Brittany Murphy was coming apart at the seams in 2006, three years before her sudden death, according to her “Love and Other Disasters” director Alek Keshishian.
Keshishian, who recently helmed documentary “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me,” revealed that Murphy was “troubled” during the production of the rom-com film co-starring Matthew Rhys and Catherine Tate.
“Brittany was an amazing light,” Keshishian told The Independent. “But she had a lot of demons. I was protective of her.”
Keshishian continued, “I was making it in the city I loved, with an amazing crew and an amazing producer, but it was troubled, because I had a troubled actress in the lead.”
He added, “I considered shutting down the movie, but that would have put 70 crew members out of work. So we carried on…I think that affected me.”

Ask anyone and they’ll tell you about a celebrity death that affected them. One where they know the exact moment they were and how that demise triggered some type of ending in their own collective becoming. For me, it was “Clueless” star Brittany Murphy. I can’t say I adored Murphy’s films, but for a young girl from the suburbs there was something about Murphy that was understandable. I knew I’d never be Alicia Silverstone’s Cher, but everyone felt like Murphy’s Tai. Her death felt so shocking because of how normal it was: pneumonia. But, of course, that was just the surface of everything.
“What Happened, Brittany Murphy,” the new HBO Max docuseries, arrives during a recent trend of documentaries aimed at reconciling (and apologizing) for the way young women were used and abused in Hollywood. Just in the last two months, we’ve seen...

More than a decade after Brittany Murphy died, director Cynthia Hill wants to give the actor a chance to “be something other than her death.”
“We’re doing a lot of looking back to reevaluate missteps and to be able to talk about people like Britney Spears and Brittany Murphy, who have been victimized by Hollywood, by the gossip industry,” Hill tells Variety. “Having to look back at what our role is in all of that [is] giving these women an opportunity to reclaim their voices.”
Working with Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions, Hill spent the last year creating a two-part docuseries about the circumstances that led to Murphy’s death on Dec. 20, 2009, at age 32. “What Happened, Brittany Murphy?” bows Oct. 14 on HBO Max.

A new two-part HBO Max series on the Clueless actor’s shocking death at 32 in 2009 is less monument to her short life than exploitation of her death
It’s telling that What Happened, Brittany Murphy?, a new docuseries on the Clueless and Girl, Interrupted actor’s confounding death in December 2009, is bookended by two overwrought sleights of hand. The two-part HBO Max series begins with the frantic 911 call by her mother, Sharon Murphy, over a recreation of the Ems trip from Murphy’s house in Hollywood Hills to Cedars Sinai medical center, where she died from a combination of pneumonia, severe anemia and several prescription and over-the-counter medications at age 32. It ends with a hammy montage of fan videos made by internet detectives – straight-to-camera, brightly lit, skeptical recaps that often double as makeup tutorials – spliced with scenes from Murphy’s films, as if her expressive face is in conversation with their fascination.

Brittany Murphy was just 32 years old when she suddenly died in the Los Angeles home she shared with husband Simon Monjack. Since then, people have speculated about the cause of her death, ignoring the coroner's report which explicitly stated her death despite the coroner's report, which explicitly stated that her death was accidental, caused by pneumonia, anemia and multiple drug intoxication. Conspiracy theorists accuse Simon of isolating his wife from the world, while others point their finger at the toxic mold that allegedly infested their home on Rising Glen Road in Los Angeles. Now, 12 years later, documentarian Cynthia...

Lifetime aired its buzzed-about biopic on the late Brittany Murphy — aptly titled The Brittany Murphy Story — Saturday night. Controversy reached a fever pitch last week when Murphy’s father Angelo Bertolotti told Examiner he is “outraged” by the “hideous, unauthorized, and completely untrue” film. However, after watching the movie, he isn’t too far off-base.
The Brittany Murphy Story is bad, and that’s an understatement. The film is plagued by poor acting (yes, even for Lifetime), choppy time jumps, and tonal inconsistencies. If we’re to believe Lifetime, Murphy (played by Amanda Fuller) was a too-trusting, insecure victim to paparazzi and shady con-artists — namely, her husband Simon Monjack, who died five months after Murphy in the same room from the same cause. The film is more exploitative than exploratory. Is any of this true? We might never know, but fans certainly shouldn’t be happy about it.

It took Lifetime a surprisingly long time to get around to making a movie about the life of actress Brittany Murphy, who died in 2009. The movie will star Amanda Fuller ("Last Man Standing," "Cheap Thrills") as the "Clueless" star, with Sherilyn Fenn ("Twin Peaks," "Ray Donovan") appearing as Brittany's mom Sharon. Murphy was only 32 when she died from a reported cardiac arrest, and her husband Simon Monjack died several months later. However, Murphy's biological father Angelo Bertolotti wanted to have her death re-investigated; he purported Murphy and Monjack were poisoned, and tried unsuccessfully to prove it in court.

Friday marks the fourth anniversary of the death of actress Brittany Murphy.
The official cause of her death at age 32 was attributed to pneumonia, anemia and multiple drug intoxication -- the kinds of drugs used for treating a cold.
In an eerie twist of fate, five months after Murphy's death, her husband, Simon Monjack, died of similar causes. Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti is not satisfied with the investigation, taking matters into his own hands, including new toxicology tests that he claims show his daughter was poisoned.

The results are in from a second testing of Brittany Murphy’s hair samples and they too show that she had “abnormally high levels” of heavy metals, including Barium and Sulfur in her system.
Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia on Dec. 20, 2009 at the young age of 32, but her father didn’t believed that to be true. In November, Angelo Bertolotti received test results from The Carlson Company stating that his daughter had a large amount of metals in her system, leading him to believe she had been poisoned. On Dec. 18, two days before the four-year anniversary of her death, he received a second set of test results from another lab — stating the same thing.

Her father reportedly uncovered new evidence indicating his daughter was poisoned, but unfortunately there are no plans to reopen the investigation into Brittany Murphy's sudden passing in 2009.
Last week, the "Clueless" star's father Angelo Bertolotti told RadarOnline.com that he had his daughter's hair, blood and tissues tested for "heavy metals and toxins."
Carlson Company indicated that it found 10 heavy metals in abnormally high quantities, but the La County Coroner's Office stated that the case was officially closed and will remain closed at this time.
Chief Coroner Investigator and Operators Craig Harvey told The Huffington Post, "The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner has no plans to reopen our inquiry into the deaths. Four years after her death Brittany Murphy’s father is still not convinced of the ruling that his daughter died from pneumonia and anemia. And it appears that maybe he was correct. Samples of the Clueless star’s hair have suggested poison revealing high levels of heavy metals. Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, passed away a short time later exhibiting the same symptoms.

New evidence presented by the father of the late star suggesting that Murphy was murdered has been questioned by a leading toxicologist
A prominent Us toxicologist has cast doubt on a lab report suggesting the former Hollywood star Brittany Murphy was poisoned.
In comments first reported by The Wrap, Bruce Goldberger said traces of heavy metals found in a sample of the late actor's hair could be explained by hair treatments. He also cast doubt on the legitimacy of a claim by an organisation earlier this week that Murphy was "poisoned by a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent".
Goldberger, who is director of forensic medicine at the University of Florida and president of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology, spoke out after Murphy's father Angelo Bertolotti cited lab results from the internet-based Carlson Company in an apparently successful bid for the Los Angeles county coroner's office to re-evaluate Murphy's death.

A little less than four years ago, Brittany Murphy died, seemingly out of nowhere. Given her very young age (32), rumors quickly raged that drugs or bad decisions may have been involved, but after a thorough medical examination and toxicology tests, the coroner ruled the actress died from a combination of pneumonia, anemia and several over-the-counter drugs she may have been using to try and improve her health. So, case closed, right? Wrong, apparently. Her husband Simon Monjack, 40, bizarrely followed her into the afterlife just a few months afterwards from the same combination of pneumonia and anemia, and now, thanks to some new tests, Murphy.s dad is convinced there may have been something far seedier than bad luck in play.
