It’s Thanksgiving weekend and two new wide releases are opening on Wednesday, “Wish” and “Napoleon,” while “Saltburn” expands wide after a limited debut. And moviegoers still have all of those movies from this past weekend as an option, too. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Disney, the studio that’s had the most success on the extended holiday weekend, will release its latest animated film, “Wish,” on November 22. Disney’s history having huge family hits over Thanksgiving week is somewhat legendary with the studio holding more than 12 of the Top 20 Thanksgiving openings under its belt. Thanksgiving being such a big moviegoing draw is helped by people being out en masse for Black Friday shopping, making that a busy moviegoing day as well.

Of all the catchy songs from Disney's movies, the one that is most linked to the company is probably "When You Wish Upon A Star" from "Pinocchio." Walking down Main Street at Magic Kingdom or Disneyland? You'll hear it pumped through the loudspeakers. If you listen to any compilation of their songs, it'll be right on top of the playlist. Heck, it's the song that plays during the Walt Disney logo!
That song in particular seems to sum up all the hopeful nostalgia that the House of Mouse traffics in. So when they announced a surprise original movie at the end of tonight's Disney Studios panel at D23, of course, it had to be about wishing upon a star.
The film is called "Wish," and will be directed by Chris Buck ("Frozen") and Fawn Veerasunthorn, a Disney animation vet who worked on "Zootopia," "Raya and the Dragon," and "Moana," to name a few titles.

As part of the D23 Expo, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced their 2023 feature, one that is meant to draw from the rich history of the studio’s 100 years – “Wish.” Directed by “Frozen” filmmaker Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, the musical is set in a mythical fairy tale kingdom called Rosas, where a young woman named Asha (voiced by recent Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose) makes a wish to save her land from an unspeakable evil. The story is inspired by the iconic wishing star from the Disney logo.
Buck and Veerasunthorn were on hand at D23 on Friday to explain the basic premise of “Wish,” which has all the hallmarks of a Disney fairytale – a selfless hero, a terrifying villain and a talking goat (voiced by Disney good luck charm Alan Tudyk). But what sets the movie apart is its look.

For decades, wishes have been an important part of Disney history, as seen in songs like “When You Wish Upon a Star” to “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes.” Disney’s upcoming movie, aptly titled “Wish,” is taking that concept to the next level, the company announced at the D23 Expo on Friday.
The new, animated film takes place in Rosas, the kingdom of wishes, it was announced at the D23 Expo on Friday. The movie focuses on the power of wishes, and it blends the classic watercolor-esque Disney animation style with a newer, CGI look. Ariana DeBose will play Asha, the 17-year-old heroine and protagonist of “Wish.” Jennifer Lee wrote the film, with Chris Buck, Fawn Veerashunthorn directing.
DeBose treated the D23 audience to a live performance of “More for Us,” one of the songs from “Wish.” The movie will hit theaters in November 2023, in honor of Disney’s 100th anniversary.

Disney Animation revealed Frozen favorites Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are teaming to write the feature Wish, which will tell how the wishing star that so many Disney characters have wished upon came to be. West Side Story Oscar winner Ariana DeBose will voice star in the feature, which is slated for 2023 and will be a watercolor style of animation blended with CG.
“How did the wishing start?” Lee asked at D23 Friday, referencing all the wishing that happens in Disney animated movies.
Wish centers on Asha (DeBose), a 17-year-old who sees a darkness in her kingdom that no one else does, so in a moment of desperation, she makes a passioned plea to the stars. The production pace of network TV is not for the faint of heart. With merely a week — sometimes even less — to produce an hourlong episode of television, there’s even more pressure to make sure the usual flurry of moving parts comes together in a safe and coherent way.
Now, imagine being the people in charge of a sequence where trained performers dangle out of the back of a moving helicopter — that has to be done quickly, safely, and convincingly, too. For stunt coordinators like Peewee Piemonte and Julie Michaels of the CBS show “Seal Team,” that’s the part of the job they live for. The penultimate episode of the show’s second season featured a Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction (Spie) maneuver, with a half-dozen team members connected to a rope rig, hanging over the valley below.

A version of this story about Peewee Piemonte and Julie Michaels first appeared in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
It took two stunt coordinators to execute one of the most daring maneuvers this season on the CBS military drama “Seal Team.” To stage a Spie Rig, or a “special patrol insertion/extraction,” in which six soldiers were strapped to a Spie rope dangling from a helicopter and pulled off a mountain ridge, the show needed one coordinator in the air and another on the ground with the guys. Communication between the two would be key to keep things safe.
Thankfully, Julie Michaels and Peewee Piemonte are in perfect sync. That’s because they’ve been married for 25 years and have been working together “hot and heavy” since 1998. But for the first time this year, they’ve been Emmy-nominated jointly for their stunt work on “Seal Team,...

The Emmy nominees in the drama/limited series/TV movie stunt coordination category had challenges ranging from creating epic battles and burning a city (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) to flying stunt performers more than 700 feet off the ground (CBS’ “Seal Team”). Every stunt comes with risks requiring precision, experience and a lot of trust — and not only between the stunt performers and coordinators. The entire production team puts its faith in stunt coordinators who must work safely, efficiently, and in a budget-conscientious manner — all while turning in work that inspires heart-stopping emotion. What is most important to these coordinators is safety; they take great pride in what they can pull off for the camera in scenarios allowing the action to jump off the page — and plenty of helicopters.

The fourth and final episode of “The Voice” devoted to the make-or-break battle round shortchanged viewers by only showing three of the six duets in full. While Monday’s show had run for two hours, the March 27 episode was only an hour long. That meant that we only saw three of the six battles in full.
As with the other nights, the four coaches — Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — paired up artists on their teams to do a duet. The winner of each of these battles goes through to the knockout round. Each coach can steal two of the 18 losers from the battles overseen by the other coaches. The coaches were offered advise during rehearsals by four hit-makers: Clarkson had Hailee Steinfeld, by her side, Keys was counseled by Shawn Mendes, Levine turned to Julie Michaels, and Shelton brought in Trace Adkins.

Season 14 of “The Voice” aired the third of four episodes devoted to the battle round of the competition on March 26. With the first two episodes last week having been dominated by artists from teams coached by Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys, this installment was focused primarily on those mentored by Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
At this stage, each coach pits pairs of artists against each other and has them sing the same song for survival. After deciding which contender in each battle to take to the knockout round, the other coaches can steal the loser for their teams (save for Levine who has used his two steals already). At rehearsals, the coaches had fellow artists on hand to offer advice: Clarkson turned to Hailee Steinfeld, Keys was counseled by Shawn Mendes, Levine had Julie Michaels by his side, and Shelton brought in Trace Adkins.

Adam Levine has been a coach on every season of “The Voice” and has mentored three of the first 13 winners of this reality competition series. The most recent of these was in season 9 when he took Jordan Smith to the winner’s circle (his others wins were in season 1 with Javier Colon and season 5 with Tessanne Chin). He came tantalizing close to tasting victory last fall but his artist, Addison Agen, had to settle for second place. Levine’s rival, Blake Shelton, got win #6 as Chloe Kohanski claimed victory.
Levine is looking for revenge on Shelton this season and has assembled a strong team of 12 artists to take into battle. We have compiled power rankings of the 12 members of Team Adam Levine. This listing from best to worst is based on their performances in the blind auditions as well as the resulting sales of their tracks on iTunes and the votes of viewers like you.

Adam Levine has won three of his 13 seasons as a coach on “The Voice.” He propelled Javier Colon to victory in the first season and then did so again with Tessanne Chin in season 5. However, his last win was back in season 9 when Jordan Smith took the title. Levine’s long-time rival, Blake Shelton, has coached six winners, including reigning champ Chloe Kohanski.
Levine, who mentored the season 13 runner-up Addison Agen, has a chance to exact his revenge on Shelton this season. The first step on the road to victory is the battle rounds, which begin on March 19. He must decide which six of his 12 artists to take through to the next round, the knockouts. To help Levine make these tough choices, he has brought in country music star Julie Michaels as an advisor.
We have done some digging and discovered the match-ups of the 12 artists on Team Adam Levine.

Singer-songwriter Andra Day announced the four major categories -- Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year -- on Tuesday's CBS This Morning.
As far as snubs go, Ed Sheeran was only nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for his track, "Shape of You," to the shock of many of his fans. Lady Gaga and Kesha also received minimal nominations, despite the popularity of their albums.
However, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar earned quite a few Grammy nods, as well as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" song that features Justin Bieber.
