In July, you may recall an event that occurred in Hwange National Park, where the endangered Cecil the Lion was tragically killed at the hands of a dentist/hunter who, inexplicably, had no knowledge that the black-maned beast was something of a local icon. It was a story that occupied headlines for weeks, and a vitriolic response rang out across the four corners of the Internet.
Fast forward to today and The Wrap reports that Black Mass director Scott Cooper is in negotiations to helm a feature film that bears a striking resemblance to that tragic tale. It’s called American Wolf, and it even takes cues from a real-life event of its own, following “a hunter in Yellowstone National Park who accidentally kills an endangered American wolf, and the unlikely friendship that forms between him and the wildlife researcher who works with wolves in the park.”

Despite the dystopian-sounding codename, she quickly became a star in the eyes of the scientists and an animal-loving public, and the outcry after her accidental shooting was so big, she received an obituary in The New York Times.

Leonardo DiCaprio is to produce American Wolf.
The film will be an adaptation of Nate Blakeslee's book about O-Six, the famous female leader of a wolfpack at Yellowstone National Park.
In 2010, there was an outcry as she was legally shot by a hunter, which led many to campaign for new hunting regulations.
The book has yet to be completed, but the Wolf of Wall Street star has already signed on to produce the film version.
DiCaprio will produce alongside Kevin McCormick (Gangster Squad), but while publishing rights were recently bought for a seven-figure sum by Crown in the Us and Knopf in Canada, no further details of the project have been announced.
DiCaprio has recently been appointed Messenger of Peace for the United Nations.
It was also revealed that he will star alongside Brad Pitt and Robert De Niro in a short film by Martin Scorsese.

A little over a year ago it was announced that Casey Affleck would star in Boston Strangler for Warner Bros., but since then there hasn’t been a lot of progress made on the project. Now, however, it looks like things are finally starting to move on this one as today we’re hearing that Mark Romanek is in talks with the studio to direct the film.
Romanek, best known for One Hour Photo and Never Let Me Go, was in the news last year when he exited Disney’s live-action Cinderella because the version he was working on was too dark for the mouse house. While his style may not have been the best fit for a Disney fairy-tale, it could be perfect for Boston Strangler.
For those who aren’t familiar, the film will tell the true story of a series of murders that took place in Boston in the 1960s.

It began with reports that a young woman named Shannan Gilbert was seen running through the upscale waterfront town of Oak Beach,...

Warner Bros. has hired Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum to direct Ghostman, an adaptation of Roger Hobbs recent novel of the same name. The work was published earlier this year.
The plot of book goes as follows:
When a casino robbery in Atlantic City goes horribly awry the man who orchestrated it is obliged to call in a favor from “Jack.” Only thirty or so people are sure this man exists, some believe he’s dead, and none know anything at all about his true identity. Those are closely guarded trade secrets, to say the least, for an exceptionally trained, experienced, and talented criminal. But as he struggles to clean up the mess left in the wake of the bungled Atlantic City heist, he finds himself increasingly more visible as he’s pursued simultaneously by the FBI and other interested, if mysteriously elusive, parties–a situation that requires every gram of his skill,...

Warner Bros. Pictures and Appian Way have acquired Jason Hall's script pitch "Rasputin". The project is being developed for Leonardo DiCaprio to play the mad monk.
If it goes forward, DiCaprio would star as the Russian mystic who became an advisor to the Imperial family the Romanovs in the early 20th century.
Rasputin's influence, partly due to his ability to treat the hemophilia of Tsar Nicholas II's son, grew to the point that rivals tried several times to kill him (and succeeded in 1916).
Hall's new take on the man adds more dimensions than previously seen in films featuring the character. This includes how the death of his brother affected him, and the kindness of which he was capable.
Kevin McCormick, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Peter Morgan will produce.
