Rory Culkin, starring in one of the most interesting and weird true stories of all time should be a slam dunk, and it almost is, except when I think about it, it is miles away. Mayhem was an extraordinary component of the Norwegian Black Metal scene of the 80s and early 90s. Suicide, murder, church burnings and huffing from a bag of dead stuff was the order of the day. Whenever I meet goths in real life, they are unfailingly the nicest people you would ever be lucky enough to meet. Here they are not quite so cuddly.
The early (black) humour and shock value sadly quickly fall away, and what is left is a very...

[Note: With the film now out on DVD, Digital and Blu-ray, here's a reposting of our review of Playmobil: The Movie from its UK cinema release]
Playmobil: The Movie, directed by Lino Disalvo, is the latest feature film adaption of a pre-existing toy or product that is adapted to capitalise on for monetary gain. The world has already been gifted not one but two Lego Movie features as well as a double bill of Angry Birds films, and now it is time for Playmobil to try its hand at creating a franchise and try to stand tall amid other highly successful ventures.
The end result is a mixed venture that does not quite grasp nor understand what works within a feature film of this calibre.

I’d been eagerly awaiting Lords of Chaos after first hearing about the adaptation a good while ago. I was a big fan of the book when it was released and spent many years in my late teens and early twenties listening to the deepest and darkest of black metal. I was a fan, and to this day I still enjoy some of the black metal bands I listened to back in the day but lean towards those without the messages of racism and other isms and ignorant views for obvious reasons. I have never limited myself with the music I listen to. I listen to folk, rock, death and thrash, blues and even some country music.

Der Nachtmahr Trailer Has Been Released. Akiz Ikon‘s Der Nachtmahr (2015) movie trailer stars Carolyn Genzkow, Sina Tkotsch, and Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht. Der Nachtmahr‘s plot synopsis: “Tina, a 16-year-old girl who seemingly has everything a young teenager could ever ask for. After a massive party one evening, however, she begins experiencing nightmares in which she is haunted by an unusual creature. As reality and dreams collide, Tina finds herself befriending the monster and forging a relationship that will change the lives of everyone around her.”
This trailer is massively exciting, inventive, and persuasive. It pulsates with the desire to know what’s really happening. The acting seems surprisingly decent and as if it won’t take you out of the film, unlike most other German films, unfortunately. And the creature effect, oh yes! It looks terrifyingly alien yet familiar. I’m curious as to what that goblin-like, horrifying, slimy critter turns out to be.
