George Lucas may have had a wider saga planned out in his head, but he couldn't have predicted just how much hunger there would be for more space adventures in the wake of Star Wars. But as audiences flocked to watch and rewatch the film through the summer of 1977, Lucas was already putting the groundwork in place for a sequel, with its title, The Empire Strikes Back, firmly in place by November that year.

Labyrinth fans: do you ever sit around and wonder what happened to the actor who played Toby Williams, the infant brother of Jennifer Connelly’s Sarah who is kidnapped by David Bowie’s Jareth, the Goblin King? The end of the film shows little Toby safe and snug in his bed, but what did the child actor do when he grew up? The answer can be found in this trailer for the live-action puppet short film Lessons Learned. Actor and puppet maker Toby Froud is the son of Brian Froud and Wendy Midener — two of the renowned artists who worked on the Jim Henson-directed film and created some of its memorable characters (the “junk lady,” for starters). It turns out that young Toby was bitten by the puppeteering bug and grew up to attend the Muppet...

Just over a month ago, artists Brian and Wendy Froud confirmed that Dark Crystal sequel The Power Of The Dark Crystal was still alive and kicking. Despite having been in production for most of the noughties, this new decade brings fresh optimism for the project. Not only have The Jim Henson Company finally recruited directors for the sequel – in the form of Peter and Michael Spierig – but they’re planning on jumping on the 3D bandwagon as well. The original flick was helmed by Jim Henson and was released in...

It has been nearly two decades, but a Dark Crystal sequel is still in the works. Designers Brian and Wendy Froud -- responsible for creating the sets and some of the puppets that both enthralled and terrified us as children -- have revealed that the fantasy follow-up is still a go. The duo has been talking with the director, adding input to the script and have begun the process of creating designs for the film. You can check out a video interview with the Frouds after the jump.
Some have wondered if there's still a point to doing puppet films in 2010, an age where everything is about CGI and hyperreality. Wouldn't a Dark Crystal sequel be better with a gaggle of computer-generated characters and backgrounds? Not according to director Genndy Tartakovsky, who agreed to helm the project on the condition that "the film would utilize live-action puppets as well as computer animation.

Fans of creepy-cool puppet flick The Dark Crystal rejoice! Talk of sequel The Power Of The Dark Crystal has been circulating for some time now, but we’ve not heard a thing for a couple of years. According to artists/designers Brian and Wendy Froud, though, the project is alive and well, albeit taking its time to come to fruition. While out promoting their new fortune-telling card set, The Heart Of Faerie Oracle, the husband-wife team spoke a little bit about the sequel. They were both involved with the first Dark Crystal as...

In case you were unaware, Brian & Wendy Froud are the duo responsible for much of the intricate and spectacular work in the art department on the props, sets and creature design on cult classics like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. A sequel to the former, titled The Power of the Dark Crystal has been rumored / gestating for quite some time, but the last we heard back in August, was pretty much the same news we've been hearing for awhile with no real progression. Leicester Square TV (via SlashFilm) just recently caught up with the Frouds, where they offer at least a tiny bit of hope for the sequel, which they say is still on track. Though they don't really reveal too much more info about The Power of the Dark Crystal than we've heard previously, their involvement is integral to the success off a sequel since their work is a...

The long, long wait for a sequel to The Dark Crystal has left me feeling doubtful about whether or not we'll ever get to see the film at all. Consider me heartened, then, to report that Brian and Wendy Froud seem quite certain the film is on the way. The Frouds are the designers of the sets, props and various puppet creatures that inhabit the world of The Dark Crystal, as well as the other Henson fantasy-world seen in Labyrinth. Interviewed this weekend at a signing of their new fortune-telling card set, The Heart of Faerie Oracle, they revealed that the next Dark Crystal movie is very much still on, that they have done "some designs" for it, have been "talking to the director" and have "been involved with the script". All good, I believe. These guys are any future film's strongest link to the first, and it can only...

To this day I get a huge grin on my face whenever I even Think about the original “The Dark Crystal” movie. You wanna know if someone is cool? Do a quick Chamberlain imitation by going “mmmMMMMMmmmmm….” and see if they get the reference. If they do… they are Cool. If they don’t, spit in their faces (an exception can be made for meeting your girlfriend’s parents for the first time).
For a few years now there has been talk about a sequel to the film. Just last August Henson Company CEO Brian Henson (son of the late Him Henson) emphatically said that “The Power of the Dark Crystal” was “ready to go“ and had a "very strong script". However, there hasn't been much more than silence since that time... until now.
