Sideral, the Madrid-based integrated production-distribution-sales label, has acquired Spanish distribution rights to Enrique Buleo’s black comedy film “Bodegón con fantasmas” (“Still Life with Ghosts”), one of the six films playing at Málaga’s Wip España sidebar.
Buleo’s first feature, “Still Life with Ghosts” has been produced by Alejandra Mora at Valencia’s Quatre Films and Juan Cavestany’s Cuidado con el Perro, the production house behind Movistar Plus’ series “Sentimos las molestias” and feature “Un efecto óptico.”
“Still Life with Ghosts” narrates with absurdist humor and magical realism five different intertwined stories about ghosts and living inhabitants in a small town in Spain’s Castilla-La Mancha region. Malaga-based sales house Agencia Freak has picked up worldwide festival distribution rights to two new Spanish documentaries, “An Elephant on a Spider Web” by Cuban director Rolando Díaz, and Marcos Cabotá’s “Sonic Fantasy,” on legendary music engineer Bruce Swedien.
Both acquisitions were unveiled at the eve of the 2021 edition of the Spanish Screenings-Málaga de Cine, which runs October 20-22, and where Agencia Freak-handled Emma Tusell doc “Video Blues” is being shown to international buyers.
Produced by Alejandra Mora at Valencia-based company Quatre Films (“Tehran Blues”), “An Elephant on a Spider Web” follows a film director in his 70s who senses that sly death is approaching.
Since the helmer decides to make fun of life in what will be his last film, he will use a 109-year-old quixotic old woman, with a desire to die, and three young artists.
“Sonic Fantasy” revolves around five-time Grammy award winning sound engineer Bruce Swedien,...

Selected at TIFF’s Filmmaker Lab, Cannes’ Sources 2 program and Madrid’s Ecam Incubator, “Still Life with Ghosts” marks the first feature from Spain’s Enrique Buleo, director of shorts such as “Decorosa” and “Hell and Such,” which played Clermont-Ferrand and Palm Springs, Slamdance, Nashville and many other events, garnering praise and plaudits.
A five-part black comedy, “Still Life with Ghosts” is set in a Spanish village where ghosts and live people come to each other’s aid, trying to find a solution to the problems that are haunting them.
“Ghosts” is produced by Alejandra Mora at Valencia-based Quatre Films which co-produced Javier Tolentino’s “Blues for Tehran” alongside Luis Miñarro’s Eddie Saeta.
How would you introduce your debut to industry players who could be potentially interested?
I’d underscore the rural and hostile atmosphere that the film exudes, the everyday nature of its fantastic elements and its macabre...
