- German stage and screen actress, at one time dubbed Germany's Rita Hayworth. A leading lady during the 1950's (often as femme fatale or 'the other woman'), she reputedly spurned an offer of marriage from Orson Welles, and with it the chance to work in Hollywood. She acted in classical leading and character roles (notably of works by Shakespeare, Schiller, Goethe and Ibsen) on stage from 1948, later also directing.
- Niehaus was married to the best-selling author, journalist and chief editor of the illustrated magazine Kristall, Ivar Lissner (1909-1967), whose activities as a spy with the German Abwehr during the Second World War make for interesting reading.
