- Aldo Nadi, one of the menancing bodyguards, was in real life an accomplished fencer master, described by many as the "world's greatest fencer". with an equally famous fencing father and brother. Maestro Aldo Nadi had the rare distinction of having been a professional world champion fencer, and as an Olympic fencer, Maestro Nadi had the disntction of winning gold medals in the 1920 Olympic team foil, epee, and sabre events, and took a silver in individual sabre. An aristocratic and elegant bon vivant, Nadi had been a cavalary officer in WWI. His screen role was the antithesis to what he had been in life. Nadi had immigrated to the US in the 30s, and had fought a series of spectacular matches against Maestro Giorgio Santelli. - Aldo Nadi was considered the best fencer of his age. Born in Lirvano, Italy, 1899. He was an Olympic medalist at the age of 21. His fighting weight was 130 pounds, so at 6 foot, he was very lanky. This is why it is a shock that he appears as a body guard in To Have and Have Not (1944). His first appearence was in the French film Tournament, The (1928). He choreographed the fencing scenes in Frenchman's Creek (1944), Captain from Castile (1947), and The Mississippi Gambler (1953).
