“The Wendy Williams Show” is heading into reruns next week “to allow Wendy to travel and be with her family at this time” after the host announced her mother’s death on the show earlier this week, a spokesperson told TheWrap.
On Monday, Williams revealed that her mother Shirley Williams had “passed away many, many, many, many weeks ago.” That is the reason for the hiatus, the spokesperson said.
The show will return with original episodes on Monday, Jan. 4,” the spokesperson for “The Wendy Williams Show” said in a statement on Friday. “Debmar-Mercury extends its deepest condolences to Wendy and her family.”
“You know how during corona, during the world– topsy-turvy, people starving, people out of jobs? Just everybody’s live is something new? And you know how you lose track of the day and date and the time?” Williams said on Monday’s episode. “All I know is that...

The teams at website Et Online and digital network Et Live have merged, resulting in layoffs across those “Entertainment Tonight”-adjacent brands.
“We have integrated the Et Online and Et Live teams to create one content group that will support and drive the Et brand across all digital platforms,” a CBS Television Distribution spokeswoman said in a statement. “As a result, some positions were reduced.”
Only those specific platforms were affected, two people with knowledge of the staff cuts tells TheWrap. No one from television series “Entertainment Tonight” lost their jobs today.

ESPN took a “hard look” at WWE’s “SmackDown Live” rights, Burke Magnus tells TheWrap, but the Disney-owned cable channel ultimately couldn’t make a live, 52-week show fit.
“We did talk to WWE during their process some months ago. Took a hard look at it, we’re obviously big fans of them. We just went into business with them on the Xfl indirectly,” the executive vice president of ESPN’s programming and scheduling department told us on Tuesday. “But we couldn’t find a fit for it, primarily based on schedule.”
“As you know, those properties are 52 weeks a year live,” he continued. “And I’m proud to say we have a pretty good problem, which is that we can’t clear anything 52 weeks a year live. We have a pretty full portfolio of content as it is.”
Instead, Fox got the rights and switched the show to Fridays,...

“Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris is leaving his longtime home at ABC, amid reports that he is heading on over to Netflix for one of those nine-figure pacts.
A representative for ABC Studios told TheWrap Friday that Barris’ overall deal with the studio — which was supposed to be good through 2021 — will terminate in August.
“I’m very grateful to Patrick Moran and his team at ABC Studios, who have supported me every step of the way as I created the worlds of black-ish, grown-ish, and now Besties,” Barris said in a statement. “It has been an incredible ride including a Peabody and Golden Globe win, Emmy nominations, and many other accolades. But most importantly, they’ve allowed me to realize my dream of creating my own shows and I’m so proud of the work we’ve done together. No matter what, the studio has never wavered in their support of my creative vision.

Viacom is pulling “Roseanne” reruns from its Paramount Network, TV Land and Cmt channels, a person with knowledge of the decision told TheWrap on Tuesday.
The syndication scheduling change, which follows ABC’s cancellation of the hit series’ recent revival, will go into effect on Wednesday.

“While we believe viewers have always distinguished the personal behavior of the actress Roseanne Barr from the television character Roseanne Conner, we are disgusted by Barr’s comments this week,” a Laff spokesperson told TheWrap. “Therefore, we are removing the original ‘Roseanne’ series from the Laff schedule for the time being, effective immediately.”
Later Tuesday, Hulu confirmed it would be dropping episodes of the “Roseanne” revival. “We support ABC’s decision and...

“Marvel’s Agents of Shield” was finally renewed for a sixth season by ABC yesterday — and now we know when it will air.
No, it won’t be fall. Nor winter, nor “midseason,” nor spring: “Shield” is now a summer show. Or at least, it will be in 2019 when it returns during our warmest months.
“By putting it in the summer, we feel like we’re going to be able to super-serve the fanbase that loves that show, and hopefully give it an opportunity to continue on longer than it would if it lived in season,” ABC Entertainment chief Channing Dungey said Tuesday on a call with press.
