[This story contains mild spoilers from season two, episode six of Loot.]
Maya Rudolph’s Loot is as much about a woman coming into her own identity post-divorce as it is an office comedy, thanks to the characters at Molly Novak’s (Rudolph) charitable organization, The Wells Foundation.
When Molly, the ex-wife of tech giant John Novak (Adam Scott), puts all of her energy into philanthropic efforts, she eventually forms an unlikely friendship with the no-nonsense executive director of the foundation, Sofia Salinas (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez), and grows closer to her employee cousin Howard (Ron Funches). And she unexpectedly develops feelings for another member of the staff, single dad Arthur (Nat Faxon).
In season two of the Apple TV+ series, the personal lives of these characters come more into view as Sofia reluctantly lets her guard down (and breaks a personal-professional boundary by engaging in a romance with a contractor, played by O-t Fagbenle), and Howard, Arthur and Molly’s assistant...

In the final minutes of the season one finale of Loot, the show’s protagonist, Molly Novak (played by Maya Rudolph), wakes up with a multi-layered hangover after a night of drinking one too many and welcoming her ex-husband, John Novak (Adam Scott), back into her bed. Yet despite the shocking cliffhanger audiences were left with, the scene in no way foreshadows a future reunion between the couple who divorced after John’s infidelity. Just minutes into the first episode of the second season of the Apple TV+ series, Molly tells John the only thing she wants from him going forward is “space.”
“Listen, there’s no Team Molly-John here, except for John,” Rudolph tells The Hollywood Reporter in the conversation below. “John’s the only one voting for that and he is completely outnumbered, let’s be honest.”

The first episode ended with John Novak dedicating his space program to Molly. This was an extreme reaction to Molly asking him for some space. John Novak is an insensitive man, and Molly could not stop him from pulling this stunt. Molly, on the other hand, comes up with the idea of buying empty hotels and converting them into shelter homes for the Alameda Street Project. Sofia is excited about Molly’s idea, and this would take the next episode forward.

Loot on Apple TV+, unlike what the name suggests, is not a heist show. This one is rather an endearing take on a rich woman who is never considered as an emotional person and constantly sidelined for having a lot of money. Created by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, the show stars Maya Rudolph as a 45-year-old divorcee struggling with her life and yearning to do something different.
Loot season 1 focused on Molly Novak, the wife of the tech billionaire John Novak. She was seemingly happily married to him until she learned of his infidelity. Molly got a divorce and a hefty alimony, a palatial home in Los Angeles with many helpers at her disposal. Molly, at the age of forty-five, had everything but a life of her own. She had her assistant Nicholas, who supported her through marriage and the divorce, but craved for genuine friends and partners, something...

“Loot” on Apple TV Plus stars Maya Rudolph as Molly Wells, who becomes one of the richest women in the world after divorcing her billionaire cheating husband, John Novak (Adam Scott). For costume designer Kirston Leigh Mann, who’s worked with Rudolph before on projects like “The Good Place” and “Up All Night,” the show is a “10 out of 10” on the fun scale. “Maya is amazing and she’s brave and she’s fashionable, so that makes it fun to design for somebody who’s walked into new money,” Mann reveals in Gold Derby’s Meet the Experts panel. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Maya Rudolph wasn’t exactly seeking out her next television series. Then Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, with whom she’d made her last show, the afterlife dramedy Forever, reached out with an idea. While touring a party space, Molly's assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster), tells her, "As you can probably tell, this is the smallest pool on the entire ship. The last time Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard collaborated with Maya Rudolph on a streaming comedy, it was Amazon’s Forever, an ambitiously strange and formally inventive examination of love and the afterlife. Other streaming credits for Yang have included Apple TV+’s Little America, an anything-goes anthological exploration of the immigrant experience, and the most recent season of Netflix’s Master of None, which audaciously (if not always successfully) extended the beloved, Emmy-winning series to include new characters and a new tone.
No strangers to using TV’s ever-widening landscape to tell often experimental stories, Yang and Hubbard are back with a new streaming comedy, Apple TV+’s Loot. The most unusual thing about Loot, it turns out, is where it’s airing.

Though streaming and cable comedies such as “Ted Lasso,” “Hacks,” “Barry” and “Only Murder in the Building” are poised to receive multiple Emmy nominations, ABC’s perceptive and smartly funny mockumentary “Abbott Elementary” may just teach them a lesson. The freshman series, a valentine to educators who overcome trials and tribulations to teach, is a leading Emmy nomination contender.
Set in a predominately Black, grossly underfunded grade school in Philadelphia, the series stars Quinta Brunson as an eager second-grade teacher who is one of the few educators who have made it to a second year at the school. Brunson also created the series which was inspired by her mother who was a teacher in Philly for 40 years. Reviews were glowing for the series. The L.A. Well, March is definitely “going out like a lamb” (as the old saying goes) when it comes to horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, as there are only several different titles coming home this Tuesday.
Universal Studios is releasing J.A. Bayona’s heartbreaking modern fable, A Monster Calls, to both Blu-ray and DVD this week, and if you're a cult film fan, then you have a few fun movies to look forward to adding to your home collections: Witchtrap, Venom, and the four-film collection for Wishmaster, a new addition to the Vestron Video Collector’s Series.
Other notable releases for March 28th include Mortuary Massacre, The Abduction of Jennifer Grayson, Park Chan-Wook's The Handmaiden (which finally gets the Blu-ray treatment), and for the little monster fans, Monster High: Electrified.

The films are an example of diminishing returns, but the collection is more than the franchise’s fans could have wished for.
There are rumors that Lionsgate’s fantastic Vestron Video line of remastered, supplement-filled Blu-rays celebrating horror films from the ’80s and ’90s may be closing up shop. It’s unconfirmed, and LG themselves have been mum on the subject, but it would be an unfortunate turn of events for genre fans if true. They’re only nine releases in, but already they’ve done tremendous work with fantastic new editions of fun classics like Chopping Mall, Waxwork, and The Gate.
Their most recent release, and possibly their last if the rumor proves true, is the four-film Wishmaster Collection. As someone who had never seen the first film and was utterly unaware that three sequels even existed this set offered a first-time watch across the board. So of course I binge-watched all four across a single...
