- An opera singer by inclination and skill, Ms. Patricia Neway won the Tony award for her performance as the Mother Superior in the original Broadway production of "The Sound of Music".
- She was awarded the 1960 Antoinette Perry (Tony) Award for Best Actress in a Feature Role in a Musical for her performance as Mother Abbess in the musical, "The Sound of Music," on Broadway in New York City.
- She is survived by her niece, Michal Twine, and three nephews.
- She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the Notre Dame College of Staten Island in New York City with a major in sciences and a minor in mathematics. She later studied voice privately and at the Mannes Music School.
