Fifteen years have gone by since the release of the 28 Days Later sequel 28 Weeks Later, and ever since then we’ve been hearing rumblings that we might someday receive another sequel called 28 Months Later. Way back in 2009, we even heard that Paul Andrew Williams (The Cottage) was on board to direct the film. Since then, every once in a while, we would hear 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland mention 28 Months Later, say there was a great idea for the sequel, then later say it might never happen. Now in an NME interview, Boyle has said that Garland already wrote the script for 28 Months Later a couple years ago and he thinks now might be a good time to make it.
Boyle said, “I’d be very tempted [to direct it]. It feels like a very good time actually. It’s funny, I hadn’t thought about...

Danny Boyle’s 2002 film “28 Days Later” was a watershed moment for horror cinema, bringing back a moribund subgenre (the zombie film), establishing Cillian Murphy as a genuine star and proving that Boyle could literally do any genre he wanted and probably succeed. Now, 20 years later, in a retrospective piece by NME, Boyle and Murphy say they’re ready to return for a new sequel, once again written by Alex Garland who has completed a script.
Murphy said the sequel is still very much on his mind. In the first film he played a bicycle messenger who awakens from a coma to a nearly abandoned London, full of zombies. He survives the film but doesn’t appear in the follow-up, “28 Weeks Later,” which was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and written by Fresnadillo, E. L. Lavigne, Jesus Olmo and Rowan Joffé.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the marketing dept. of Samuel Goldwyn. Director: Xavier Gens. Writers: Jesús Olmo, Eron Sheean and Albert Sánchez Piñol. Cast: Ray Stevenson, David Oakes and Aura Garrido. French filmmaker Xavier Gens must have played the mobile game Shoggoth Rising when he was conceiving Cold Skin. There are moments in his cinematic treatment which looks all too familiar. While the story is different, the fact both owe a huge debt to H.P. Lovecraft says it all. When both take place at a lonely isolated lighthouse and the conflict lies between Man vs. Nature, just who will first succumb to the fury (madness) is easily evident. The cinematography by Daniel Aranyó is gorgeous to behold. The intro feels like it's straight out of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein novel. However, instead of finding two people at odds with each other, they are ferrying...

French extremist Xavier Gens (The Divide) has been super busy lately. Not only did he take the reigns on Cold Skin, an adaptation of Albert Sanchez Pinol's popular novel of the same name, he recently wrapped the yet-to-be released possession thriller, The Crucifixion, And produced Mathieu Turi's post-apocalyptic debut Hostile. For now though, let's marvel at this first teaser, and some stunning stills, for Cold Skin, a Lovecraftian take of madness set to premier in the fall. Pinol's book tells of a man who takes a strange job logging wind conditions on a tiny Antarctic island. Upon arrival, he discovers that he has a reclusive neighbour and that at night the island is "overrun by humanoid killer amphibians." Cold Skin was written by Jesús Olmo...

Viewers first saw it unknowingly unleashed in a research lab at the beginning of 2003’s 28 Days Later, but the Rage virus was just getting started, spreading from an infected chimpanzee to most of England’s population, turning normal people into bloodthirsty killers that roamed the UK in 28 Days Later and its 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later. In a recent interview, Alex Garland, who wrote the screenplay for the former and executive produced the latter, discussed the long-rumored third entry in the series, tentatively titled 28 Months Later.
Speaking with IGN to promote his directorial debut, Ex Machina, Garland touched on 28 Months Later, revealing that it’s more than a movie mirage at this point:
“We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are...

Director Xavier Gens took a moment to share with fans a bit of concept art from his flick Cold Skin that features the flick's monster. David Slade was once attached to direct this adaptation of the Albert Sánchez Piñol novel before Gens took the reigns.
We wouldn't look for this anytime soon, though, as it's been kicking around since 2009 and Gens is in currently in development on several other projects including James Wan's House of Horrors.
Cold Skin was Piñol's debut novel. The book chronicles the stay of an unnamed weather official on a remote island in the south Atlantic close to the Antarctic Circle. The film adaptation was written by 28 Weeks Later's Jesus Olmo.

Sequels aren’t supposed to be as good as 28 Weeks Later, which does what more follow-ups should, and so few do: It uses the concepts introduced in its predecessor as the spine for a fresh dramatic story, instead of simply rehashing the elements that made the original work. In so doing, it manages at numerous points to be every bit as scary and intense as the original, while maintaining an even bleaker and more uncompromising outlook. This is not the kind of cinematic second helping that hedges its commercial bets by scaling back the confrontational stuff.
28 Weeks Later was directed and co-scripted by Spain’s Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who won significant acclaim for his 2001 debut feature Intacto. I admired that film...

But on shore he finds no trace of the man whom he has been sent to replace, just a deranged castaway who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. A couple of weeks ago we reported that David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) had signed on to direct the third Twilight film [1], Eclipse. It is certainly a surprising choice, given the franchise's focus on romance rather than gore and violence, but perhaps it is an indication that they are hoping to take things in a slightly different direction. At the time, some people noted that David Slade's Twitter account had mysteriously disappeared in the days prior to the announcement. Now the reason for this has become clear: it seems that Slade had been bad mouthing Twilight just a few months earlier. Although the original tweet has been lost, /Film [2] dug up an interview with Slade from last November where he talks about his thought process when he considered going to see Twilight at the theatre: "Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid.
