Who says festival season is over? Nobody in the Toronto scene, apparently. While the rest of the Northern Hemisphere gears up for New Years Eve celebrations, the Canadian electronic music hotspot is buzzing over the lineup announcements for the 2015 edition of Solaris Winter Music Festival, which will take place on December 26th and 27th.
Hardwell, Steve Angello, Oliver Heldens and Carnage make up the highest tier of headliners on the lineup announcement, with artists like Mark Oliver, Wiwek, Borgeous and Manzone & Strong rounding out the talent selection.
Toronto’s ever-discerning community of music fans has already taken issue with the lineup announcement in typically vocal fashion. Last year’s attendees were fortunate enough to see the likes of Skrillex, Kaskade and Adventure Club, and many have drawn comparisons between this year’s lineup and that of similar festivals like Veld and Digital Dreams.
Perhaps the next wave of lineup announcements...

Toronto’s annual Labor of Love event is always a big deal, and this year, Ink Entertainment is once again putting on quite the show.
Moving locations from The Guvernment to Sound Academy, and taking place on Sunday, September 6th, the event will feature a star studded roster of talent, with headliners coming in the form of Andrew Rayel, 3Lau and Adventure Club, with support from Mark Oliver and Peking Duk.
It’s an eclectic mix of artists, with a bit of trance, melodic dubstep, house and more, meaning that almost everyone in attendance should find something to like during the night. If there’s one thing that’s for certain, it’s that there will be enough good music to get you moving and with the venue’s solid production elements in play, expect it to be quite the party.

On August 2nd, 2014, Ink Entertainment kicked off the third instalment of their annual Veld Music Festival at Downsview Park. Following in the footsteps of Electronic Nation’s much loved Digital Dreams, the event certainly had a lot to live up to. Plus, with two stellar outings already under their belt, expectations were high for Ink to deliver. But deliver they did.
Neither the rain, nor the muddy field that followed it could keep roughly 85,000 festival-goers (over two days) from dancing their hearts out and singing until they lost their voice. The energy level at Veld was unmistakably high from the get go and the atmosphere was everything you could ask for at an Edm festival.
Things got off to a great start on day one, with some strong opening sets on both of the two stags from artists like Mark Oliver, Overwerk, Oliver Heldens and Nom de Strip. As the first few hours passed,...

The sun has set on Bud Light Digital Dream Festival, but fear not Edm fans – the third incarnation of Veld Music Festival is set to hit Downsview Park in just over a week’s time. This year’s festival is primed to be bigger than any of its predecessors, too, with 2014′s line-up placing a huge focus on variety.
Smaller in scale than the expansive grounds of Ontario Place, Veld’s set-up brings forth two stages: the Main Stage and the Bacardi Stage. The Main Stage features a dazzling array of EDMs most prominent forces, inclusive of Dannic, Bingo Players, Tommy Trash, Dvbbs and W&W. The festival’s Main Stage also welcomes a plethora of the world’s top headliners to this year’s outing.

Art Deco, flapper dresses and pearls are all the rage as fashion takes inspiration from movie set in the Roaring Twenties
When Baz Luhrmann's remake of The Great Gatsby takes the prestigious opening slot at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in May, style-watchers are predicting a visual feast that will turn many back on to the 1920s.
Every few years, a film comes along that proves to be a source of sartorial inspiration: from Audrey Hepburn's gamine princess in Roman Holiday and Diane Keaton's androgynous style in Annie Hall, to the colonial style that swept the catwalks in the mid-80s, heavily influenced by Karen Blixen's cinematic safari in Out of Africa.
Anticipation of the sixth film adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's novel has meant Art Deco style has already been filtering into our consciousness as designers and retailers anticipate audiences eager to mimic the opulent...

With the release of Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies, I decided to compile a list of my favourite films that take a non-traditional approach to the living-dead canon. More specifically, they all blend romance and zombies, in their own unique and twisted ways.
This is the first of what will be a two part article.

Dance of The Dead may seem like another lowbrow, low budget horror film, but in fact, it offers sharp writing, terrific characterizations, likeable performances, and a real affection for geek culture. Imagine the humour of Night of the Living Dorks but powered by the central plot behind Night of the Creeps. Sure Dance uses every rule from the official zombie handbook, but for a movie that seems equally inspired by a John Hughes coming of age flick, Dance of the Dead...

Let me preface this review by saying I originally reviewed the Us DVD of Dance of the Dead way back in in the early days of this site, in early December 2008 to be precise, techincally before Blogomatic3000 even existed! Why the delay between Us and UK DVD releases? I’ve no idea, but it is such a shame that the UK release of one of the best zombie movies of the past 5 years has been delayed so long… Anyway, back to the [updated] review:
Dance of the Dead stars newcomers Jared Kusnitz and Greyson Chadwick as a pair of teens whose prom night is rudely interrupted by a zombie invasion. A cross between a Romero zombie movie and one of John Hughes classic 80’s teen flicks, with a...

Dance of the Dead (2008) Synopsis: On the night of the prom, a group of less-than-cool kids are the only ones aware that a nuclear power plant has somehow re-animated the dead, who now must consume the living! After the zombies follow the loud noises to the prom, and attempt to devour those insides, it's up to our nerds to kick some undead ass, with the help of a militant gym teacher of course. Killer Scene: My favorite scene is probably when the zombies first rise from their graves. We've never really seen zombies come back like this before - they explode from the ground, kicking up dirt, and run off at a full sprint to get their chomp on. Definitely a cool way to see the threat start. Either that, or any scene featuring the militant gym teacher, played by Mark Oliver. KillSheet Violence: As a horror comedy, the violence here isn't the kind that will make...
