Three competing biopics about the infamous 1973 ‘Battle of the Sexes’ match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs are in production, as the struggle for equality on the court continues
The sight of Raymond Moore, then-director of the prestigious Indian Wells tennis tournament, arguing that female players should “go down every night on [their] knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born” must have been enough to enrage most people who care about modern tennis. But a couple of hours west along California’s Interstate 10, the Hollywood producers of three competing biopics about the infamous 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs will surely be spinning their rackets with glee.

It’s game, set, match for Raymond Moore: the tennis official has stepped down as Indian Wells chief executive officer and tournament director of the BNP Paribas Open after remarks he made about female players. The resignation announcement came Monday from tournament owner Larry Ellison, one day after Moore (pictured above) accused the women athletes of riding the “coattails” of their male counterparts. “In my next life, when I come back, I want to be someone in the Wta, because they ride on the coattails of the men,” Moore said on Sunday. “They don’t make any decisions and they are lucky.

Serena Williams wasn't going to let Raymond Moore get away with the sexist remarks he made before the BNP Paribas Open finals Sunday. The Indian Wells CEO participated in a media session before the matches commenced and said that female tennis players should "thank God" men exist in the sport or else they wouldn't have the opportunity to play. "No, I think the Wta [Women's Tennis Association]—you know, in my next life when I come back I want to be someone in the Wta (laughter) because they ride on the coattails of the men," he said. "They don't make any decisions and they are lucky. They are very, very lucky. If I was a lady player, I'd go down every night on my knees and...

"In my next life when I come back I want to be someone in the [Women's Tennis Association], because they ride on the coattails of the men," the former pro tennis player said. Every year, we here at Sound On Sight celebrate the month of October with 31 Days of Horror; and every year, I update the list of my favourite horror films ever made. Last year, I released a list that included 150 picks. This year, I’ll be upgrading the list, making minor alterations, changing the rankings, adding new entries, and possibly removing a few titles. I’ve also decided to publish each post backwards this time for one reason: the new additions appear lower on my list, whereas my top 50 haven’t changed much, except for maybe in ranking. I am including documentaries, short films and mini series, only as special mentions – along with a few features that can qualify as horror, but barely do.
****
Special Mention:
Häxan
Directed by Benjamin Christensen
Denmark / Sweden, 1922
Häxan (a.k.a The Witches or Witchcraft Through The Ages) is a 1922 silent documentary about the history of witchcraft,...

Throughout the month of October, Editor-in-Chief and resident Horror expert Ricky D, will be posting a list of his favorite Horror films of all time. The list will be posted in six parts. Click here to see every entry.
As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. It was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried and eventually gave up.
****
50: Thundercrack!
Directed by Curt McDowell
Written by George Kuchar
1975, USA
Thunderstruck! is by far the most obscure film you will find on this list. It is without a doubt one of the true landmarks of Underground cinema. With a screenplay by veteran underground film maker George Kuchar (story and characters by Mark Ellinger) and directed Curt McDowell (than student of Kuchar),
Thundercrack! is a work of a crazed genius.
