As you may have seen, a news story coming out of Chicago made the rounds across the internet this past weekend, claiming that 112 people had been murdered by a group of teens whose killing spree was inspired by The Purge: Anarchy (review).
It's precisely those kinds of stories that give horror movies a bad name, but thankfully, this one wasn't legit.
The website Cream Bmp Daily reported on the story Friday, which was packed with alleged quotes from both civilians and police officers.
The mass killing was described as a re-enactment of The Purge: Anarchy, taking place shortly after the movie hit theaters on Friday night. The site reported that no arrests had been made and that police would be closely monitoring social media sites, waiting for the teenage killers to brag about their crimes.
Fortunately, the obviously fake story was shortly thereafter debunked by The Epoch Times, who revealed...

"The Purge: Breakout" is an immersive escape-game experience based on the world of Universal Pictures' The Purge.
It's Purge Night, and your group is being held captive by a demented torturer... with only 30 minutes before the start of The Purge. Trapped in his house, groups must work together—solving a series of increasingly complicated mind-bending puzzles and clues—to escape captivity and survive The Purge. Based on popular escape room adventures taking the U.S. and Asia by storm, the experience is like a real life video game. Visitors will be completely immersed into a horror experience like no other.

We're seeing more and more creative marketing techniques these days, and to entice moviegoers to experience The Purge: Anarchy first-hand this summer, Universal and Blumhouse will be taking the special mobile attraction "The Purge: Breakout" to several cities across the country.
Per THR, the immersive experience will place people inside the annual Purge Night, 12 hours every year when all crime is legal. Groups of visitors will be held captive by a demented psychopath 30 minutes before the purge begins and must work together to solve a series of increasingly complicated, mind-bending puzzles to escape captivity.
"Our goal with 'The Purge: Breakout' is to bring the universe of The Purge films directly to the audience," Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum said. "This experience allows fans across the county the chance to immerse themselves in the intricate world that the series' writer-director, James DeMonaco, has so painstakingly crafted. We hope that they enjoy being scared out of their minds.

With a $90 million gross on just a $3 million budget, a sequel to James DeMonaco’s The Purge was always going to be inevitable. Now, one year later, we have The Purge: Anarchy. With DeMonaco back behind the camera and a fresh cast in front, can the film repeat the same success that its predecessor saw? Judging by this newly released trailer, yes, yes it can.
This time around, Frank Grillo will be our protagonist and like Ethan Hawke’s character from the last film, he will face a Purge. For those unfamiliar with the term, a Purge is a special night of the year where citizens can commit any crimes they want and get away with it. The catch is that for the other 364 days of the year they must live in peace and harmony.
Whereas the original took place mostly in a house, the sequel looks to take place mostly on the streets,...

Universal Pictures have unleashed all the necessary marketing materials from their press kit for upcoming James DeMonaco's 'The Purge: Anarchy'. A new teaser trailer, some official artwork and a trio of stills from the flick heading our way this June have all arrived. The new stills and accompanying teaser certainly gives us an insight into the project which appears to be bringing the action out onto the street this time around unlike 'The Purge' which felt more like a home invasion thriller than a high concept spin on lawless society. The follow up stars Zach Gilford ('The Last Stand'), Frank Grillo ('End of Watch'), Michael K. Williams ('RoboCop'), Carmen Ejogo ('Alex Cross'), Jasper Cole, Zoe Borde, Chad Morgan and Kiele Sanchez ('Lost'). Check out the new stuff below....

You excited for the sequel to The Purge? Well then, we can now exclusively confirm for you that the full title of the flick is The Purge: Anarchy, and also a trailer will be hitting This Week! Read on for details and screenshots!
A Dread Central reader by the name of The Polite Leader (a nod to the first film) wrote in with the news, the images you see below, and a description of what's in the trailer.
The trailer opens with a young couple heading home (looks to be Devil's Due's Zack Gilford and Kiele Sanchez). The young lady is anxious, wanting to get home as quickly as possible (and with good reason). Then - their car breaks down. "No, no! This can't be happening!" "No one's going to help us tonight."

At the tail end of last week, Purge 2 star Zach Gilford (Devil's Due) spilled some plot details for the upcoming sequel, which will expand on the clever concept of the budding franchise. Today we learn a bit about the character he'll be playing. Read on!
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Gilford revealed that a strange twist of fate resulted in his real-life wife, Kiele Sanchez, playing the role of his character's wife in the film.
"She went out for a role, but for whatever reason they thought she didn’t look old enough," he told the paper, "so they offered her another role that happens to be my wife. It’s super weird to be in scenes together. It took a while to get used to.”

In an interview with Fangoria, Zach Gilford (Devil's Due, "Friday Night Lights") broke the exciting news that the sequel will not take place inside of a house and will not feature any of the same characters from the first film.
"With this one," he says, "there’s none of the same characters, but it’s the same day of the year and it takes place in the city where there are no security systems and it’s just like a war zone where people are just trying to survive. So I thought it was pretty...
