Frantic Films VFX -- a unit of India-headquartered post/visual effects business Prime Focus Group (PRFO: Bombay Stock Exchange) -- is launching a new digital mattes and concepts division and has hired Kenneth Nakada -- a matte painter and film effects designer -- to head the unit.
Frantic, with space in Hollywood, Vancouver and Winnipeg, was acquired in late 2007 by Prime Focus, which has been growing its global footprint. In 2006, Prime Focus expanded into the U.K. via acquisition of post business VTR. The recent acquisition of Frantic, along with Post Logic Studios, gave Prime Focus a presence in the U.S. and Canada.
Nakada joins Frantic Films VFX following stints at Momentum/LookFX and Riot.
The new division will be based in Hollywood and will also tap into R&D resources in the Canada locales and collaborate with the creative teams in India and the UK.
