Director Rob Marshall knew from the outset that the hardest part of his live-action reimagining of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” would be pulling off the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea” Caribbean musical number. It wasn’t just the tricky translation from 2D to CG with hundreds of singing photoreal fish in the underwater environment (courtesy of Framestore’s expert animation) but also the complicated dance choreography set to the toe-tapping song by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman (to whom the film is dedicated).
And they killed it: The joyous musical number is the animated highlight of the film, which deservedly got the loudest applause at early screenings.

Veteran “So You Think You Can Dance” choreographer Christopher Scott leads the field with three nominations for the 2019 World Choreography Awards for his work on the reality competition show as well as the feature film “Zombies” and the digital short “Funraise the Musical.”
This year’s Choreo nominations, announced Tuesday, also spotlighted the dance work from the episodic TV shows “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Code Black” and “Disjointed.” Feature film nominees include Justin Peck for the Jennifer Lawrence thriller “Red Sparrow” and Rob Marshall and John DeLuca for “Mary Poppins Returns.”
The awards recognize choreography produced in 2018 in movies, TV, music video and digital media. Winners will be announced on November 11 at a ceremony at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Aisha Francis is a stunning dancer/choreographer who has taken her talent and transformed some of your favorite recording artists like Beyonce and she can be seen in films “Step Up 3D,” “Bring It On: Fight To The Finish” and the new “Burlesque.” From her style obsession with pumps, to her flare for whipping her hair bigger and better than Willow Smith, Aisha does everything 150% and never holds back.
