As biography writers dig into their book of unconfirmed facts to pen obits about the elusive dictator Kim Jung-il today, following his death from a heart attack, here at PopWatch, we’re watching Team America.
The North Korean dictator’s contribution to pop culture might be a small one (and, to be clear, we’re okay with that) but — at least, most of the time — hilarious. So enjoy these bits from his “appearance” in Team America, “The Kim Jong-il Show” from MADtv, and if you can find a clip of Amy Poehler doing her impression on SNL, share with the rest of the class.

We pay tribute to the love affair between Kim Jong-il and American film with a selection of the late, lampooned leader's finest screen moments, from 30 Rock to Team America
The death of Kim Jong-il has ignited many different reactions. Obituary writers have been able to look back on a lifetime of human rights abuses and expert cognac appreciation. Diplomats will look ahead to an uncertain period of transition as his son Kim Jong-un prepares to assume power. And the rest of us? We'll probably just unwittingly spend the day humming I'm So Ronery from Team America.
As an avowed cinephile, Kim Jong-il lived his life through film. He was rumoured to own more than 30,000 American films in his own personal collection; he also once kidnapped a South Korean film-maker to improve the cinema of North Korea, and he apparently banned the John Cusack film 2012 from release over fears that it...

L.A.-based duopoly Kcbs-tv and Kcal-tv have shuffled the news anchors for their weeknight newscasts.
Pat Harvey, a 20-year Kcal veteran who was one of the original anchors of the station's primetime news, is switching to Kcbs to co-anchor the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Paul Magers, who has held that role since 2004 with Laura Diaz.
Diaz, meanwhile, is getting bumped to Kcbs' 6 p.m. newscast as that program's sole anchor. Diaz will also take on the extra responsibility of hosting and playing a role in the creation of a series of local news and public affairs specials.
Kcal weathercaster Jackie Johnson will succeed Johnny Mountain as Kcbs weeknight weathercaster. Mountain, a five-year Kcbs veteran whose career spans 32 years on Los Angeles television, announced his retirement last month. Josh Rubenstein, the weekday meteorologist for Kcbs and Kcal, will provide Kcal's weeknight weather reports until a successor for Johnson is named.
