Tyrese Gibson argues Dwayne Johnson is being "selfish" over the Fast & Furious spin-off film...
Ulp. Things are still prickly with the Fast & Furious family, following the news that Fast & Furious 9 has been put back a year to the summer of 2020, and in its place in 2019 will be a spin-off movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Earlier this week, Tyrese Gibson had let his feelings be known over Johnson, and he wasn’t happy.
He’s clarified his thoughts in a new interview with TMZ, saying that “I don’t know what they’re doing. Everybody coming at me like I’m hating on Dwayne about his spinoff, but I’m not. The truth is, I just wish he was releasing it at a different time”.

Jason Statham and The Rock are set to get a Fast & Furious spin-off - with Shane Black on the director shortlist...
I think the words we’re looking for here are ‘yes please’.
For some time, it’s been mooted for there to be a Fast & Furious spin-off movie, set around the characters of Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw (played by The Statham). It seems that said project has gathered some – yes! – speed too, not least because we now learn that Shane Black is in the running to direct.
He hasn’t said yes to the project, but Black is said to be on Universal’s shortlist of potential directors for the film. He’s currently editing next year’s The Predator, though, so don’t expect a decision quickly. Chris Morgan is penning the script for the spin-off movie, which is expected to be...

Universal has purchased an untitled action adventure script about the hunt for Genghis Khan’s mysterious tomb, according to Deadline Hollywood. The script is written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who co-wrote the live action Beauty And The Beast, as well as The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia will be executive producers with ImageMovers’ Robert Zemeckis.
Even though this totally seems like the kind of movie that Dwayne Johnson would star in, he will only serve as producer. Johnson and Garcia are already working with Universal on the Fast And The Furious franchise, as well as the untitled spinoff film where Johnson and Jason Statham will reprise their characters in a script by Chris Morgan.

A reboot of the classic 80s action series Miami Vice is currently in development at NBC. Some of you might be happy to learn that the same team behind the Fast and Furious franchise, including Vin Diesel and screenwriter Chris Morgan, are developing the series as Executive Producers.
I enjoyed watching Miami Vice when I was a kid. It was a fun series that starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and it had a pretty solid run from 1984 to 1990. Throughout the course of its run, the series also featured actors like Edward James Olmos, Gene Simmons, Pam Grier, Laurence Fishburne, Viggo Mortensen, and John Leguizamo.
There was also a feature film directed by Michael Mann in 2006 with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. I wasn’t a big fan of that flick as it was fairly boring and very forgettable, which was a shame because I think Michael Mann is a great director.

Can you feel it calling in the air tonight? A reboot of Miami Vice is in the works at NBC, according to Variety.
The reboot is being brought to us by Vin Diesel's production company, One Race Television, and Chris Morgan productions. Morgan has penned six of the Fast & Furious movies. Considering the Fast & Furious franchise started with a cop and 2 Fast 2 Furious took place in Miami, it's not a bad fit.
Peter Macmanus, known for writing TV series such as Satisfaction and The Mist, will be writing the script. No executive producers have been announced but Variety muses that "it’s more than likely Macmanus, Morgan, and Diesel will all serve as EPs".

Update: Variety has reported that Charlize Theron's Cipher, villain from the recent Fate of the Furious, may potentially be a part of this spinoff as well. The plot thickens...
Original Story:
Not everybody was as nuts about the recently-released Fate of the Furious film as I was. However, no mater where you fall on the spectrum in terms of that action-packed piece of escapism, most seem to agree on one thing: Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have amazing chemistry together.
It makes sense, as the plot seemed perfectly contrived to bring out that antagonistic relationship between these two. On one hand, you have a full-on criminal, and on the other, a lifelong law enforcement loyalist. When forced to team up, there’s bound to be some conflict. Once critics first got to see that film, there was buzz of a potential spinoff that would see those two team up again.

In 2013 director Guillermo del Toro brought us Pacific Rim, a fantastic film featuring fighting giant robots and giant monsters called kaiju. With this film he was setting up a universe that one day could grow into future sequels and even a television animated series. It also made over 400 million dollars, no doubt that it was only a matter of time before they got to work on a sequel. But why would Del Toro not direct the second film?

Actor Johnny Depp has signed on to star in Universal Pictures' remake of "The Invisible Man." Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are producing a new line-up of classic Universal monster films by revamping them for today's audience. The film will be based off of the 1933 film, "The Invisible Man", which was directed by James Whale who is responsible for making the original "Frankenstein" and "Bride Of Frankenstein."
The 1933 film followed scientist Jack Griffin who was always given the latitude to conduct some of his own experiments. His sudden departure, however, has Cranley's daughter Flora worried about him. Griffin has taken a room at the nearby Lion's Head Inn, hoping to reverse an experiment he conducted on himself that made him invisible. Unfortunately, the drug he used has also warped his mind, making him aggressive and dangerous. He's prepared to do whatever it takes to restore his appearance, and several will die in the process.

Johnny Depp, owner of cool hats and glasses, will bring his stylish and theatrical flair to Universal's Invisible Man. Deadline reports the actor is set to star in the reboot's titular role as a researcher who, if in line with H. G. Wells's original character, will turn himself irreversibly invisible, develop a comparable penchant for wide-brimmed headwear and dark-colored specs, and ultimately become a terror. The site notes nothing of helmer or timeline, but producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are reportedly getting things going in a writers room. (THR says Men in Black's Ed Solomon could be the main scribe.) The project is definitely part of the studio's initiative to reboot a slew of classic monster flicks in what the trades are describing as a Marvel-esque shared universe — recall the similar Mummy business. But it's also possibly part of a secret campaign to bring back Depp's Willy Wonka...

Similarly to how Terminator: Genisys will likely go down as the star’s final foray in Paramount’s sci-fi franchise – no thanks to its lowly performance both critically and financially – Arnold Schwarzenegger is gearing up for one last swing of the mighty sword as the titular hero in Legend of Conan.
Having first reared its head more than three years ago, many had assumed that Schwarzenegger had quietly cancelled plans to revisit his breakout role. However, according to the Austrian Oak himself, that simply isn’t the case.
News comes by way of TheArnoldFans, revealing that Schwarzenegger and writer-producer Chris Morgan are currently in possession of a finished script – which includes contributions from Oscar-winning scribe Andrea Berloff – and the search is on for a director to take point.

Conflicting reports may have raised question marks over Tom Cruise’s actual involvement in Universal’s upcoming The Mummy reboot, but today the studio has secured the Mission: Impossible stalwart for the monster movie with a new release date to boot.
Previously slated to open on March 24, 2017, Alex Kurtzman’s reimagining will now loom into theaters in all of its mythic glory on June 9, 2017. That’s almost a full year after the film’s original release date of June 24, 2016, which has been shuffled around as Universal maps out the formative entries into its budding ‘Universal Monsters’ shared universe.
Working from a script produced by Prometheus‘ Jon Spaihts, word is that The Mummy of 2017 will be set in the present day, tackling the ancient Egyptian lore from a different angle entirely than the Brendan Fraser-fronted adventure flicks. Much like previous reports had suggested, Spaihts and Kurtzman have selected a female...

Universal Pictures is moving forward with a remake of their classic monster movie The Bride of Frankenstein. The studio has hired David Koepp to write the script for the film.
Koepp is a talented screenwriter who has brought us films such as Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Panic Room, and more. So at least there's a chance that the script for the film will be decent.
I'm not really excited about this idea of creating a new series of new monster movie remakes that are being spearheaded by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. The fact they are looking to contemporize everything is just a stupid idea to me. The period setting and vibe is what makes these monsters so eerie, legendary, and timeless.
My fear is that these films will end up being cookie-cutter type films with no real imagination behind them — like most remakes of classic films!

Update: Well, that was fast. Deadline reports that the story from their sister site is bunk. Move along, nothing to see here. According to the team behind Universal's developing monster movie cinematic universe (sigh), the films will be so much more than just creature features. “This is not a heightened world. We’re exploring issues of family identity and questions of ‘where do I belong in the world?’ ” screenwriter Chris Morgan, who is teaming with Alex Kurtzman to oversee the brain trust responsible for these movies, told Variety. At any rate, that whole this-aint'-just-a-monster-movie spiel is possibly what convinced a major A-list star to jump aboard. THR reports Tom Cruise is in talks for "The Mummy." Seriously. There are little in the way of details about what the Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus," "Doctor Strange," "Passengers")-penned script will be about, but I'd wager Cruise's involvement will depend on who is directing.
