a coke-snorting cop (Vince Colosimo) to his latest victim's Vietnamese associate (Anh Do) to the Gentlemen themselves.
This is where the plot takes a sharp turn into implausibility.
A young university student named Billie (promising newcomer Bojana Novakovic) is researching a thesis on organized crime and it seems she is getting a little too close for the comfort of the Gentlemen who, despite presumably having faced down their share of drug-dealers, contract killers and cops, are made to quiver in their boots by this twentysomething's questioning.
They agree to cut Barrett Loose provided he does one last job -- bump off Billie. O'Neill, who shot his film in 21 days, sets up an effectively off-key dynamic between Barrett and Billie, but clearly manipulative plot twists dilute the power of the "surprise" ending.
Australian pay TV channel the Movie Network -- which funded the local offshoot of the Project Greenlight competition created in the U.S. by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and American Pie producer Chris Moore -- gave O'Neill AUS$1 million ($763,000) and he has turned out a polished production on that modest budget, bringing on board Academy Award nominee Marcus D'Arcy (Babe) as editor and Ben Osmo (Rabbit-Proof Fence, Strictly Ballroom) to do sound.
The visual styling of production designer Murray Picknett, a two-time AFI Award winner, creates an undertow of menace that accompanies Barrett as he moves within yet apart from a world of seedy stereotypes.
