A 3-year-old girl died on Saturday after being put under anesthesia at a California dentist's office for "normal dental work," according to her father Homam Rady. Marvelena Rady of Brentwood was taken to Dentabliss in nearby San Ramon early Saturday morning around 7:00 a.m. for the procedure, where two dentists - one a licensed anesthesiologist - administered the drug and treated the toddler's teeth. "We got an assessment done beforehand and they said there were multiple teeth to be worked on and that's why we went [with] anesthesia," Homam explains. "The procedure was just a matter of dealing with cavities,...

When I met Greg Ng at SXSW this spring, he had just finished up a rousing fast-paced primer on how he grew his audience for his exceptionally niche web series FreezerBurns. The 10-minute overview was met with laughs from the bleary eyed conference crowd, and it was clear that this guy really cared about frozen food. Suddenly there was someone brave enough to be our royal taster of the freezer aisle, guiding us away from lazy dinner fail. (Admit it, we all eat frozen meals.) Ng was a one-man band, able to lock down his own sponsor deals—by choice, never from the frozen food makers—turning a webcam hobby into something more. It caught the eye of Next New Networks, who have a knack for bringing in talented web show personalities into its growing stable of content verticals like food (Hungry Nation), Diy Fashion (Threadbanger), filmmaking (Indy Mogul) and...

In the wide world of web series, God once played a familiar character. The likeness, embodiment, or idea of Him starred in or provided the format for at least a few of online video’s earliest successes. Mr. Deity depicted Him as a self-conscious Creator riddled with neuroses. God, Inc. showed us He’s the head honcho at a white collar, corporate HQ, and that heaven is more like a micro-cap regional papter and office supply distributor than a pearly-gated paradise, place on Earth, or half-pipe. Despite online video auteurs’ early devotion to God, He’s recently lost some screen time in favor of His Son and fallen Angels. In Dan McNamara’s The Bear, the Cloud, and God, however, the Holy Father is born again and back with a fire and brimstone, supremely awesome vengeance. In each installment of the uber-short-form web series, the cuddly, crudely animated Bear makes...

I have to admit, when I watched the first episode of Amazing the Lion, the new original animated series on Independent Comedy Network, I just didn't get it. The Wtf factor was overwhelming. I thought it was being weird for the sake of being weird, as if creator Dan McNamara saw David Firth's Salad Fingers and thought all it took to make a cult hit was just being odd and random. Nevertheless I decided to stick it out and watch the remaining episodes. And boy am I glad that I did. This show is friggin' brilliant. Amazing the Lion came to us through our tips line with the following description: "Amazing the Lion is an animated series about a stuffed lion who lives in the forest on the side of the long island expressway. Amazing the Lion goes on adventures with his forest friends, Possum and Barry the Panda,...
